Checked 25 September 2026. Blueprint, timing and books from Prometric's Kuwait references PDF. The week plan and hour split are our suggestion.
Prometric's Kuwait blueprint is unusually detailed: it gives the question count for each of 18 sub-sections, from 17 maternity-nursing questions down to 3 on gynaecology. That makes a plan straightforward — spend time where the questions are. This eight-week plan does that, keeps two timed mocks, and uses the book list Prometric publishes.
Prometric Kuwait PDF; our plan.
How the hours are split
Our split: the four sections at slightly under their blueprint weights (40/30/20/10), with a tenth kept for timed mocks.
Kuwait RN exam hours planner
Choose your likely exam day and how many hours a week you can study. The planner counts the weeks left from today and splits your total hours across the paper.
The exam is booked through Prometric, so these dates are examples; pick the one nearest your booking.
The eight weeks
| Week | Focus | Blueprint |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Timed 50-question baseline; medical nursing (15) — cardiac, respiratory, endocrine | Adult |
| 2 | Surgical nursing (15) and critical care nursing (11) | Adult |
| 3 | Community nursing (12) and mental / psychiatric nursing (7) | Adult |
| 4 | Maternity nursing (17), gynaecology (3); first full 150-question mock | Maternal-child |
| 5 | Paediatric medical (12), paediatric surgical (7), neonatal nursing (6) | Maternal-child |
| 6 | Fundamentals (12), physical assessment (9), pharmacology (6), nutrition (3) | Fundamentals |
| 7 | Quality and safety (6), resources, teams, informatics (3 each); weak areas | Management |
| 8 | Second full mock; revise the weakest sub-sections; logistics | All |
Our plan. Adult Nursing comes first because it is 40% of the paper; community and mental-health nursing get their own week because they are 19 questions candidates often skip. With fewer than eight weeks, keep the order and shorten each block, but keep both timed mocks — they are the only rehearsal of 150 questions in 170 minutes.

High-yield topics within the big sub-sections
| Sub-section (questions) | Topics to know well (our list) |
|---|---|
| Maternity nursing (17) | Antenatal assessment, labour stages and monitoring, postpartum haemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, breastfeeding |
| Medical nursing (15) | Heart failure, MI, diabetes and its emergencies, COPD and asthma, renal failure, stroke |
| Surgical nursing (15) | Pre- and post-operative care, wound care, fluid and electrolyte balance, drains and tubes, pain management |
| Community nursing (12) | Immunisation, screening, health promotion, communicable disease control, home care |
| Pediatric medical (12) | Growth and development, dehydration, respiratory infections, childhood immunisation, paediatric dosing |
| Critical care nursing (11) | ABCDE assessment, shock, ventilated patients, arterial blood gases, resuscitation |
Sub-sections and counts are Prometric's; the topic lists are our suggestion from standard nursing curricula and the books Prometric lists, not an official breakdown.
Calculations to drill
| Type | Where it appears |
|---|---|
| Oral and injectable dose calculation | Pharmacology; medical and surgical scenarios |
| IV infusion rates (mL/h and drops/min) | Surgical and critical care |
| Paediatric doses by weight | Pediatric medical and surgical |
| Fluid balance (intake and output) | Medical, surgical, critical care |
Standard nursing calculations, mapped by us; Prometric does not publish which appear. Five a day from week 1 keeps them quick.
Getting the most from the two mocks
| Why you got it wrong | What to do |
|---|---|
| Did not know it | Add it to next week's reading in the section's core book |
| Knew it, chose a plausible but lower-priority action | Practise prioritisation: airway, breathing, circulation; safety first |
| Calculation slip | Redo it; five similar ones the next day |
| Ran out of time | Practise 50-question sets to the pacing below |
Our method. Sit each mock as the real thing — 150 questions in 160 minutes of testing with a 10-minute break (the stricter reading of the PDF) — and spend as long reviewing as sitting.
If you are working shifts
Most candidates prepare while working, often on rotating shifts. Twenty hours a week can be three hours on each of four days off and shorter sessions after day shifts; a night shift is a poor time for new material but fine for flashcards and calculation drills. Use your ward: the conditions you nursed this week are the easiest to read up on the same day, and they stick. Keep the order of the plan even if the weeks stretch — Adult Nursing first — and keep both mocks.
Do not skip the 15 management questions
Nursing Management and Leadership is only 10% of the paper, but 15 questions is as many as surgical nursing. Its four sub-sections — resources and coordination, quality and safety at the frontline, teams and interprofessional relations, and informatics — reward a short, focused read of Marquis & Huston and a quality-and-safety text, and they are the questions most often answered on instinct. A week-7 block on them is one of the cheapest gains in the plan.
Which books for which section
| Section | Start with | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Adult Nursing | Brunner & Suddarth's Medical-Surgical Nursing (14th) | Urden or Morton for critical care; a community-health text; Videbeck for psychiatric nursing |
| Maternal-Child | Wong's Essentials of Pediatric Nursing (9th); Ricci's Maternity, Newborn and Women's Health (5th) | Murray & McKinney for maternal-newborn depth |
| Fundamentals | Kozier & Erb's Fundamentals (10th) or Timby | Bates' physical examination guide; the nursing pharmacology and nutrition texts |
| Management | Marquis & Huston, Leadership Roles and Management Functions (10th) | Quality and Safety in Nursing; Informatics and Nursing |
Titles from Prometric's list; the "start with / then" order is our suggestion. You do not need every book: one core text per section plus practice questions is enough for most candidates.
Pacing on the day
| Checkpoint | Target time |
|---|---|
| Question 50 | About 53 min of testing |
| Question 75 (around the break) | About 80 min of testing |
| Question 100 | About 107 min of testing |
| Question 150 | 160 min of testing |
Our pacing at 64 seconds a question. The PDF says "170 Minutes with 10 minutes break in between" without saying whether the break is inside the 170; if it is, you have 160 minutes of testing, which is what this table assumes; if not, the extra 10 minutes is margin. Check at your centre.
In the final week, add nothing new. Re-read your mock error list, do one or two timed 50-question sets, and settle the practical side: your Prometric booking, your ID matching the booking, and the centre's arrival time. Remember that attempts must be at least six weeks apart — a failed first sitting means a six-week gap before the next.
Mistakes that cost marks
- Studying from a 55% or "70–100 question" guide. The official RN exam is 150 questions at 60%.
- Skipping community and mental-health nursing. Together they are 19 questions inside Adult Nursing.
- Treating management as optional. 15 questions — as many as surgical nursing.
- Rebooking too soon. Attempts must be at least six weeks apart, and there are three.
Practise it, don't just read it
Weeks 1–3 are Adult Nursing. The medical-surgical and critical-care quizzes are the quickest check.
The ProSyllabus Kuwait MOH nursing library has topic quizzes for Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing: Cardiovascular and Respiratory, Medical-Surgical Nursing: Renal, Endocrine and Gastrointestinal, Pharmacology for Nurses, Maternal and Child Health Nursing, Critical Care and Emergency Nursing, Infection Prevention and Control and Professional Practice, Ethics and Kuwait Health Regulations. Each question comes with an explanation.
How should I prepare for the Kuwait nursing exam?
Follow Prometric's RN blueprint — Adult 60, Maternal-Child 45, Fundamentals 30, Management 15 questions — with one core book per section and at least two timed 150-question mocks.
Which books are recommended for the Kuwait nursing exam?
Prometric lists Brunner & Suddarth, Lewis, Kozier & Erb, Timby, Wong's paediatric texts, Ricci and Murray & McKinney for maternity, critical-care and community-health texts, and management books such as Marquis & Huston.
How long should I prepare for the Kuwait nursing exam?
Prometric gives no figure. About eight weeks at 20 hours a week covers the blueprint for a working nurse; allow longer if you have been away from practice.
Should I study critical care separately?
It is 11 questions inside Adult Nursing, so study it with medical and surgical nursing in week 2 using a critical-care text such as Urden or Morton.
When should I book the Kuwait nursing exam?
When your second timed mock is comfortably above 60%. Attempts must be at least six weeks apart, so an unprepared first sitting costs six weeks.
How many mock tests should I take for the Kuwait nursing exam?
At least two full-length timed mocks of 150 questions — in this plan at weeks 4 and 8 — with as long spent reviewing as sitting.
Which topics are most important for the Kuwait nursing exam?
By question count: medical and surgical nursing (15 each), maternity nursing (17), community and paediatric medical nursing (12 each) and critical care nursing (11).
Are Indian nursing textbooks enough for the Kuwait exam?
Prometric lists no Indian textbook; its list is international texts such as Brunner & Suddarth and Wong's. Indian books cover much of the content, but the exam's questions follow international practice, so use at least one listed core text per section.
How much time do I get per question in the Kuwait nursing exam?
About 64 to 68 seconds: the PDF gives "170 Minutes with 10 minutes break in between", and does not say whether the break is inside the 170.
