Examen VTC et Taxi (T3P) — France Articles & Updates
In France, the professions of taxi driver and VTC driver (voiture de transport avec chauffeur), together with motorcycle taxi (VMDTR), are part of the T3P sector, and entry to each requires passing a professional aptitude exam. Since the "Grandguillaume" law of 29 December 2016, the exam is organised by the network of chambres de métiers et de l'artisanat (CMA); CMA France sets the national calendar of eleven written sessions a year and the national papers, while the local taxi paper is set by the regional CMA. The exam has two stages. The written admissibility stage, made of multiple-choice (QCM) and short-answer (QRC) questions, has a common core of five papers: A, T3P regulation and the prevention of discrimination and sexual and sexist violence (45 min, coefficient 3); B, management (45 min, coefficient 2); C, road safety (30 min, coefficient 3); D, French (30 min, coefficient 2); and E, English (30 min, coefficient 1). Taxi candidates add F(T), knowledge of the local area and local regulation (20 min), and G(T), national taxi regulation (30 min); VTC candidates add F(V), commercial development (30 min), and G(V), national VTC regulation (20 min); each specific paper has coefficient 3. A mark below 6/20 (4/20 in English) is eliminatory, and a candidate is admissible with a weighted average of at least 10/20 over the seven papers. The admission stage is a practical test: a professional role-play in which the candidate drives a passenger trip and the jury plays the client, lasting at most 45 minutes with at least 20 minutes of driving, passed at 12/20 or more. A failed candidate may sit the practical twice more within one year of the written results. A candidate admissible in one profession may, within three years, take only the two specific papers of another.
