यह "साथ-साथ पढ़ें" प्रेरक जीवनी परमवीर चक्र विजेता फ्लाइंग ऑफिसर निर्मल जीत सिंह सेखों के अद्वितीय साहस और बलिदान की गाथा है। 17 जुलाई 1945 को पंजाब के लुधियाना के निकट जन्मे सेखों बचपन से ही वायुयानों के प्रति आकर्षित थे और अपने वायुसेना-अधिकारी पिता से प्रभावित थे। मैट्रिक प्रथम श्रेणी से उत्तीर्ण कर, इंजीनियरिंग की पढ़ाई बीच में छोड़कर उन्होंने 4 जून 1967 को भारतीय वायुसेना में नियुक्ति पाई और छोटे लड़ाकू विमान "नैट" उड़ाने में सिद्धहस्त हो गए। अपने मैत्रीपूर्ण स्वभाव के कारण सभी उन्हें प्यार से "भाई" कहते थे। 1971 के भारत-पाक युद्ध में वे श्रीनगर की वायु-सुरक्षा में तैनात थे। 14 दिसंबर 1971 को जब पाकिस्तानी वायुसेना के छह सेबर जेट फाइटरों ने श्रीनगर हवाई क्षेत्र पर हमला किया, तब सेखों अपनी जान की परवाह किए बिना अकेले नैट विमान लेकर उड़ पड़े। विषम परिस्थिति में भी उन्होंने एक विमान मार गिराया और दूसरे में आग लगा दी, फिर चार शत्रु-विमानों से अकेले लड़ते हुए वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए। मात्र 26 वर्ष की आयु में मातृभूमि की रक्षा करते हुए बलिदान देने वाले सेखों भारतीय वायुसेना के एकमात्र परमवीर चक्र विजेता हैं।
