Checked 25 September 2026. From the 2026 information brochure and eligibility conditions. Eligibility can change with each notification; the brochure of the year you apply governs.
TG CPGET has 44 separate tests, and a degree makes you eligible for some of them and not others. The rules sit in the brochure's course-by-course eligibility tables and a set of cross-cutting conditions. This guide turns them into a map: pick your degree and see which tests — and which courses — it opens.
A B.Tech does not make you eligible for M.Sc Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science through CPGET.
- The 2026 brochure says B.E./B.Tech graduates are not eligible for M.Sc courses, with named exceptions: Geo-Informatics and Food Science and Technology. M.Sc Computer Science and M.Sc Mathematics say explicitly that B.E. and B.Tech are not eligible. An engineering graduate can still write the any-graduation tests — M.Com, M.A. English, Economics and the rest.

The general rules
Conditions that apply to every test
- Pass the qualifying degree with at least 40% (or equivalent CGPA); SC and ST candidates need only a pass. Compartmental passes are eligible.
- A degree with a single subject through open or distance mode is not eligible.
- If you have already completed a PG course, you cannot be admitted to that same course again, even in another specialisation.
- B.Pharm, B.Sc (MLT), nursing, agriculture, home science and B.E./B.Tech graduates are not eligible for M.Sc courses — except where a course names them (below).
- The exception to the 40% rule: M.Ed and M.P.Ed need a B.Ed or B.P.Ed with 55% (50% for SC, ST and BC).

M.A. Psychology is open to any graduate; M.Sc Psychology, offered at KU, is open to B.A. graduates who studied Psychology and to any B.Sc graduate. BCESFSFTG&M is test 72, the combined test for M.Sc Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, Fermentation Technology, Genetics and Microbiology.
Every degree above also opens the any-graduation tests: English, Telugu, Economics, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Journalism, MLISc, MSW, M.A. Psychology, Philosophy, Linguistics, AIHCA, Islamic Studies and M.Com (plus MHRM at KU and TU, and MTM at KU). Language tests (Hindi, Urdu, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, Marathi) need that language in the degree. The table is our reading of the 2026 brochure's course tables; where a row depends on the exact subjects in your degree, the brochure's wording decides.

Which TG CPGET tests does your degree open?
The chooser applies the 2026 brochure. It does not check subject credits: most M.Sc tests require the subject as an optional carrying at least 24 credits (four papers of 100 marks), which a three-subject B.Sc normally satisfies.

Five eligibility mistakes to avoid
- Counting a subject you did not take as an optional. Most M.Sc tests want the subject as a degree optional with at least 24 credits (four papers of 100 marks); a subject studied as a single paper does not count.
- Assuming a professional degree carries over. B.Pharm, nursing, agriculture, home science, B.Sc (MLT) and B.E./B.Tech are excluded from M.Sc courses except where a course names them.
- Applying for a course you have already completed. You cannot be admitted to it again, even in a different specialisation.
- Relying on a single-subject distance degree. The brochure makes it ineligible.
- Missing the 40%. OC, BC and EWS candidates need 40% in the qualifying degree; SC and ST candidates need only a pass.

Courses that surprise people
| Course | Surprise |
|---|---|
| M.Sc Forensic Science, Biochemistry | Open to Physics + Chemistry graduates through test 72 — write Part B in Physics |
| M.Sc Geo-Informatics | Open to B.Sc, B.A. with Geography, B.E., B.Tech and BCA graduates alike |
| M.Sc Biotechnology | Open to agriculture, veterinary, pharmacy and fisheries graduates |
| M.Sc Geography | Open to any B.Sc graduate, not only those who studied Geography |
| MLISc | Any graduate; Part B is general knowledge and current affairs |
| Five-year integrated courses | No longer in CPGET from 2026 — admitted through DOST (reported) |
Six 2026 tests were not held because applications were fewer than seats: Arabic, Sericulture, Theatre Arts, Marathi, Persian and Electronics (reported). The brochure allows a test to be dropped this way for courses offered at a single college.
Practise it, don't just read it
Once you know your tests, practise them: the library covers ten of the most-written CPGET subjects.
The ProSyllabus TS CPGET library has topic quizzes for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Commerce, Economics, English, History, Political Science and Sociology. Each question comes with an explanation.
Can B.Tech students write TS CPGET?
Yes, but only for some courses. B.E./B.Tech graduates are eligible for M.Sc Geo-Informatics and Food Science and Technology and for the any-graduation tests such as M.Com and M.A. English, but not for other M.Sc courses such as Mathematics or Computer Science.
Is BCA eligible for M.Sc Computer Science in TS CPGET?
Yes. The 2026 brochure names BCA as eligible for the Computer Science test, alongside B.Sc graduates with Mathematics and Computer Science or Computer Applications.
What is the minimum percentage for TS CPGET?
At least 40% in the qualifying degree (or equivalent CGPA) for OC, BC and EWS candidates; a pass for SC and ST candidates.
Can a B.Sc MLT graduate write TS CPGET?
Yes, for M.Sc Biochemistry and Microbiology through the combined test 72, and for the any-graduation tests. B.Sc (MLT) is otherwise excluded from M.Sc courses.
Can a B.Com student apply for M.A. English in TS CPGET?
Yes. M.A. English is open to any graduate.
How many tests can I write in TS CPGET?
More than one: the first test costs ₹800 (₹600 for SC, ST and PH) and each additional test ₹450. Check the timetable for clashes before adding a test.
Which test do I write for M.Sc Microbiology?
The combined test 72 (BCESFSFTG&M): Part A Chemistry (40 marks) and Part B one optional from your degree (60 marks).
Can a B.Sc Physics student write the CPGET for M.Sc Biochemistry?
A graduate with Physics and Chemistry is eligible for M.Sc Biochemistry and Forensic Science through test 72, writing Part A in Chemistry and Part B in Physics.
Which universities take part in TS CPGET?
Nine in 2026: Osmania, Kakatiya, Telangana, Mahatma Gandhi, Palamuru, Satavahana, JNTU Hyderabad, Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women's University and Dr. Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University, Kothagudem.
Can a B.Sc Maths, Statistics, Computer Science graduate write M.Sc Data Science?
Yes. The 2026 brochure opens the Data Science test to B.Sc graduates with Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (or Data Science). The same degree also opens Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science.
Can a B.A. graduate write M.Sc Geography in TS CPGET?
Yes, if Geography was a subject in the B.A. The Geography test is also open to any B.Sc graduate, and Geo-Informatics to B.A. graduates with Geography.
Are integrated PG courses still admitted through CPGET?
Not from 2026. The integrated UG–PG programmes are admitted through DOST (reported by Telangana Today); CPGET 2026 had no integrated tests.
