For the 2026-27 session, CBSE's Class 11 assessment framework gives roughly 40 percent weightage to competency-based items (MCQs, case studies, source-based questions) against about 60 percent for traditional theory questions, split as an 80-mark theory paper plus 20-mark internal assessment, deliberately mirroring the Class 12 board format ahead of the 2027-28 boards.

Students currently in Class 11 will continue using existing NCERT textbooks through the 2026-27 academic year; NCERT-aligned revised textbooks for Classes 10 and 11 (matching the NCF-SE 2023 curriculum already rolled out for Classes 1-9) are confirmed for introduction only from the 2027-28 academic session.

New Kerala

Class 11 theory papers for most subjects run 3 hours with no negative marking and built-in internal choice across sections, and since it is a school-conducted annual exam (not a CBSE-administered board exam), the exact datesheet is set by each affiliated school rather than centrally by CBSE.

CBSE released the curriculum for the academic session 2026-27 for Classes IX to XII through Circular Acad-14/2026 dated April 1, 2026. The Class 11 syllabus for every subject is available on the CBSE Academic portal, and schools were told to sensitise teachers and brief parents.

The 2026-27 senior-secondary curriculum follows the scheme of studies recommended by NCF-SE 2023: competency-based assessment, a single final examination instead of a term-wise split, and new electives such as Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurship alongside the compulsory English paper.

NCERT has deferred the new NCF-aligned textbooks for Class 11 to the 2027-28 session, so Class 11 students continue with the existing NCERT books in 2026-27. New Class 9 textbooks are the ones being introduced from 2026-27.
