SSC CGL Post List and Salary 2026: Pay Levels 4 to 8, Post by Post

Checked 26 September 2026. Pay levels, groups and age limits from the CGLE 2026 notice (para 2); seats from SSC’s tentative vacancies of 24.09.2026; last-selected marks from the CGLE 2025 final result. SSC publishes no in-hand salary, DA or HRA figure.

SSC CGL fills more than 30 kinds of post across five pay levels of the 7th Pay Commission matrix, from Level 4 (₹25,500) for Tax Assistants and Upper Division Clerks to Level 8 (₹47,600) for the Assistant Audit and Accounts Officers who return this year. The pay level is fixed by the post, not by your marks, so the preference list is also a salary decision. This guide lists every post in the 2026 notice with its level, group and age band, the 2026 seats, and the posts that come with physical tests or other conditions — and it does not print an in-hand figure, because SSC does not publish one.

₹47,600
entry basic, Level 8 (AAO / AAcO)
₹44,900
entry basic, Level 7 (ASO, Inspectors)
₹25,500
entry basic, Level 4 (Tax Assistant, UDC)
₹1,51,100
top of Level 8

CGLE 2026 notice, para 2.

Where other pages get this wrong

The CGL 2026 pay range runs to ₹1,51,100 (Level 8), because the AAO and AAcO posts are back.

Commonly published instead: “SSC CGL salary: ₹25,500 – ₹1,42,400.”

CGLE 2026 notice para 2.1: Pay Level-8 (₹47,600 to 1,51,100) for AAO (Central, State) and AAcO (State). ₹1,42,400 is the top of Level 7.

Level, group and age: CGLE 2026 notice para 2. Seats: SSC tentative vacancies 24.09.2026 (our sums across rows of the same post). Last-selected marks: our extraction from SSC’s CGLE 2025 final result (14.05.2026) — how candidates ranked posts, not a promise for 2026.

Two patterns stand out. Pay and popularity mostly agree: the Level-7 posts closed highest in 2025 and the Level-4 posts lowest. But the exceptions matter. Office Superintendent (Level 6) and Executive Assistant (Level 6) closed near the Level-5 Auditor, while Assistant Enforcement Officer — Level 7 like every Inspector — closed 43 marks above Inspector (Central Excise), a post with physical tests and field work (our arithmetic). Candidates rank on more than basic pay: location, the nature of the work, promotion routes and the physical rules all show up in these numbers.

Starting pay by level, with your own DA and HRA rates

Entry pay is the lower end of each level’s range printed in the CGLE 2026 notice (para 2). SSC publishes no DA, HRA or in-hand figure, so this tool uses the rates you enter; it leaves out transport allowance, deductions (NPS, tax) and any post-specific allowance. Arithmetic: basic + basic × DA% + basic × HRA%.

What pay does SSC actually publish?

ItemPublished by SSC?
Pay level and rangeYes — for every post (notice para 2)
Entry basic payImplicit — the lower end of the level’s range
Dearness allowance, HRA, transport allowanceNo — set by Government orders at the time, and HRA depends on the city of posting
In-hand salaryNo — depends on allowances and deductions (NPS, tax)
PostingAll posts carry All India Service Liability; departments allot states or zones
Local languageDepartments may require proficiency in the allotted state’s language for confirmation

CGLE 2026 notice paras 2 and 16.22–16.23.

Any in-hand figure you see for a CGL post has been built by someone from the basic pay plus the DA rate and an HRA class they assumed. That is legitimate if the assumptions are stated — which is why the calculator above asks you for the DA and HRA rates rather than supplying them — but it is not an SSC number, and it goes out of date every time DA is revised.

Group B or Group C: why it matters beyond pay

RuleGroup B posts (Levels 6–8)Group C posts (Levels 4–5)
Ex-servicemen reservationNone — ESM seats are reserved in Group C onlyYes (e.g. 146 in Tax Assistant CBDT, 88 in Auditor CGDA in 2026)
Age band18–30 (20–30 for some ASO and SI CBI; 18–32 for JSO)18–27
Central Govt employee relaxationNot availableUp to 40 years (SC/ST 45) with 3 years’ service
Widow / divorced relaxationNot availableUp to 35 years (SC/ST 40)
Gazetted statusLevel 8 AAO/AAcO onlyNo

CGLE 2026 notice paras 2, 3.3 and 5.2; seats from SSC tentative vacancies 24.09.2026.

The Group C relaxations mean a candidate can be too old for every Group B post and still eligible for the Level 4 and 5 posts — a Central Government employee with three years’ service up to 40, for instance. For that candidate the realistic list is short: Auditor, Accountant, Tax Assistant and UDC/SSA, which with the other Level 4 and 5 rows make up 4,056 seats in 2026 (our sum).

Physical tests and other conditions by post

PostCondition
CBIC Inspectors; CBN Inspector and SIMen 157.5 cm, chest 81 cm fully expanded with at least 5 cm expansion; women 152 cm, 48 kg. Walking for all; cycling for all except SI in CBN
SI CBIMen 165 cm, chest 76 cm with expansion; women 150 cm; vision standard
SI NIAMen 170 cm, chest 76 cm with expansion; women 150 cm; vision standard
SI/JIO NCBMen 165 cm, chest 76 + 5 cm; women 152 cm; vision standard
UDC BROMen only; BRO physical efficiency test and medical standards

CGLE 2026 notice Annexures XV and XVI. Tested by the department after selection; failing them ends the candidature (para 16.16).
