The story in short

यह पाठ दिनचर्या (दैनिक कार्यक्रम) तथा समय बताने की संस्कृत-शैली पर केन्द्रित है। सन्दीप तथा खुशी नामक दो बालक अपनी दिनचर्या उत्तमपुरुष-क्रियाओं में वर्णन करते हैं — "अहं प्रातः पञ्चवादने उत्तिष्ठामि", "मुखप्रक्षालनं दन्तधावनं च करोमि", "योगासनं करोमि", "स्वाध्यायं करोमि", "विद्यालयं गच्छामि" आदि। पाठ का मुख्य व्याकरण-बिन्दु संस्कृत में समय कहना है — पादोन (पौने), सपाद (सवा), सार्ध (साढ़े) तथा -वादनम् (बजे) के प्रयोग से समय बोलना — जैसे सपाद-पञ्चवादनम् (५:१५), सार्ध-षड्वादनम् (६:३०), पादोन-सप्तवादनम् (६:४५)। पाठ शिष्टाचार के पदों (गुरुवन्दनम्, मातृप्रेम, अतिथिसत्कारः, परोपकारः, अहिंसा, सत्यकथनम् आदि) का भी अभ्यास कराता है। योग्यता-विस्तार में भारतीय ज्ञान-परम्परा में समय तथा घटी-यन्त्रों का परिचय है — कोणार्क सूर्यमन्दिर के चक्र तथा जयपुर-दिल्ली के जन्तर-मन्तर की चर्चा है। प्रातःस्मरण के सुन्दर श्लोक भी दिए गए हैं।
