XLRI BM and HRM Through XAT 2027: 600 Seats, Timeline, Fees, Selection

Checked 30 September 2026. Medium. The XLRI admission page and the XAT registration page were current on 30 September 2026. The interview and offer timeline is XLRI's plan and may move; placement figures change when the next batch report is published.

For the batch starting in June 2027, XLRI offers 600 seats across PGDM (Business Management) and PGDM (Human Resource Management) together, and 120 in its PGDM (General Management) programme. Every Indian candidate for BM and HRM applies through XAT 2027, whose registration closes on 6 December 2026. XLRI publishes its intake, its timeline and its application fees, and it describes in a few sentences what it weighs. It does not publish cut-offs, composite-score weights or a split of the 600 seats between programmes or campuses. This guide sets out what XLRI has published, where its documents disagree, and what its last two batches were placed at. ProSyllabus is an independent study site. It is not part of XLRI Jamshedpur, which conducts XAT for the Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI), nor of any institute that uses XAT scores. Every rule here is quoted or summarised from xatonline.in, xlri.ac.in or the institute's own admission page, and they decide every case.

Missed CAT? XAT is still open

CAT 2026 registration closed on 22 September 2026 at 5 PM, after an extension announced in the IIMs' media release of 15 September 2026, and CAT itself is on 29 November 2026. XAT 2027 registration opened on 15 July 2026 and stays open to 6 December 2026, for an exam on 3 January 2027. For a candidate who did not register for CAT, XAT is the national MBA entrance still taking applications this autumn. XLRI takes Indian candidates for BM and HRM through XAT only.

Applying: XAT is not the XLRI application

Registering for XAT does not by itself put you in XLRI's selection. The XAT FAQ says XLRI programmes need to be applied for separately, and in practice that means ticking each XLRI programme you want inside the XAT form, at ₹200 a programme. Choosing PGDM (BM) puts you in consideration for both the Jamshedpur and the Delhi-NCR campuses with no extra fee. You may apply for more than one programme, may be called to more than one interview or group discussion, and XLRI says the criteria can differ by programme.

The form cannot be edited once it is submitted with payment, and email and mobile cannot be changed after registration. The XAT home page also states that XLRI admissions involve no management or NRI quota.

XAT and XLRI application fee builder

Pick your route and the XLRI programmes you will tick in the XAT form. The figures are the ones on the XAT 2027 registration page.

XAT 2027 registration page: ₹2,300 for XAT, ₹200 more for each XLRI programme, ₹2,600 for an Indian candidate applying to PGDM (GM) through GMAT or GRE, ₹5,000 for NRI, Foreign, PIO and OCI candidates through GMAT. The 2026 bulletin and prospectus still linked on the site print ₹2,200 and ₹2,500; those are last year's figures. The 2026 bulletin says all XAT and XLRI payments are non-refundable. Other institutes charge their own application fee.

RouteWho uses itFee
XAT only, no XLRI programmeCandidates applying to other XAT institutes₹2,300
XAT + PGDM (BM)Indian candidates for BM (both campuses)₹2,500
XAT + PGDM (BM) + PGDM (HRM)Indian candidates for both (our example)₹2,700
XAT + BM + HRM + GMCandidates with 3+ years of work experience applying to all three₹2,900
GMAT or GRE, PGDM (GM)Indian candidates for GM through GMAT or GRE₹2,600
GMAT, one or more programmesNRI, Foreign, PIO and OCI candidates₹5,000

The fee figures come from the XAT 2027 registration page. The XAT bulletin and the XLRI prospectus still linked from the two sites are the 2026 editions and print ₹2,200 for XAT and ₹2,500 for GM through GMAT or GRE; the 2027 registration page supersedes them. The 2026 bulletin says XAT and XLRI payments are non-refundable.

On the final-year date, the XAT FAQ contradicts itself: its eligibility section says final exams must be over by 12 June 2027 and its XLRI section says 11 June 2027. The safe course is the earlier date. Other institutes set their own dates.

How XLRI selects: what it says, and where its documents differ

The XLRI admission page for the 2027 cycle says that when preparing the interview shortlist, "in addition to XAT performance, we may factor in academic background and the relevant work experience", and that the final list considers performance in the personal interview (and/or group discussion) along with XAT performance, relevant work experience, academic background and extracurricular activities. GK marks, which do not count towards any other institute's use of XAT, are used by XLRI in its final selection.

The 2026 e-prospectus, written for the previous cycle, says two different things. Its selection-criteria page carries the same "may factor in" paragraph as the 2027 admission page, but its general-information box says: "Shortlist of candidates for the interview in BM & HRM programmes is based only on XAT Scores". Both cannot describe the same shortlist. For 2027, go by the admission page: XAT is the main shortlisting input, and academics and work experience may be added.

Coaching sites circulate percentage weights for XLRI's final selection, and they do not agree with each other. One split in circulation gives XAT 60%, the interview and group discussion 25% and other factors 15%; another gives XAT 60%, interview and group discussion 35% and academics with work experience 5%. XLRI publishes neither, we could not trace either to an XLRI document, and we do not rely on them. The cut-offs guide in this series covers the reported cut-off tables in the same way.

What the last two batches were placed at

XLRI publishes its final placement figures for BM and HRM together, not separately by programme. The latest report is for the batch of 2024-26. The report for 2023-25 has been audited by B2K Analytics under the IPRS 2.2 standard.

Top 10% average, batch 2024-26₹49.2 LPA

XLRI final placement reports, BM and HRM combined. The highest international offer, ₹1.10 crore in both batches, is left off the chart so the scale stays readable.

Two cautions on reading these. The 2023-25 report's highlights are headed "Final Placements 2024", although that batch graduated in 2025; we cite by batch to avoid the confusion. And both reports cover BM and HRM together, so they do not tell you how either programme placed on its own. XLRI's tuition fee for the programme is not on the admission page or the prospectus we read, so we have not printed one.

What this means for an applicant

Our reading of XLRI's documents, not XLRI advice. Tick every XLRI programme you would accept when you fill the XAT form; each costs ₹200 and cannot be added after payment. Take GK seriously if XLRI is on your list, since it is used only there, and only at the final stage. Keep your academic record and work-experience details accurate and consistent in the form, because XLRI says it may use them at the shortlist. And plan around April 2027 for offers, with a mid-June start.

Practise it, don't just read it

XLRI's shortlist starts from your XAT performance. Reading comprehension is the largest single question type in VA&LR in every official paper.

One XAT quiz is live on ProSyllabus today: Reading Comprehension Inference Questions Fundamentals, 10 questions. Its questions carry four options where the real XAT paper has five, so treat it as reading practice, not as a mock of the 95-question paper.

How many seats does XLRI have for BM and HRM?

600 seats across PGDM (BM) and PGDM (HRM) together, according to the XLRI admission page. XLRI does not publish a split by programme or campus. PGDM (GMP) has 120 seats.

What is the last date to apply for XLRI through XAT 2027?

6 December 2026, when XAT registration closes. XLRI programmes are selected inside the XAT form.

What is the XAT 2027 application fee?

₹2,300, plus ₹200 for each XLRI programme you apply to. Indian candidates applying to PGDM (GM) through GMAT or GRE pay ₹2,600, and NRI, Foreign, PIO and OCI candidates applying through GMAT pay ₹5,000.
