URATPG Merit List Calculator: How the 70/30 Score and Cut-Offs Work

Checked 29 September 2026. Formula from the URATPG-2026 bulletin and dates; weightage from Ordinance 81-III in the 2026-27 prospectus. Closing scores are read from the 2026 first lists (23 Sep 2026) and archived 2023 lists; later 2026 lists will close lower. LL.M. call bands from the Law counselling notices of 25 and 28 Sep 2026.

Clearing URATPG is not a pass mark — there is none. What decides admission is a merit score each department builds from two numbers: 70% of your test score and 30% of your graduation percentage, plus any weightage you can claim for sport, NSS or NCC. Departments then fill their seats down that list, category by category. The university publishes no cut-offs, which is why "URATPG cut off" is one of the most searched and worst-answered questions about the exam. This guide shows the formula with a calculator and, as the nearest thing to a cut-off, the closing scores of five department first lists from 2026 and the same five from 2023, read from the lists themselves.

The formula

The 2026 important-dates notice states it directly: merit is "70% weightage of written examination of entrance test of URATPG + 30% weightage of marks obtained in graduation … and weightage (if any) as given in the Prospectus." Ordinance 81-III adds the order of operations: "The weightage (Sports, NSS, NCC etc) should be added in the U.G. % and then the 30% should be calculated." Put together:

Merit score = 0.7 × test score (out of 100) + 0.3 × (graduation % + weightage)
Programme groupHow merit is built
Most PG departments70% test + 30% graduation (+ weightage)
Faculty of Law PG (LL.M., LL.M. HR&VE, law PG diplomas)URATPG Law marks plus weightage — the 2026 LL.M. counselling notices rank on "Total Marks (Entrance Exam + Weightage)" out of 100, with no graduation component; admission by counselling (LL.M. 28–29 Sep, LL.M. HR&VE 30 Sep in 2026; diploma dates notified separately)
Drawing & Painting70% test + 30% qualifying marks + a 30-mark practical by the department
M.A. International Relations & Area StudiesEntrance test (70) + academic record (30% weightage), in a test subject such as Political Science or History (eligibility extract)
DramaticsTest, plus an audition and viva (1 Sep 2026, per the department notice); how the two combine is not published

From the URATPG-2026 bulletin (entrance test details (ii), Phase II (vi)), the Phase-I dates notice, the eligibility extract, the 2026 Dramatics notice and the Department of Law's LL.M. counselling notices of 25 and 28 September 2026.

LL.M. counselling 2026Marks bands called (entrance exam + weightage, out of 100)

These are the bands of marks CALLED to counselling, not closing scores — the notice itself says more candidates are called than there are seats, and a candidate who misses the reporting slot gets no second chance. Reserved-category candidates not seated in the unreserved round are seated in their own category the same day. LL.M. (General) SFS seats were offered on 29 September, on merit, to called candidates not yet admitted.

URATPG merit score calculator

Enter a test score (out of 100), your graduation percentage and any weightage you can claim. The calculator applies the formula the university states for 2026 and shows what each part contributes.

Formula from the URATPG-2026 important dates and bulletin: 70% weightage of the test + 30% weightage of graduation marks, with Ordinance 81-III weightage added to the graduation percentage before the 30% is taken. Law PG ranks on the test plus weightage, with no graduation component (2026 LL.M. counselling notices); how the weightage is combined is not printed, so the calculator shows the test score alone for Law. The practical for Drawing & Painting is out of 30 and added on top, so that score is out of 130. The ordinance states no cap on graduation % plus weightage; the calculator applies none. The university publishes no cut-off; departments decide admissions on their own lists.

What the weights mean in practice

Because the test carries 0.7 and graduation 0.3, one extra correct answer is worth as much as 2.3 percentage points of graduation marks. A student with 60% in graduation who scores 70 in the test (merit 67) beats one with 75% who scores 62 (merit 65.9). Your graduation percentage is already fixed by the time you apply; the test is the only number you can still move. That is the whole strategic case for preparing seriously rather than relying on your degree.

Test score needed for a merit score of 65, by graduation %
Graduation 55%≈ 69.3 / 100
Graduation 60%≈ 67.1 / 100
Graduation 65%65 / 100
Graduation 70%≈ 62.9 / 100
Graduation 75%≈ 60.7 / 100
Graduation 80%≈ 58.6 / 100

Our arithmetic on the official formula, with no weightage: test = (65 − 0.3 × graduation %) ÷ 0.7.

Ten points of graduation percentage move the test score you need by only about 4.3 marks. A candidate with a modest degree is never out of the race if the test goes well.

Weightage: who gets extra points

Activity (during graduation)Weightage
Sports — represented the university at All-India inter-university level, or placed 1st–3rd in zonal inter-university7%
Sports — represented the university in inter-university (zone) tournaments5%
Sports — position in inter-college tournaments of the University Sports Board4%
Sports — represented your college at inter-collegiate level2%
NSS — 240 hours in two years + a national-level camp (4%), state/mega camp (3%), special camp (2.5%), or 240 hours alone (2%)2–4%
NSS — 120 hours + a special camp (1.5%), and lower tiers (1%)1–1.5%
NCC — top tier (e.g. RD camp, 'C' certificate with grading as listed; +1% for the top grade)5% (+1%)
NCC — second tier3%
Scouts/Guides/Rovers/Rangers; mountaineering (by level)1–5%
Military or paramilitary personnel or their wards (after verification)5%

Condensed from Ordinance 81-III in the 2026-27 prospectus; the full clauses list every qualifying event. Only one clause can be claimed; weightage counts only if you already meet the programme's minimum percentage; for PG only achievements during graduation count; sports certificates count only if you played at least once in the preceding two years; and claims of 5% or more in sport need a skill test at the University Sports Board. National representation (sports, NSS award, NCC) can bring outright admission instead.

A 5% NCC weightage adds 0.3 × 5 = 1.5 merit points — the same as about two extra correct answers. Useful, not decisive; and the certificate must be with the Phase II form, because the ordinance says certificates "shall not be entertained subsequently".

The nearest thing to a cut-off: 2026 first lists

The university put up 55 URATPG-2026 first merit and admission lists on 23–24 September 2026, one per programme, on its official merit-lists page (the M.A. History PG diploma list was revised on 24 September). Most are scanned department lists. We read the five programmes we also have from 2023 — Chemistry, Zoology, English, Botany and Geology — from the page images. The figure below is the lowest score on each 2026 General (unreserved) first list.

2026 first list: last General (unreserved) merit score

M.Sc. Geology (5 called)54.55

Last (lowest) score on each category list of the 2026 FIRST list, as printed ("Final Score" in Chemistry, "Net Score" in Zoology and Botany, "Percentage" in English, "Merit list" in Geology). Entries marked PH, Kashmiri migrant or university ward are left out; English's OBC and MBC lists each end with one PH entry lower than the figure shown (60.47 and 51.87). Chemistry is the regular-seat list. Geology called 14 candidates for its seats and printed one ST seat vacant with no further candidate. These lists do not admit anyone by themselves: document verification ran 24–26 September and fees were due by 27 September, and seats not taken go to later lists at lower scores.

Compared with 2023 (below), the General closing score moved both ways: it rose in Botany by about 7 points (64.57 to 71.81) and in English by about 3 (70.06 to 73.18), and fell in Zoology (70.42 to 65.20), Geology (59.40 to 54.55) and most of all Chemistry (73.97 to 59.86, with 22 General candidates called against 16). A single year's closing score is not a safe target to the decimal. Our arithmetic on the two tables; the 2023 weighting is not confirmed, so read the change as direction, not decimals. For every other programme, open your department's list on the merit-lists page.

For comparison: 2023 first lists

No 2024 or 2025 department lists can still be found online. The 2023 first lists, archived from the old admission site, are the earlier benchmark. We read the same five from the page images. The figure below is the lowest merit score on each first list — the score of the last General candidate called — as each department printed it.

2023 first list: last General (unreserved) merit score

Scores are the last (lowest) on each category list of the FIRST list only, as printed ("Net Score", "Total %", "Percentage" or "Final Merit"). Later lists, which fill seats left by first-list candidates who do not join, went lower (second lists followed on 11–12 September 2023). We could not confirm the 2023 weighting because that year's bulletin is not archived, and the column names differ by department; the 2025 and 2026 documents state 70/30. Treat these as a rough benchmark on a scale that may not match the calculator exactly — not a target to aim at to the decimal.

Three things stand out. Popular programmes close high on the first list — a General candidate needed about 70 in English and Zoology and 74 in Chemistry. Small departments call few people: Geology's first list named only four General candidates. And the reserved lists close well below General, because the rule in the prospectus is that a reserved candidate who ranks above the General closing score is counted in the General list, and departments may go "down to the pass percentage" to fill a reserved quota.

Using the calculator to set a target

  • Enter your graduation percentage and any weightage you will genuinely have certificates for.
  • Pick the 2023 closing score for your programme (or a programme like it) and add a margin of 3–5 points — the applicant pool changes every year.
  • Use the second box to see the test score that target needs, and aim your mocks a few marks above it.
  • If you are in a reserved category, use your category column — but prepare for the General figure, since ranking above it is how you reach the General list.

Practise it, don't just read it

A few extra correct answers move your merit more than anything else still in your control. Subject quizzes are the cheapest way to find them.

How is the URATPG merit list prepared?

Each department ranks applicants on 70% of the URATPG score plus 30% of the graduation percentage, with any Ordinance 81-III weightage added to the graduation percentage first. Law PG programmes rank on the test score plus weightage, with no graduation component.

What is the URATPG cut-off?

The university publishes none. The 2026 first lists (23 Sep 2026) closed for General candidates at 59.863 in M.Sc. Chemistry, 65.20 in M.Sc. Zoology, 73.18 in M.A. English, 71.81 in M.Sc. Botany and 54.55 in M.Sc. Geology; in 2023 the same lists closed at 73.97, 70.42, 70.06, 64.57 and 59.40. A benchmark, not a rule — later lists close lower.

Where is the URATPG 2026 merit list?

On the University of Rajasthan's merit-lists page, uniofraj.org/uratpg-merit-lists, which carried 55 first merit and admission lists published on 23–24 September 2026, one per programme.

Is there a passing mark in URATPG?

No minimum qualifying score is printed in any 2025 or 2026 document. Admission depends on your merit score relative to other applicants.

How much weightage does NCC give in URATPG?

Under Ordinance 81-III, up to 5% (with 1% more for the top grade in specified cases) or 3%, added to the graduation percentage before the 30% is taken. Only one weightage clause can be claimed.

Is graduation percentage important for URATPG?

It counts for 30%. One graduation point is worth 0.3 of merit, while one test mark is worth 0.7 — so the test matters more than twice as much per point.

How is merit calculated for LL.M. at Rajasthan University?

On URATPG Law marks plus weightage, out of 100, with no graduation component: the Department of Law's 2026 counselling notices rank candidates on "Total Marks (Entrance Exam + Weightage)". LL.M. (General) counselling called Unreserved candidates from 93 down to 77 on 28 September, and LL.M. (HR & VE) called 89 down to 71 on 30 September. These are bands called, not cut-offs; the diploma dates were notified separately.

Will I get a message if I am selected?

No. The bulletin says no separate intimation is sent; check the department notice board and uniofraj.org.

How many merit lists does Rajasthan University release for PG?

The 2026 schedule gives only the first list: 55 first lists, one per programme, went up on 23–24 September. In 2023 departments issued second lists around 11–12 September and further or waiting lists later.

What happens in a tie?

The candidate who reached the percentage without weightage ranks higher. No other tie-break is printed.
