JAIIB and CAIIB Exam Day Rules: ID, Calculator, Phones and Debarment

Checked 30 September 2026. Exam-day rules from IIBF’s JAIIB, CAIIB and CAIIB Elective Rules & Syllabus 2026, the unfair-means policy and the debarment table effective 1 November 2025, and the scribe guidelines of 6 May 2024. The CAIIB 105-minute Submit notice was stated for one sitting and may change. Freshness check on 30 September 2026: IIBF’s homepage, JAIIB page and CAIIB page were re-opened and no JAIIB or CAIIB notice newer than 13 September 2026 was found.

Most JAIIB and CAIIB candidates read the syllabus closely and the exam-day rules not at all, until they are standing at the gate. The rules are short, but three of them catch working bankers every sitting: the calculator must be a basic one, a phone in your bag counts even when it is switched off, and a debarment does not stop your attempts from being counted. This guide sets out what IIBF’s 2026 rules booklets say, the debarment table effective from 1 November 2025, and the scribe guidelines of 6 May 2024, with the places where IIBF’s own pages disagree printed side by side.

The pass rules, attempts and time limit are in our attempts and time-limit guide. How to work the numerical chapters on the permitted calculator is in our calculator and numericals guide.

IIBF JAIIB and CAIIB Rules & Syllabus 2026; IIBF debarment table effective 1 November 2025.

Before the day: centre, admit letter, login

At registration you choose only the examination centre, meaning the city. IIBF then allots the venue and the time slot. The 2026 rules are blunt about changing it later: there is no provision in the system to change the centre after a successful application, and no request for a change of centre will be entertained for any reason. Choose the centre where you will actually be on the exam date, not where you are posted today, if you expect a transfer.

IIBF has made one exception in 2026. A homepage notice signed on 27 April 2026 opened a centre-change facility for the CAIIB and CAIIB Elective May-June 2026 sitting “on the grounds of Bank Transfers”, with the link in the candidate’s login from 28 April to 4 May 2026. The rules booklet still says no change is possible. Our reading: the general rule stands, and IIBF may open a transfer-only window in a given sitting. Do not register for the wrong city expecting one.

There is no admit letter at registration. The venue and time slot arrive later, on the admit letter, which you download using your membership or registration number and your profile password. IIBF’s new Digital Candidate Portal also accepts your registered email or mobile number as the username; first-time users must set a password through Forgot Password, and an OTP goes to the registered email and mobile. The admit letter is valid only for the exam, date and venue printed on it.

QuestionJAIIB and CAIIB Rules 2026IIBF membership pageWhat to do
When is the admit letter out?“10-15 days prior to the date of examination”Emailed 10 days before the start of the examination; on the website 1 week beforeLook from about 15 days before; expect it by 7 days before at the latest
Which ID is accepted?Membership ID card, Aadhaar or e-Aadhaar, employer’s ID card, PAN card, driving licence, voter ID card, passportEmployer’s photo ID, PAN card, driving licence, voter ID card, passport, Aadhaar (no membership ID card or e-Aadhaar)Carry an original from both lists, e.g. PAN or passport
Can I change my centre? No provision; no request entertained for any reasonNot covered. Homepage notice of 27 April 2026: transfer-only window for CAIIB May-June 2026Treat the centre as fixed
Can I change the medium?Hindi or English is fixed at registrationNot coveredChoose carefully when you register

Two conflicts sit in that table, and we print both sides rather than pick one. On timing, the rules booklet says 10 to 15 days before the exam, while the membership page says an email 10 days before and a website copy 1 week before. On ID, the rules list the IIBF membership ID card and e-Aadhaar, and the membership page does not. The safe course is an original document that appears on both lists.

What to carry, and what gets you debarred

ItemIIBF ruleIf you get it wrong
Printed admit letterRequired. Without it, entry is refusedYou do not sit; the attempt still counts, because attempts are counted on application
Original photo IDRequired, along with the admit letterEntry refused
Basic calculatorAllowed: up to 8 functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide, percentage, square root, Tax+, Tax-), 12 digitsAnything with more features is unfair means
Scientific or programmable calculator“Scientific calculator is not allowed”15 months debarment
Mobile phone or smart gadgetNot allowed. “Mere possession”, switched off or on silent, is unfair means6 months for possession; 15 months for use
Books, notes, chitsNot allowed15 months
Mathematical tables, slide rules, stencilsNot allowedUnfair means
Food and drinkListed as misconduct: Water and essential medication onlyMisconduct

The calculator rule is quoted in full because it decides what you can buy. IIBF allows a “battery operated portable calculator ... of any type up to 8 functions i.e. (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Percentage, Sq.-root, Tax+ and Tax -), 12 digits”. A calculator with more features than that is treated as unfair means, and “Scientific calculator is not allowed”. The list does not mention memory keys, so we cannot tell you whether a model with M+ and M- passes; the safest choice is a plain 12-digit model whose keys match that list. The numericals guide shows how to do powers, annuity factors and standard deviations on such a calculator.

The phone rule is the one that surprises people. IIBF’s rules say that mere possession of a mobile phone or other electronic or smart gadget in the examination hall, whether switched off or on silent, is unfair means. Under the 2025 table that is a 6-month debarment for possession alone, and 15 months if you use it. A smartwatch is a smart gadget. Leave it at home or in whatever storage the venue offers; do not assume there will be storage.

In the hall

Reach the venue before the reporting time on your admit letter; candidates are not let in after the gate-closing time printed there. Sign the attendance sheet. Log in to the test with the password printed on your admit letter, and do not share it. If the power or the system fails, you may be asked to wait, or to take the exam at another venue arranged by the exam authority; follow its instructions. The paper is online, lasts 2 hours, and has no negative marking.

The rules say no candidate may leave the venue in the first 60 minutes from the scheduled start. For CAIIB there has been a second, later limit. An undated IIBF homepage notice, posted among notices of early June 2026 and still on the homepage on 30 September 2026, says the Submit button “for upcoming CAIIB/CAIIB Elective examination will be enabled only after 105 minutes from commencement of the examination” and advises candidates not to leave the hall until then. That notice was about CAIIB and the Elective, not JAIIB, and we found no statement that it applies to December 2026. Plan to stay the full 2 hours in a CAIIB paper either way.

Hand back every rough sheet before you leave; taking one out of the hall is listed as misconduct. IIBF also says it reviews each candidate’s audit trail and the centre’s CCTV footage after the exam “using a scientific method”, and books candidates it finds using unfair means, so a case can be opened after you have gone home. Violations are reported to your employer. The rules also advise candidates to check IIBF’s website one day before the exam for changes to the exam, centre or venue, and IIBF did change venues in several cities for the May and June 2026 sittings.

Unfair means: IIBF’s five groups

IIBF’s policy for centre-based exams, dated 1 November 2025, lists unfair means in five groups and says the list is indicative, not exhaustive. Misconduct has 20 items, from misbehaving with staff to reading questions aloud, eating anything other than water and essential medicine, and leaving your seat without the invigilator’s permission. Seeking assistance has 7 items, including possession of a scientific calculator, headphones, a pen drive or a Bluetooth device, and a scribe who answers questions independently. Then come impersonation, forgery of IIBF documents, and a catch-all for any other action seen as a violation.

One misconduct item deserves a careful read, because it touches how you use the rough sheet: “Noting down exam questions and/or options in rough sheet, and/ or formula /hints etc. on Admit letter or on any other material.” The sentence can be read two ways. Copying questions or options onto the rough sheet is plainly covered. Whether writing a formula from memory on the rough sheet is covered is less clear. Our advice is to use the rough sheet only for working, never to copy a question onto it, and never to write anything on the admit letter.

Mass copying (row 3)60 months

IIBF, Details of debarment period for unfair practices, effective for exams from 1 November 2025. Rows 1, 13 and 15 are permanent; row 16 is decided case by case.

Three notes sit under the table. The debarment runs from the date of the examination. The names of debarred candidates are reported to their employers. A candidate caught for more than one offence gets the highest penalty that applies. And the rules booklets add the line that makes a debarment expensive for a JAIIB or CAIIB candidate: candidates who have been debarred will have their attempts counted during the debarment period.

How much that costs depends on your window, and we will not put a number on it. The time limit is five attempts within three years of your first registration, and IIBF holds each exam twice a year, so a 15-month debarment covers about two or three sittings of a six-sitting window, and a 24-month one about four (our arithmetic). The rules say attempts “will be counted” during debarment; they do not spell out how many. Either way, a long debarment can end a JAIIB or CAIIB window outright, and the credits in it.

Why this site publishes no “memory-based” JAIIB or CAIIB papers

  • Row 12 of the 2025 table debars candidates for 24 months for sharing questions on social media, electronically or on paper.
  • IIBF’s 2026 rules say its multiple-choice questions and answers are its intellectual property, will not be shared with candidates or others, and that no correspondence on them will be entertained.
  • Our practice material is written from the published syllabus, not recalled from any sitting.

Scribes and extra time

RuleIIBF guideline (6 May 2024)
Who can use a scribeVisually impaired or low-vision candidates; candidates with cerebral palsy whose locomotor impairment affects writing speed; physically handicapped candidates who cannot operate a keyboard and mouse. Other categories are not eligible
Who arranges and paysThe candidate, at their own cost
Who may not be the scribeAnyone who works or has worked in a bank or financial institution; anyone professionally qualified in the subject; anyone who has taken or passed the same exam. The scribe must be at least one step below the candidate’s qualification, may be from any stream, and may scribe for one candidate per subject per day
Extra time20 minutes for every hour of the exam, given by the system only if you registered for it beforehand
How to applyOnline (Apply Now, then Apply for scribe), not later than 3 days before the exam, for each attempt and subject, with an attested disability certificate and the Annexure-A declaration
What to carryPermission printout, original declaration, attested certificate, admit letter, your ID and the scribe’s ID. Both report 15 minutes before the reporting time
MisuseUsing a scribe only to get extra time is not allowed. A scribe answering independently is treated as impersonation; a false scribe declaration is a 15-month debarment

On a 2-hour JAIIB or CAIIB paper the extra time works out to 40 minutes (our arithmetic from 20 minutes per hour). The application is per subject and per attempt, so a candidate sitting all four JAIIB papers files four applications, each at least 3 days before its own paper. The scribe rules are strict about who may help because the scribe sees the questions: a scribe from banking, or one who has sat the same exam, would be a very different kind of help.

Build your checklist

Exam-day checklist and deadlines

Pick your exam and the date of your paper. The checklist prints what IIBF’s 2026 rules ask you to carry, what to leave outside, and the dates that follow from IIBF’s own deadlines. It invents no reporting or gate-closing time: those are printed only on your admit letter.

Sources: IIBF JAIIB and CAIIB Rules & Syllabus 2026 (exam-day rules), IIBF membership page (admit letter timing), IIBF scribe guidelines of 6 May 2024, IIBF debarment table effective 1 November 2025. The dates are our arithmetic from those rules.

Is a calculator allowed in JAIIB and CAIIB?

Yes, a battery-operated portable calculator with up to 8 functions (add, subtract, multiply, divide, percentage, square root, Tax+ and Tax-) and 12 digits. A scientific calculator is not allowed, and using a programmable or scientific one is a 15-month debarment.

What if I carry my phone but keep it switched off?

IIBF’s rules say mere possession of a phone, switched off or on silent, is unfair means. The debarment table effective 1 November 2025 sets 6 months for possession and 15 months for use.

Which ID proof is valid for the JAIIB exam?

The 2026 rules list the IIBF membership ID card, Aadhaar or e-Aadhaar, employer’s ID card, PAN card, driving licence, voter ID card and passport. IIBF’s membership page gives a shorter list without the membership card and e-Aadhaar, so an original PAN card, passport or Aadhaar is the safest choice.

When will the JAIIB or CAIIB admit letter be available?

The rules say 10 to 15 days before the exam. IIBF’s membership page says it is emailed 10 days before and hosted on the website 1 week before. Download it from your login and carry a printed copy.

Can I leave the CAIIB exam hall early?

Not in the first 60 minutes, under the rules. For the CAIIB and Elective papers of May/June 2026 an IIBF notice said the Submit button would be enabled only after 105 minutes and advised candidates not to leave before then.

Can I change my JAIIB or CAIIB exam centre?

The 2026 rules say there is no provision to change the centre after applying. In April 2026 IIBF made an exception for CAIIB May-June 2026 candidates transferred by their banks, with a link open from 28 April to 4 May 2026.

Do attempts count while I am debarred?

Yes. IIBF’s rules say that for debarred candidates, attempts will be counted during the debarment period.

How much extra time does a scribe candidate get?

20 minutes for every hour, which is 40 minutes on a 2-hour paper, if you applied for the scribe online at least 3 days before the exam.
