Checked 26 September 2026. From the CGLE 2026 notice (paras 8, 13.9, 13.11.6–13.11.7, 16, 17), SSC’s tentative vacancies of 24.09.2026 with Annexures A and B (scanned; our transcription), the CGLE 2024/2025 result write-ups and the 2023 vacancy lists. 2023 AAO cut-offs are reported only.
Two groups of CGL posts ask for a second 200-mark paper on top of Tier-II Paper-I. The statistics posts — Junior Statistical Officer and Statistical Investigator Grade-II — take Paper-II (Statistics). New for 2026, the Level-8 Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer posts take Paper-III, General Studies (Finance and Economics). In both cases the extra paper counts in the merit — 590 scored marks (Section-I and II of Paper-I, 390, plus the 200-mark paper), with the Computer Knowledge Test still qualifying — and SSC draws separate Tier-I lists: one for JSO, one for SI Gr-II and, in 2026, one for AAO/AAcO. This guide covers both: the syllabus, the seats — including the state-by-state AAO cadres that SSC published only as scanned annexures — past cut-offs and the rules that decide ties.

Where other pages get this wrong
Paper-III (for AAO/AAcO) is back in 2026 after the posts were absent from the 2024 and 2025 notices; in 2023 C&AG withdrew all its CGL vacancies, including every AAO post, before the final result.
Commonly published instead: Pages describing CGL Tier-II as Paper-I plus Paper-II only, or treating AAO as a routine CGL post every year.

SSC tentative vacancies as on 24.09.2026, rows 1–3. No ex-servicemen seats (Group B). Central-cadre selectees are allocated to offices across India by merit and state preference; B.Com holders and those with the desirable qualifications “will preferably be allocated to Commercial stream” (notice, Note-IV).
The two state-cadre rows are split state by state in two annexures that SSC attached to the vacancy list as scanned images, so they do not appear in a text search of the PDF. We transcribed them by hand; every row and every column reconciles with SSC’s totals of 504 each. Each state cadre needs a Matriculation-level certificate of proficiency in the language shown. In a few rows SSC’s scan has cut off the state’s name; we show only the language rather than guess.
AAO / AAcO state cadres: seats and the language you need
Annexures A and B of SSC’s tentative vacancies as on 24.09.2026 (scanned pages; our transcription, which reconciles to SSC’s totals of 504 + 504). State-cadre posts also need a Matriculation-level certificate of proficiency in the listed regional/official language (notice paras 8.1.2–8.1.3). Where SSC’s scan cuts off a state’s name, we show only the language.

The spread is uneven. Tamil Nadu has 110 AAO state-cadre seats and Kerala 80 AAcO seats, while several north-eastern cadres have two to five. For a candidate who holds a Class 10 certificate in Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada or Marathi, the state cadre is a real route to a Level-8 gazetted post; for others, the 513 central-cadre seats are the target.
What the last cycles show
There is no AAO result under the current structure to learn from. The only precedent is CGL 2023, which had the same arrangement — a Tier-I list for AAO/AAcO and a Paper-III — and whose AAO Tier-I list secondary sources report at UR 169.67, OBC 166.29, EWS 167.18, SC 154.29 and ST 148.99 — well above that year’s general list. Then, between SSC’s final vacancy list of 16 November 2023 (8,415) and the revised list of 30 November (7,859), C&AG withdrew all 556 of its vacancies: AAO 225, AAcO 28, Auditor 153 and Accountant 150 (our comparison of the two lists). For the statistics posts the record is fuller.

Should you opt in?
Opting for these posts adds a two-hour paper and a separate, higher Tier-I cut-off; it does not remove you from the other posts, because Paper-I merit still places you in the general list. The case for it is strongest for candidates who already hold the subject — a statistics or mathematics graduate for Paper-II, a commerce graduate for Paper-III, who is also “preferably” routed to the commercial audit stream. The case against is time: 200 marks of new syllabus competes with the 390 marks every post depends on. Our reading of the numbers is that the JSO route has been about 25 candidates per seat at the Tier-II stage (6,196 ÷ 249 in 2025), against about 9 on the general list (1,31,027 ÷ 14,751) — the extra paper narrows the field only for people who are genuinely strong in it.

Paper-II is where the statistics posts are won. The SSC CGL quizzes on index numbers, time series, analysis of variance and statistical inference follow Paper-II topics.

What is SSC CGL Paper-III?
General Studies (Finance and Economics), 100 questions for 200 marks in 2 hours, only for AAO and AAcO.
How many AAO vacancies are in SSC CGL 2026?
1,521: AAO Central Cadre 513, AAO State Cadre 504 and AAcO State Cadre 504.
Which state has the most SSC CGL AAO state-cadre seats?
Tamil Nadu, with 110 AAO (State Cadre) seats; Kerala has the most AAcO seats, 80.
Do I need a regional language for SSC CGL AAO?
Only for a state cadre: a Matriculation-level certificate in that state’s language.
What is the SSC CGL AAO pay level?
Level 8, ₹47,600 – 1,51,100, Group B Gazetted.
What is the SSC CGL JSO syllabus?
Paper-II statistics: descriptive statistics, correlation and regression, probability and distributions, sampling and tests, ANOVA, time series and index numbers.
What was the SSC CGL 2025 JSO cut-off?
Tier-I UR 153.46108; the last UR candidate selected had 394.5 of 590.
Can I apply for AAO and other CGL posts together?
Yes — Paper-I merit places you for other posts as well; the extra paper only adds the AAO route.
How are ties broken for AAO in SSC CGL?
Paper-III marks, then Section-I marks, then the older candidate, then alphabetical order.
Why was no AAO allotted in SSC CGL 2023?
The posts were advertised and examined, but C&AG withdrew all 556 of its vacancies — including AAO — between the 16 and 30 November 2023 vacancy lists.
