Checked 30 September 2026. Membership fee and rules from IIBF’s ordinary membership, membership and FAQ pages; exam fees from IIBF’s JAIIB and CAIIB pages; optional costs from IIBF’s mock-test site and 2026 contact-class notices. JAIIB November 2026 registration is closed; CAIIB December 2026 registration runs to 3 October 2026 on IIBF’s CAIIB page. Freshness check on 30 September 2026: IIBF’s homepage, JAIIB page and CAIIB page were re-opened and no JAIIB or CAIIB notice newer than 13 September 2026 was found.
You cannot register for JAIIB or CAIIB as a bank employee without first being an ordinary member of IIBF. IIBF’s exam pages say so in four words, “Examination Eligible for Members Only”, and the rules booklets repeat it. Membership is a one-time step that many candidates do in a hurry during a registration window. This guide covers who qualifies, what it costs, how the new candidate portal works, and what JAIIB and CAIIB cost in total, from the membership fee to the last CAIIB paper.

Who can become an ordinary member
| Question | What IIBF says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Who is eligible | Employees of recognised banking establishments, nationalised and private, including RBI, SBI, other central and state financial institutions and co-operative banks; and employees of other institutions in India that are institutional members of IIBF | Ordinary membership page |
| Who approves | Admission is subject to approval by IIBF’s Council | Ordinary membership page |
| How often | “Ordinary Membership of the Institute can be taken only once” | IIBF FAQ |
| Life or annual | Every member enrolled from 2000 is a life member. Only members enrolled before 1999 who are not life members may renew | Membership page |
| Who cannot renew | Existing life members, DB&F candidates, and candidates registered as non-members | Membership page |
The condition that trips people up is the employer. If you work for a bank or financial institution of the kinds IIBF lists, you qualify. If you work for another organisation, it must itself be an institutional member of IIBF, which your HR department can confirm. Admission is subject to the Council’s approval, so apply before the registration window you are aiming for, not during its last week.
The fee, and what it buys
| Item | Amount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary membership, Indian applicants | Rs 1,500 + GST 18% Rs 270 = Rs 1,770 | Paid online by card or net banking |
| Ordinary membership, overseas applicants | USD 150 | As printed on the ordinary membership page |
| Renewal (pre-1999, non-life members only) | Rs 1,770 | Processed within 15 days; fee not refunded |
| Membership ID card, members from 1 June 2017 | Free soft copy; first two downloads free | Available after verification, which may take up to 45 days. No hard copy |
| Duplicate ID card, members before June 2017 | Rs 100 + Rs 18 GST = Rs 118 | Membership page |
IIBF’s FAQ calls the Rs 1,770 a life membership fee including GST, which matches the membership page. Because the soft-copy ID card can take up to 45 days after verification, a new member may not have it for the first exam. That is not a problem at the gate: the rules accept several other original photo IDs, listed in our exam-day guide. If you have forgotten your membership number, IIBF’s FAQ says to email one of its offices with your full name, date of birth, address, probable year of enrolment, employer and mobile number.
The new candidate portal
IIBF has moved candidates to a new Digital Candidate Portal at portal.iibf.org.in. You can sign in with your registered email address, registered mobile number or membership number as the username. First-time users must use the Forgot Password link to set a password before signing in. An OTP is sent to your registered email and mobile to confirm it is you, and you land on your Edit Profile page. IIBF says you must complete your profile to use its upcoming services.
Keep that profile accurate. Your admit letter, result and digitally signed certificate all go to the email address in it, and IIBF’s FAQ says changes to your address, mobile, email or employer take effect within 3 to 5 days. A candidate who changes banks or email addresses in the middle of an exam cycle should update the profile the same week.
JAIIB or DB&F: bank employees do not get to choose
IIBF runs the Diploma in Banking & Finance (DB&F) with the same four papers as JAIIB, for a first-attempt fee of Rs 3,500, but it is for eligible non-members. IIBF’s rules say bank and financial-institution employees who are eligible for ordinary membership and JAIIB should take JAIIB, and that if they sit DB&F, their result or certificate is liable to cancellation. A DB&F holder who later joins a bank has a route across: IIBF runs a DB&F-to-JAIIB credit-transfer facility. The full comparison of the related courses is in our syllabus module map.
Registering for each sitting
Membership is paid once; the exam is paid for every sitting. Each attempt is a separate registration with a separate fee, and IIBF’s rules say fees are not refunded or adjusted. At registration you also fix the medium, Hindi or English, and the centre, and neither can be changed later under the rules. An attempt is counted when you apply, whether or not you sit, so do not register for a sitting you will skip. Late registration adds Rs 100 or Rs 200 depending on the week, although IIBF waived the JAIIB late fee for both late weeks of the November 2026 cycle by notices of 18 August and 25 August 2026.
| Sitting | Registration (IIBF page and notices) | Papers |
|---|---|---|
| JAIIB November 2026 | 12 August to 6 September 2026 (extended); closed | 1, 22, 28 and 29 November 2026 |
| CAIIB and CAIIB Elective December 2026 | Opened 13 September 2026; normal fee to 19 September, +Rs 100 to 26 September, +Rs 200 from 27 September to 3 October 2026 | 6, 12, 13 and 20 December; electives 27 December 2026 |

The full cost, from joining to CAIIB
| Scenario (our arithmetic) | Membership | JAIIB fees | CAIIB fees | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pass both at the first attempt | Rs 1,770 | Rs 4,000 | Rs 5,000 | Rs 10,770 plus GST on exam fees |
| Two sittings each | Rs 1,770 | Rs 5,300 | Rs 6,300 | Rs 13,370 plus GST on exam fees |
| All five sittings each | Rs 1,770 | Rs 9,200 | Rs 10,200 | Rs 21,170 plus GST on exam fees |
| Optional line | Price (IIBF) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Official mock test | Rs 100 plus GST per subject | One attempt per subject within 3 months |
| Online contact classes (PDC North Zone, and PDC Lucknow for JAIIB) | Rs 2,000 + 18% GST = Rs 2,360 per subject; Rs 9,440 for four | Fees not refunded |
| Physical contact classes, PDC Lucknow (JAIIB/DB&F) | Rs 2,500 + 18% GST = Rs 2,950 per subject; Rs 11,800 for four | Batch runs only with at least 25 applicants per subject |
| Official books (Macmillan Education India) | Not printed on IIBF’s pages | Sold through the publisher’s bookshop; see our books guide |
| Late registration | +Rs 100 or +Rs 200 per sitting | Depends on the week you register |
IIBF’s course pages add “Plus GST as applicable” to the exam fees without printing the rate, so we do not add GST to them; the membership fee and contact-class fees above already include it. The biggest variable is not any single line but the number of sittings, which is why the pass rates in our pass-rate guide matter for budgeting. Books, mock tests and classes are covered in our books and study material guide.
Some of this may come back. Central Bank of India’s HR booklet for officers, dated 26 June 2024, says the bank reimburses examination fees for employees who pass certificate and diploma courses from bodies like IIBF, and pays incentives for passing exams such as JAIIB and CAIIB. It does not print the amounts, and we found no published amounts for other banks. Ask your HR department for the current circular before you pay, and keep every receipt.
Work out your own total
What JAIIB and CAIIB will cost you
Enter how many sittings you expect to register for, and the extras you plan to buy. Exam fees are shown before GST and convenience charges, because IIBF’s course pages say “Plus GST as applicable” without printing the rate.
Fees: IIBF ordinary membership page; JAIIB and CAIIB pages (Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000 first attempt, Rs 1,300 each later attempt); IIBF mock-test site (Rs 100 plus GST per subject); IIBF PDC contact-class notices of 2026 (Rs 2,360 per subject online, GST included). Late fees (Rs 100 or Rs 200 per sitting) are not included. Totals are our arithmetic.
What is the IIBF ordinary membership fee?
Rs 1,500 plus 18% GST of Rs 270, a total of Rs 1,770 for Indian applicants, and USD 150 for overseas applicants, per IIBF’s ordinary membership page.
Is IIBF membership lifelong?
IIBF says all members enrolled from 2000 are life members, and its FAQ says ordinary membership can be taken only once. Only pre-1999 members who are not life members can renew.
Who is eligible for IIBF ordinary membership?
Employees of recognised banking establishments, including nationalised and private banks, RBI, SBI, financial institutions and co-operative banks, and employees of institutions that are IIBF institutional members, subject to Council approval.
Can a bank employee take DB&F instead of JAIIB?
No. IIBF says employees eligible for ordinary membership and JAIIB should take JAIIB, and that their DB&F result or certificate is liable to cancellation if they sit DB&F.
How do I get my IIBF membership ID card?
Members registered from 1 June 2017 get only a soft copy in their profile after verification, which may take up to 45 days. The first two downloads are free.
What is the total cost of JAIIB and CAIIB?
At least Rs 10,770 if you pass both at the first attempt (membership plus two first-attempt fees), plus GST on the exam fees; up to Rs 21,170 plus GST if you use all five sittings for each (our arithmetic).
Does my bank reimburse the JAIIB fee?
Some banks do. Central Bank of India’s HR booklet says it reimburses examination fees on passing and pays incentives for JAIIB and CAIIB, but no amounts are published. Check your bank’s circular.
