Checked 26 September 2026. From SSC notices of 21.05.2026 (CGLE 2026), 23.06.2026 (re-opening), 12.09.2026 (Tier-I schedule), 21.09.2026 (city and admit card) and the tentative vacancies of 24.09.2026. Tier-II is “December, 2026 (tentative)” in the notice; no Tier-II schedule notice yet.
The Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026 is now in its exam month. SSC’s notice of 12 September fixed Tier-I from 30 September to 30 October 2026 — a computer-based test spread over a whole month, so every candidate gets one date inside that window. City intimation slips went live on 21 September, and admit cards open two or three days before each candidate’s date. Behind the dates, 2026 is a different exam from 2025 in several ways: the Level-8 Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer posts are back with a third paper, every section now has its own timer, and SSC’s latest vacancy list is 10,731, not the 12,256 many pages still quote.
SSC notices of 21.05.2026, 23.06.2026, 12.09.2026 and 24.09.2026.
Where other pages get this wrong
SSC’s tentative vacancy list of 24.09.2026 has 10,731 vacancies; 12,256 was the approximate figure in the May notice.
Commonly published instead: “SSC CGL 2026: 12,256 vacancies” as the current number.
CGLE 2026 notice para 3.1 (“approx. 12,256”); SSC tentative vacancies as on 24.09.2026, total row 10,731.

SSC notices. The notice first said applications would close on 22.06.2026 and Tier-I would run in “August–September, 2026”; both moved. SSC’s helpline for application problems was 1800 309 3063.
When will my SSC CGL 2026 admit card open?
Enter the Tier-I date shown in your city intimation slip (between 30 September and 30 October 2026).
SSC notice of 21.09.2026: the admission certificate “will tentatively be available for download prior to two/three (02/03) days of respective date of examination”, through the candidate login on ssc.gov.in. Tier-I window 30.09.2026 – 30.10.2026 (notice of 12.09.2026). Date arithmetic is ours.
Two practical points from the 21 September notice. First, both the city and the admit card come only through the candidate login on ssc.gov.in — nothing is posted. Second, candidates using their own scribe had to map the scribe’s fresh, Aadhaar-linked registration by 24 September; scribe registrations made before 5 November 2025 were disposed of, and a scribe entry pass is generated only for candidates who completed the mapping.
What changed from CGL 2025
| Item | CGL 2025 | CGL 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Level-8 posts | None | AAO (Central, State) and AAcO (State): 1,521 tentative vacancies |
| Tier-II papers | Paper-I; Paper-II (statistics) for JSO/SI Gr-II | Adds Paper-III, General Studies (Finance & Economics), 200 marks, for AAO/AAcO |
| Tier-I timing | One 60-minute block | 15-minute sectional timer for each of the four parts |
| Tier-II timing | One hour per section, no split | Section-I 30 + 30 minutes; Section-II 40 (English) + 20 (GA) |
| Tier-I cut-off lists | JSO, SI Gr-II, all other posts | JSO & SI Gr-II; AAO & AAcO; all other posts |
| Statistical Investigator Gr-II degree | 10 subjects after the 25.06.2025 corrigendum | 13 subjects — adds Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Technology |
| Tie-break | Paper-II (if any) → Section-I → age → name | Separate order for AAO (Paper-III first), JSO/SI (Paper-II first) and others |
| Answer-key challenge fee | ₹50 per question (charged all cycle) | Notice prints ₹100 per question — see below |
CGLE 2025 notice (09.06.2025) and corrigendum (25.06.2025); CGLE 2026 notice paras 2, 8.3.1, 13.8–13.9, 16.3 and 17; tentative vacancies 24.09.2026.
Two things did not change. Tier-I is still 100 questions for 200 marks with 0.50 deducted per wrong answer, and it still only qualifies candidates for Tier-II — its marks do not count in the final merit. And SSC still normalises multi-shift scores by the procedure notified on 2 June 2025 — the equipercentile method that SSC’s CGL 2025 Tier-I result says it applied (the 2024 Tier-I result used the 2019 formula).
One conflict to know about: the challenge fee
The CGLE 2026 notice says tentative answer keys can be challenged “on payment of ₹100/- per question” (para 13.3). But SSC’s standing notice of 22 August 2025 cut the fee to ₹50 per question until a refund mechanism exists, and both keys of the 2025 cycle — Tier-I on 16 October 2025 and Tier-II on 30 January 2026 — charged ₹50. Both are official documents. The Tier-I answer-key notice for 2026 will settle which applies; until then, expect either figure.
How long the rest of the cycle takes
| Stage | CGL 2024 | CGL 2025 | CGL 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Notice | 24.06.2024 | 09.06.2025 | 21.05.2026 |
| Tier-I held | 09.09.2024 – 26.09.2024 | 12.09.2025 – 26.09.2025, re-exam 14.10.2025 | 30.09.2026 – 30.10.2026 |
| Tier-I result | 05.12.2024 (70 days after the last Tier-I day) | 18.12.2025 (65 days after the re-exam) | — |
| Tier-II | 18–20.01.2025 (44 days after the result) | 18–19.01.2026 (31 days after the result) | “December, 2026” (tentative) |
| Final result | 12.03.2025 | 14.05.2026 (after FRTA 08.04.2026 and sliding) | — |
SSC notices and result write-ups; day counts are our arithmetic.
The arithmetic is worth doing because this year’s Tier-I ends later than ever. If SSC matched its last two turnarounds — 65 to 70 days from the last Tier-I day to the result, then 31 to 44 days to Tier-II — Tier-II would land somewhere between early and late February 2027. That is our arithmetic, not an SSC date: the notice still says December 2026, and SSC can move faster. What it does suggest is not to plan on a long gap after Tier-I; Tier-II preparation, especially the 45-question English module, is best started before the Tier-I result.
The vacancy count, cycle by cycle
SSC vacancy lists: CGLE 2022 revised final (13.05.2023), 2023 revised final (30.11.2023), 2024 final (21.02.2025), 2025 final result (14.05.2026), 2026 tentative (24.09.2026).
| Cycle | Notice figure | Tentative | Final |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022 | — | — | 36,001 (revised 13.05.2023) |
| 2023 | — | 8,440 | 8,415 → 7,859 after C&AG withdrew 556 |
| 2024 | ≈ 17,727 | 18,236 | 18,174 |
| 2025 | ≈ 14,582 | 14,582 | 15,125 → 15,118 recommended |
| 2026 | ≈ 12,256 | 10,731 (24.09.2026) | — |
SSC notices and vacancy lists. “Final vacancies may vary from the tentative vacancies” — SSC’s own footnote on the 2026 list. The 2025 final was higher than its tentative list; the 2024 final was lower.
Treat 10,731 as the working figure, not a floor or a ceiling. In 2025 the final list rose by more than 500 over the tentative one; in 2024 it fell by 62. The post mix matters more than the total: 2025 was dominated by one post — 6,626 Office Superintendent vacancies in CBDT, 44% of the final list — which has 426 this year, while Inspector (Central Excise) in CBIC is back to 2,366. The vacancy guide in this series has every row.

Practise it, don't just read it
Tier-I gives 15 minutes to each 25-question part, so reading comprehension speed decides the English score. The SSC CGL quizzes include reading-comprehension inference sets.
The ProSyllabus SSC CGL library has topic quizzes on reading comprehension and on the Paper-II statistics topics — index numbers, time series, analysis of variance and statistical inference — the first quiz is free.
