Checked 30 September 2026. Professional Banker from IIBF’s Professional Banker page (last modified 30 September 2026); CFP, Chartered Banker, IGNOU, GARP and CPD from IIBF’s Annual Report 2025-26; standalone electives from IIBF’s CAIIB Elective Rules 2026. Partner fees are set by the partners and are not on IIBF’s pages. Freshness check on 30 September 2026: IIBF’s homepage, JAIIB page and CAIIB page were re-opened and no JAIIB or CAIIB notice newer than 13 September 2026 was found.
CAIIB is IIBF’s senior flagship exam, but IIBF does not treat it as the end of the line. Its own pages and its Annual Report 2025-26 list at least six routes that start from CAIIB: further electives as stand-alone certificates, the Professional Banker qualification, a fast track to the CFP certification, conversion to Chartered Banker status in the UK, a CAIIB-linked MBA with IGNOU, and GARP’s Financial Risk and Regulation course. This guide sets out what each one needs and what CAIIB saves you, and marks clearly what IIBF does not publish, mostly the fees charged by partner bodies.
What CAIIB itself is worth in pay is in our increment and PQP calculator; choosing the first elective is in our elective chooser.

Professional Banker: IIBF’s gold-level qualification
IIBF describes the Professional Banker as a “gold level qualification”. It has five tracks, each covering one area of banking. The rules are short. You must pass CAIIB first. You then pass the exams listed under your chosen track, and exams you have already passed under that track are credited, so you take only the rest. The status may be conferred on a banking and finance professional with 5 years’ work experience who has passed the track’s exams. Registration costs Rs 1,000 plus taxes, and the certificate names the track.
| Track | Common exams | Track exams (IIBF page) |
|---|---|---|
| Credit | CAIIB + Ethics in Banking + Strategic Management & Innovation in Banking | Certified Credit Professional + Risk in Financial Services |
| Treasury | CAIIB + Ethics in Banking + Strategic Management & Innovation in Banking | Certified Treasury Professional + Risk in Financial Services |
| Accounting & Audit | CAIIB + Ethics in Banking + Strategic Management & Innovation in Banking | Certified Accounting & Audit Professional + Certified Banking Compliance Professional |
| Information Technology | CAIIB + Ethics in Banking + Strategic Management & Innovation in Banking | Certified Exam in Prevention of Cyber Crimes & Fraud Mgmt. + Certificate in Digital Banking + Certificate Exam in Emerging Technologies |
| International Banking | CAIIB + Ethics in Banking + Strategic Management & Innovation in Banking | Certificate in Foreign Exchange (FEDAI) + Diploma in International Banking & Finance |
One conflict sits on IIBF’s own page. The track list for Information Technology includes three track exams: Prevention of Cyber Crimes and Fraud Management, Certificate in Digital Banking, and Certificate Exam in Emerging Technologies. The designation list further down the same page names only the first two. We print the longer list in the tool below, with the conflict noted; ask IIBF which applies before you register for the IT track.
Choosing a track is mostly a question of where you work and want to work. A credit officer already holding the Certified Credit Professional has two exams left after CAIIB in addition to the two common ones. A treasury dealer is in the same position with the Certified Treasury Professional. The IIBF mock-test site covers Certified Credit Officer, Certified Treasury Professional and Risk in Financial Services, which suggests the credit and treasury tracks have the most official practice material, although IIBF does not say so.
Professional Banker: what is left for your track?
Pick a track and tick the exams you have already passed. IIBF credits exams already passed under a track, so only the rest remain.
Tracks from IIBF’s Professional Banker page, checked 30 September 2026. The same page lists the IT track twice, once with and once without the Certificate Exam in Emerging Technologies; confirm with IIBF before relying on either.
The CFP fast track
IIBF has collaborated with the Financial Planning Standards Board (FPSB) India to offer the Certified Financial Planner certification through a fast-track programme. According to IIBF’s Annual Report 2025-26, CAIIB members are eligible for the fast track and are exempt from the exams of the three specialist courses: Investment Planning Specialist, Retirement and Tax Planning Specialist, and Risk and Estate Planning Specialist. They move straight to the final course, Integrated Financial Planning, and the Financial Plan Assessment, and they get a special discount on the fees.
For a banker in wealth management or retail, that is the largest saving on the list: three exams out of the way because of CAIIB. IIBF’s pages do not print FPSB India’s fees or the size of the discount, so we cannot turn the saving into rupees. Check FPSB India’s current fee schedule and ask specifically for the IIBF fast-track rate.
Chartered Banker status
IIBF has a Mutual Recognition Agreement with the Chartered Banker Institute in Edinburgh, UK, in place since September 2017. Under it, CAIIB-qualified candidates can have their qualification recognised and attain Chartered Banker status, and JAIIB-qualified candidates Associate Chartered Banker status, through a Professional Conversion Programme. IIBF’s homepage carries an application link for the JAIIB route. The fee for the conversion programme is not on the IIBF pages we read.
The IGNOU MBA, GARP FRR and CPD
IIBF has renewed its collaboration with IGNOU for five more years to offer a CAIIB-linked MBA in Banking and Finance. Under the renewed agreement the programme is open to both bankers and non-bankers, with credit transfer or exemption for candidates who already hold JAIIB and CAIIB. IIBF says it will work closely with IGNOU on the programme of study. IGNOU’s fee and the exact credits exempted are not stated in IIBF’s report.
The Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) offers its Financial Risk and Regulation (FRR) course to IIBF candidates who have passed JAIIB or CAIIB. IIBF describes it as designed for professionals with three to five years’ experience in the financial sector, particularly in risk, audit, treasury, accounting, consulting, compliance, IT, trading and insurance, and covering credit risk, market risk, operational risk, and asset and liability management. GARP’s fee is not on IIBF’s pages.
Finally, IIBF offers a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certification to current members at what it calls a nominal fee. Its annual report tracks the electives chosen under CPD alongside those chosen in CAIIB, which suggests CPD uses the same elective subjects, but the report does not print the fee, so check the CPD page before planning around it.
More electives as stand-alone certificates
The simplest next step costs the least. IIBF’s CAIIB Elective rules let CAIIB holders take the electives they did not choose as separate certificate exams, one per sitting, with 50 out of 100 to pass and a fee of Rs 1,100 per attempt. A banker moving from branch work into risk or IT can add that elective to the CAIIB already held. Our elective guide compares the five.
What is the IIBF Professional Banker qualification?
A “gold level” qualification with five tracks: Credit, Treasury, Accounting & Audit, Information Technology and International Banking. It needs CAIIB first, the track’s exams, 5 years’ work experience and Rs 1,000 plus taxes to register.
Which exams are needed for Professional Banker – Credit?
CAIIB, Ethics in Banking, Strategic Management & Innovation in Banking, Certified Credit Professional and Risk in Financial Services. Exams already passed are credited.
Do CAIIB holders get an exemption for CFP?
Yes. IIBF’s Annual Report 2025-26 says CAIIB members are eligible for FPSB India’s fast track, are exempt from the three specialist-course exams, go straight to Integrated Financial Planning and the Financial Plan Assessment, and get a fee discount.
Can CAIIB lead to Chartered Banker status?
Yes. Under IIBF’s agreement with the Chartered Banker Institute (since September 2017), CAIIB holders can attain Chartered Banker status through a Professional Conversion Programme; JAIIB holders can attain Associate Chartered Banker status.
Is there an MBA linked to CAIIB?
IIBF and IGNOU offer a CAIIB-linked MBA in Banking and Finance, open to bankers and non-bankers, with credit transfer or exemption for JAIIB and CAIIB holders. IGNOU’s fee is not published on IIBF’s pages.
Can I take another CAIIB elective after passing CAIIB?
Yes, as a separate certificate exam: one elective per sitting, 50 out of 100 to pass, Rs 1,100 per attempt, per IIBF’s CAIIB Elective rules.
