Haryana SAS pass marks and exemption calculator (45/50/60)
Check whether you have passed an SAS part, which papers you have banked with 60%, and the aggregate trap: passing every paper and still failing the part.

Where other pages get this wrong
You can clear every SAS paper and still fail the part.
Commonly published instead: Most pages state the 45% subject minimum and stop, implying that 45% in each paper is a pass.
The Finance Department rule is 45% in each subject and 50% in the aggregate. A candidate at 46-49% across the board clears every paper and fails the part. The calculator below flags that case explicitly.
Three numbers decide an SAS result: 45, 50 and 60. Everyone quotes them. Fewer pages explain how they interact — and two further rules, on attempts and debarment, are stated differently by different sources. This page applies the rules that are agreed and reports the ones that are not.

How the three numbers work together
- 45% per subject is a floor. Fall below it in any one paper and the part is not passed, whatever your total.
- 50% aggregate is a second, separate test. On Part I that means 300 of 600 marks.
- 60% in a subject earns an exemption: you do not have to sit that paper again even if you fail the part. This is how most working candidates clear SAS — they bank papers over several sittings.
- Below 20% aggregate triggers debarment. How long for is disputed (see below).
One inference to be aware of: the Finance Department letter says "aggregate of all the subjects". Applying the 50% per part, as everyone does, is the natural reading — but it is a reading.

Example 1: one weak paper sinks the part, one strong paper is banked

The aggregate is comfortably above 50%, but one paper at 44% fails the part. Civil Services Rules at 63.3% is banked: next time, this candidate sits four papers, not five.

Five passes, one fail. Six more marks anywhere would have passed the part. And because no paper reached 60%, nothing is banked — this candidate starts the next sitting from scratch.
The two rules sources disagree on
Unresolved: How many attempts are allowed?
- Finance Department letter No. 14/30/2021-IFA (16.07.2021): "There is no limit on chances" for in-service candidates.
- One coaching site: 6 attempts in all, of which at most 4 for Part I. It cites no order.
- For direct-recruit Section Officers the 2022 service rules are explicit: two attempts at each part, plus one on compassionate grounds, after which services are dispensed with.
Our position: For serving employees we treat the Finance Department letter as the better source, but it reaches us only as a copy forwarded by another department, so check your cycle’s notice.
Unresolved: How long does a below-20% debarment last?
- Finance Department letter 2021: debarred for two years.
- Coaching site: debarred for the next two chances.
Our position: Two years and two chances differ whenever the exam is not held every year — which, with postponements, it often is not.
Results — where they are published
HSAS results are issued as orders by the Finance / Treasuries & Accounts Department and posted on the SAS Related Instructions page. They are frequently corrected afterwards: the Part I 2025 result (exam held 11-15 January 2025) was published on 27 March 2025 and then followed by revised results and corrigenda on 27 March, 3 April, 19 June and 26 September 2025. A further order on Part I results was issued on 10 August 2026. If your result looks wrong, check for a later corrigendum before anything else.

What are the pass marks in the Haryana SAS exam?
At least 45% in each subject and at least 50% in the aggregate. For Part I that means 300 of 600 marks overall, with no paper below 45%.
What is the 60% exemption rule in SAS?
A candidate who scores 60% or more in a subject does not have to reappear in that subject, even if the part as a whole is not passed. Candidates use this to bank papers over several sittings.
Can I pass every paper and still fail SAS Part I?
Yes. If every paper is at 45% or more but the aggregate is below 50%, the part is not passed. For example, 294 out of 600 with every paper at 46-56% fails on the aggregate.
How many attempts are allowed in the Haryana SAS exam?
Sources disagree. The Finance Department letter of 16 July 2021 says there is no limit on chances for serving employees; a coaching site claims six attempts with four for Part I. Direct-recruit Section Officers get two attempts at each part under the 2022 service rules.
What happens if I score below 20% in SAS?
A candidate below 20% in the aggregate is debarred. The Finance Department letter says for two years; a coaching source says for the next two chances.
Where is the HSAS Part 1 result published?
As orders on the Treasuries and Accounts Department’s SAS Related Instructions page on hrtreasuries.gov.in. Check for corrigenda after the first result — the 2025 Part I result was revised and corrected several times.
