छायावाद के प्रमुख कवि जयशंकर प्रसाद की यह कविता ‘आत्मकथ्य’ एक विनम्र आत्म-स्वीकृति है। मित्रों के आग्रह पर कवि अपनी आत्मकथा लिखने का अनुरोध पाते हैं, पर वे विनयपूर्वक कहते हैं कि उनका जीवन कोई विशेष या गौरवपूर्ण गाथा नहीं है जिसे सबके सामने रखा जाए। उनके जीवन में दुर्बलताएँ और पीड़ाएँ हैं जिन्हें वे प्रकट नहीं करना चाहते। वे अपनी मधुर स्मृतियों और कोमल अनुभूतियों को मन में ही सँजोए रखना चाहते हैं और मानते हैं कि अभी आत्मकथा कहने का समय नहीं आया। कविता छायावादी कोमलता, आत्म-विश्लेषण और विनम्रता से भरी है, और कवि की सरलता तथा भावों की गहराई को व्यक्त करती है।
