Checked 29 September 2026. From the URATPG-2026 bulletin, FAQ, scheme and timetable on uniofraj.org. The 2027 bulletin is not out; the pattern has been the same in 2025 and 2026, but check it when it is.
URATPG — the University of Rajasthan Admission Test for Post Graduate Courses — is how the university's own PG departments in Jaipur admit students to most of their M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, LL.M. and PG diploma programmes. It is a simple paper to describe and an easy one to misread from coaching sites: 100 objective questions, one mark each, two hours, and no negative marking, set on the whole of your subject's undergraduate syllabus. Your score then counts for 70% of the merit that decides admission. This guide sets out the pattern from the university's 2026 documents and corrects the figures that circulate elsewhere.

From the URATPG-2026 bulletin, FAQ, scheme and Phase-I important dates. There is no general-awareness or aptitude section: all 100 questions are from the subject you chose.
Where other pages get this wrong
URATPG is a 100-question, 2-hour subject paper with no negative marking and a single subject per paper.
Commonly published instead: "70 questions in 75 minutes, with a General Awareness section of 10 and a subject section of 60".
The university's 2026 scheme says each test subject has 100 multiple-choice questions of that subject, for 2 hours, and its FAQ says there is no negative marking. There is no general-awareness section in any URATPG document for 2025 or 2026.
The 28 test subjects
| Group | Test subjects (codes) |
|---|---|
| Commerce | ABST (01), Business Administration (04), EAFM (09) |
| Sciences | Botany (03), Chemistry (05), Computer Application (06), Geology (14), Mathematics (20), Physics (22), Statistics (27), Zoology (28), Community and Applied Science — earlier Home Science (17) |
| Social sciences | Anthropology (02), Economics (10), Geography (13), History (16), Political Science (23), Psychology (24), Public Administration (25), Sociology (26) |
| Languages and humanities | English (11), French (12), Hindi (15), Philosophy (21), Library & Information Science (19) |
| Law and arts | Law (18), Dramatics (07), Drawing & Painting (08) |
The list is the same in 2025 and 2026. Grouping is ours; codes are the university's. Sanskrit, Urdu, Music and the Master of Visual Arts are not on it: in 2026-27 those programmes admit on merit without a test, so a Sanskrit or Urdu candidate should not buy a URATPG form for them. Drawing & Painting adds a 30-mark practical set by the department, added on top of the 70/30 score (the merit guide shows the arithmetic), and Dramatics an audition and viva — in 2026 on 1 September at 11:30 am, with two monologues prepared in advance, according to the department's notice and the admissions announcements page.
What "the syllabus" actually means
The FAQ puts it in one sentence: the syllabus of each test subject is "the composite syllabus of the Undergraduate Programme (NEP 2020) of that particular Subject" for Semesters I to VI at the University of Rajasthan. In practice that means every paper of your subject across all three years of the university's own B.A./B.Sc./B.Com, downloadable from its UG syllabus page. The 2025 test was set on the older annual scheme (Part I–III, session 2024-25); 2026 moved to the six-semester NEP scheme. If you studied elsewhere, your own degree will overlap heavily but not exactly — the only reliable checklist is the University of Rajasthan's syllabus for your subject.
How to use the syllabus
- Download the NEP UG syllabus for your subject from uniraj.ac.in (UG syllabi page) and list every unit of Semesters I–VI.
- Mark the units your own degree did not cover — those are where a non-Rajasthan graduate loses marks.
- Expect questions from the first-year papers as well as the last: the test is "composite", not final-year only.
- For commerce, ABST, Business Administration and EAFM are separate test subjects with separate syllabi — pick the one that matches the M.Com you want.
Fees
URATPG-2026 bulletin and FAQ. The 2026-27 prospectus prints ₹650 for one SC/ST subject; the bulletin and FAQ say ₹660.
Each extra subject costs ₹240 (General) — far less than a second attempt a year later, which is why many candidates take two. Fees are paid online (ICICI gateway, with UPI apps accepted in 2026) and are not refunded. Victims of the Jaipur serial bomb blasts are exempt from the fee under Ordinance 81-D. Phase II — the programme application after the result — carries a separate form fee; the prospectus prints ₹165 but does not say whether that is per programme.
Where other pages get this wrong
The 2026 test fee was ₹850, ₹1,090 or ₹1,330 (General) for one, two or three subjects.
Commonly published instead: "₹600 / ₹800 / ₹1,000", "₹700 / ₹900 / ₹1,100" and "₹770 / ₹990 / ₹1,210" on different aggregator pages.
All three sets disagree with the university's own bulletin and FAQ, which print ₹850 / ₹1,090 / ₹1,330 for General and other categories and ₹660 / ₹850 / ₹1,090 for SC/ST.
The exam days in 2026
URATPG-2026 subject-wise timetable. Four sittings a day: 7:30–9:30, 10:30–12:30, 1:30–3:30 and 4:30–6:30.
The 2026 exam moved from the planned 17–22 August to 20–24 August. With 28 papers in 20 sittings, some subjects shared a slot — French, Geology and Community & Applied Science at 7:30 on the first day, for instance, and Botany with Economics on 22 August. If you plan to take three subjects, the timetable is worth checking the moment it is published; the date guide has a clash checker built on the 2026 timetable.
On the day
| Rule | What the university says |
|---|---|
| Admit card | Download from the portal; paste a self-attested recent colour passport photograph |
| ID | Two valid ID proofs, such as Aadhaar, voter ID or driving licence (FAQ); the bulletin asks for a government photo ID |
| Entry | No entry after the paper starts (bulletin); the prospectus says not after ten minutes — plan for the stricter rule |
| Booklet | You may take the question booklet home |
| Blind candidates | Arrange your own amanuensis (qualification up to 10+2) and submit their papers to the centre a day before |
| Centre | Printed on the admit card; no city list is published |
Because you keep the booklet and the answer key appears the same evening, you can calculate your own score within hours — and, with your graduation percentage, your merit score, long before any list appears.
What the questions look like
The university publishes one previous-year sample paper per test subject. In the three we read (English, Physics and Political Science), the booklet is bilingual — Hindi on the left, English on the right — and the questions mix direct concept checks, statement-combination items ("which of i, ii, iii are correct") and, in the sciences, short numericals that a well-prepared student can solve in a minute. The Physics paper opened with first-year mechanics, which is the "composite syllabus" rule in action. No official rule on the medium of the paper exists; language papers are presumably in that language.
| Question type (sample papers) | How to prepare |
|---|---|
| Direct concept or definition | Unit-by-unit notes from the NEP syllabus; quick recall drills |
| Statement combination (i, ii, iii) | Read the reasoning, not just the answer — one wrong statement changes the option |
| Short numerical (sciences, statistics, commerce) | Timed sets from each semester; formulas on one sheet |
| Match or chronology (humanities) | Timelines and author-work lists by semester |
The question types are our reading of the university's sample papers; the preparation column is our advice.
Practise it, don't just read it
With no negative marking, every question should be answered. Timed subject quizzes build the pace — 72 seconds a question — that the paper needs.
The ProSyllabus URATPG library has subject quizzes for English, ABST, EAFM, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Geology, Geography and Philosophy — the first one is free.
Is there negative marking in URATPG?
No. The URATPG-2026 FAQ says "There is NO negative marking", so answer every question.
How many questions are there in URATPG?
100 multiple-choice questions of one mark each per test subject, in 2 hours.
What is the URATPG syllabus?
The composite undergraduate syllabus of your test subject at the University of Rajasthan — for 2026, the NEP 2020 syllabus of Semesters I to VI (session 2025-26).
How many subjects can I choose in URATPG?
Up to three test subjects on one form. The 2026 fee was ₹850, ₹1,090 or ₹1,330 for General and ₹660, ₹850 or ₹1,090 for SC/ST.
Is URATPG in Hindi or English?
The sample booklets are bilingual, Hindi and English side by side. The bulletin states no language rule.
Is there a URATPG exam for M.A. Sanskrit or Urdu?
No. In 2026-27 M.A. Sanskrit, M.A. Urdu, the Music programmes and the Master of Visual Arts admit on merit without a test.
Where can I get URATPG previous year papers?
The university links one sample paper per test subject from its admission site, uniofraj.org.
Can I take the URATPG question paper home?
Yes. The bulletin and FAQ allow candidates to carry the question booklet after the test.
When is the URATPG answer key released?
In 2026, on the day of each paper at 6 pm, with 48 hours to send a grievance with proof.
Is the URATPG fee refundable?
No. The FAQ says no refund is permissible once the fee is paid.
