GATE 2027 is organized by IIT Madras, whose official notification and brochure was released on 20 July 2026 at the gate2027.iitm.ac.in portal. Instrumentation Engineering (IN) is one of 30 papers, held as a computer-based test on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027.

GOAPS registration for GATE 2027, originally planned for 14 August 2026, was postponed and opened on 27 August 2026 instead. The regular deadline without late fee is 27 September 2026, with a late-fee window until 5 October 2026; DigiLocker registration and live facial verification are now mandatory.

The revised GATE Instrumentation Engineering (IN) syllabus now runs across ten technical sections. The paper stays a 65-question, 180-minute, 100-mark test (MCQs, MSQs and NATs, negative marking only on MCQs), split roughly into General Aptitude (15 marks), Engineering Mathematics (about 13 marks) and core Instrumentation topics (about 72 marks).

IIT Madras has not yet assigned the IN paper a specific date or session within the six exam days; this is expected to be confirmed only when admit cards are released. GATE 2027 results are scheduled for 19 March 2027, per the official portal.

GATE 2027 has not been officially notified yet. IIT Madras is expected to be the organising institute, with the notification projected for late July 2026, the GOAPS application window around 24 August to 13 October 2026, and the exam expected on 6, 7, 13 and 14 February 2027. All these dates remain tentative.

IIT Guwahati declared the GATE 2026 result on 19 March 2026 with paper-wise qualifying marks. Instrumentation Engineering (IN) was one of the tougher cut-offs at 39.8 marks for General, 35.8 for OBC-NCL/EWS and 26.5 for SC/ST/PwD, so GATE 2027 aspirants should target well above 40.

No syllabus change has been announced for GATE 2027, so the GATE 2026 IN syllabus stays the working reference. The paper is a three-hour computer-based test of 100 marks: General Aptitude 15, Engineering Mathematics 13 and core Instrumentation topics 72, using MCQ, MSQ and NAT questions with negative marking only on MCQs.

Instrumentation is an accepted discipline for PSU hiring through GATE. NPCIL confirmed it uses GATE 2026 scores for Instrumentation (IN) among other branches and advertised 330 Executive Trainee posts with applications from 10 to 30 April 2026; over 30 PSUs including NTPC, ONGC and IOCL shortlist candidates on GATE scores.

A GATE score stays valid for three years from the announcement of results, so a GATE 2026 score declared on 19 March 2026 remains usable until March 2029 for M.Tech and PhD admissions and PSU recruitment. The official GATE 2027 brochure and GOAPS link will appear on the IIT Madras GATE portal.
