Checked 26 September 2026. From NIC’s CCMT 2025 and 2026 opening/closing score data and the 2026 seat mapping, and IIT Madras, IIT Bombay and IIT Palakkad cut-off documents. “Core-IN” is our programme-name filter; “lowest closing in any round” is our aggregation. 2027 closing scores will differ.
For a GATE IN candidate the M.Tech map is wider than it looks: 221 programme-groups in CCMT’s 2026 seat mapping list IN among their accepted papers (our count: 221 of the 842 institute–programme–group entries in the official CCMT 2026 seat-mapping data, as downloaded on 26 September 2026, list GATE paper IN), from core instrumentation and control to biomedical, robotics and even VLSI. CCMT ranks on the GATE score, not the paper, so an IN candidate competes on the same list as EC and EE candidates in shared groups — and four groups admit IN alone. This guide gathers the 2025 and 2026 closing scores for the programmes built around instrumentation and control, and the IIT figures that include IN.

NIC CCMT 2025 and 2026 closing GATE scores, Group 1 unless stated: Round-1 closing / lowest closing in any round (our aggregation). “–” = no allotment in that category. A selection — the tool below has all 45 core-IN programme-groups with an OPEN Round-1 close.
Which core instrumentation/control M.Tech programmes did your score clear in CCMT 2026?
Enter a GATE score (out of 1000) and your category. The check compares it with the lowest CCMT 2026 closing score in any round for the 45 core instrumentation, control, automation, sensor and biomedical programme-groups that admit GATE IN and had an OPEN Round-1 close (of 47 such groups among the 221 that list IN; the other two allotted only reserved-category seats).
NIC’s CCMT 2026 opening and closing GATE scores, Group 1; “core-IN” (instrumentation, control, automation, sensors, mechatronics, robotics, NDT, biomedical, IoT…) is our name filter over the programme-groups whose 2026 seat mapping lists GATE IN and “lowest closing in any round” is our aggregation — later rounds cover only candidates still in the process. A blank means no seat was allotted in that category. 2027 closing scores will differ.
The core-IN ladder is lower than the VLSI one: the highest core-IN Round-1 close in 2026 was 597 (NIT Rourkela Electronics & Instrumentation), while shared VLSI groups that also list IN closed above 700 (table below). The top core-IN programmes did not all rise from 2025 — NIT Warangal Control & Automation fell from 574 to 499 in Round 1, and NIT Surathkal Mechatronics from 508 to 481 — while NIT Rourkela E&I rose from 534 to 597. The three core IN-only groups (NIT Trichy Industrial Automation, NIT Warangal Control & Automation Group 4, NIT Calicut Instrumentation & Control Systems Group 2) are ranked among IN candidates alone; the seat mapping also lists one non-core IN-only group, Central University of Jammu’s Electronics and Communication Engineering Group 4.

NIC CCMT 2026 closing scores and seat mapping. In these groups IN candidates compete on score with EC, EE and CS candidates.
Our aggregation of NIC’s CCMT data for 47 core-IN programme-groups, of which 45 had an OPEN allotment in 2026 (n per category is the number with an allotment; name filter: instrumentation, control, automation, sensor, measurement, mechatronics, robotics, NDT, biomedical, medical devices, IoT/drones, cyber-physical, autonomous).

| 25.6 / 59.31 | 39.8 / 79.87 | Qualifying mark / M̄t |
| about 31.7 | about 47.1 | Score 450 in marks (our conversion) |
| about 26.2 | about 40.5 | Score 360 in marks (our conversion) |
GATE 2025 and 2026 statistical reports; conversions ours with score = 350 + 550 × (marks − qualifying mark) ÷ (M̄t − qualifying mark).
An OPEN score of about 450 cleared Round 1 at roughly half the core-IN programmes in 2026, and about 360 cleared the last round at half. In GATE IN marks that is about 47 and 40.5 on the 2026 paper, but only about 32 and 26 on the hard 2025 paper. Because CCMT accepts scores from GATE 2024, 2025 and 2026, a 2025 IN score competes directly with a 2026 one — the year you sat matters as much as your marks.

| Institute | Published figure |
|---|---|
| IIT Bombay — Electrical Engineering EE2, EE3, EE5, EE6, EE7 (IN among accepted papers) | Minimum to be considered: GN/EWS 510 · OBC-NC 459 · SC/ST 340 (2026-27) |
| IIT Bombay — Systems & Control Engineering (AE, IN, EE, ME, EC, CH, DA, MA) | Minimum: 500 · 450 · 333 |
| IIT Bombay — Aerospace AE2 (EC/EE/IN) | Minimum: 700 · 630 · 467 |
| IIT Palakkad — System-on-Chip Design (EE/EC/IN/CS), COAP 2026-27 | GEN, IN paper: 632 (EC 690, CS 577, EE 494) |
IIT Bombay minimum GATE cut-off 2026-27 (a floor for shortlisting, not a closing score); IIT Palakkad COAP cut-offs AY 2026-27. IIT Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Roorkee, Guwahati and Hyderabad IN-paper figures were not collected.
At IIT Madras, IN candidates are eligible for the Electrical department’s instrumentation, RF, IC and control streams and for two interdisciplinary programmes; the control stream (EE7, 718 GEN) and RF (EE5, 723) are the most accessible, and ICs (EE6, 901) the hardest. IIT Palakkad is the rare institute that prints a separate cut-off for each GATE paper — 632 for IN against 690 for EC in the same programme — which shows why a paper-blind score list does not always mean paper-blind selection.
Practise it, don't just read it
A 50-point swing in score is about three to four IN marks at 2026 values. Most core-IN programmes are control and instrumentation M.Techs, and the library’s PID and compensator design, process control, control systems and measurement quizzes are the matching practice.
The ProSyllabus GATE IN library has topic quizzes on measurements, control systems, analytical and optical instrumentation, process control, signal conditioning, ADCs, transducers, op-amps, PID control and signals — the first quiz is free.
What GATE IN score is needed for NIT M.Tech in instrumentation?
In CCMT 2026 core-IN Round-1 OPEN closes ranged up to 597 (NIT Rourkela E&I); the median was 451 and the median lowest close 364.
Which M.Tech programmes admit only GATE IN?
In the CCMT 2026 seat mapping: NIT Trichy Industrial Automation, NIT Warangal Control & Automation (Group 4), NIT Calicut Instrumentation & Control Systems (Group 2) and Central University of Jammu Electronics and Communication Engineering (Group 4).
What was the NIT Trichy Process Control & Instrumentation cut-off 2026?
OPEN Round-1 481, lowest close 408.
Can I get IIT Madras M.Tech with GATE IN?
Yes — EE4, EE5, EE6 and EE7 admit IN; 2026 GEN (with HTTA) closes were 851, 723, 901 and 718.
What is the IIT Bombay minimum GATE score for Systems & Control?
500 for GN/EWS in 2026-27 — a minimum, not a closing score.
Which GATE years does CCMT accept?
GATE 2024, 2025 or 2026 in CCMT 2026.
