इस पाठ में दो रचनाएँ हैं। रवींद्र केलेकर की ‘पतझर में टूटी पत्तियाँ’ के अंतर्गत दो प्रसंग हैं — ‘गिन्नी का सोना’ में बताया गया है कि शुद्ध सोने में थोड़ा ताँबा मिलाकर गहना मज़बूत बनाया जाता है, इसी प्रकार आदर्शों में व्यावहारिकता का थोड़ा मेल लाभदायक है, पर केवल व्यावहारिकता आदर्शों को नष्ट कर देती है। ‘झेन की देन’ में जापानी ‘टी-सेरेमनी’ के माध्यम से बताया गया है कि वर्तमान क्षण में जीना और मन को शांत रखना ही सच्ची शांति है। हबीब तनवीर का एकांकी ‘कारतूस’ स्वाधीनता-संग्राम के वीर वज़ीर अली पर आधारित है, जो अंग्रेज़ों के लिए एक रहस्यमय आतंक बन गया था; वह साहस और चतुराई से कर्नल के खेमे में पहुँचकर कारतूस ले जाता है, जिससे उसकी निर्भीकता और देशभक्ति प्रकट होती है। दोनों रचनाएँ क्रमशः जीवन-दर्शन और वीरता-देशभक्ति का संदेश देती हैं।
