Checked 13 October 2026. Built on Sverige i fokus (1st edition, corrected version 2026-08-10): its 13 chapters and their page ranges. The page counts and the plan are our arithmetic. UHR has not announced the next test date, so the plan counts days of study, not days to a test; when a date is published, start the plan two to three weeks before it.
Svensk medborgarskap test: what a two-week plan can and cannot promise
People search for “svensk medborgarskap test” and find a test with no date, no announced number of questions and no pass mark. That sounds impossible to plan for. It is not, because the one thing UHR has fixed is the thing a plan needs: the source. The introduction to the study guide says “Provet kommer att baseras på det här materialet”, the test will be based on this material [official: Sverige i fokus, p.4].
So this plan is built on the book and nothing else: 13 chapters on pages 5 to 47. It tells you what to read on each of 14 days and what to do with it. What it cannot do is tell you that two weeks is “enough”. Nobody outside UHR knows how hard the next paper will be, and the Swedish of the guide is the real variable: a reader at ease in Swedish can go faster, a reader who looks up every fifth word should stretch each day into two.
Chapters, page ranges and audio files: official, from the guide and UHR’s study-material page. The page count and the plan are ours.
The book in numbers: pages per chapter
The guide’s table of contents prints only the page on which each chapter starts; we read each chapter as running to the page before the next one starts (the last one ends on p.47). The page ranges, the page counts and the shares are therefore our arithmetic; the guide does not print them. Each share is rounded to a whole per cent, so the column adds up to slightly more than 100. What each chapter contains, sub-heading by sub-heading, is in the topic map, so it is not repeated here.
| Kapitel | In English | Pages in the guide | Page count (ours) | Share of the 43 pages (ours, rounded) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Landet Sverige | The country Sweden | pp.5–9 | 5 | 12% |
| 2. Sveriges demokratiska system | Sweden’s democratic system | pp.10–11 | 2 | 5% |
| 3. Så här styrs Sverige | How Sweden is governed | pp.12–13 | 2 | 5% |
| 4. Politiska val och partier | Elections and parties | pp.14–15 | 2 | 5% |
| 5. Lag och rätt | Law and justice | pp.16–19 | 4 | 9% |
| 6. Mediernas roll | The role of the media | pp.20–21 | 2 | 5% |
| 7. Mänskliga rättigheter | Human rights | pp.22–26 | 5 | 12% |
| 8. Arbetsmarknad och privatekonomi | Labour market and personal finances | pp.27–29 | 3 | 7% |
| 9. Välfärdssamhället | The welfare society | pp.30–31 | 2 | 5% |
| 10. Sveriges moderna historia | Sweden’s modern history | pp.32–38 | 7 | 16% |
| 11. Sverige och omvärlden | Sweden and the world | pp.39–41 | 3 | 7% |
| 12. En sekulär stat och ett mångreligiöst land | A secular state and a country of many religions | pp.42–44 | 3 | 7% |
| 13. Traditioner och högtider | Traditions and holidays | pp.45–47 | 3 | 7% |
Our count of the page ranges in the guide’s table of contents. A long chapter means more to read, not more questions: UHR has published no weighting.
Three things follow for planning. Kapitel 10, modern history, is seven pages and needs a day of its own. Kapitel 1 and 7 are five pages each and are the next heaviest. Nine chapters (2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 13) are two or three pages and pair up naturally. The plan below is simply that observation written out.
Where other pages get this wrong
A long chapter is not an announced “high-weight” chapter.
Commonly published instead: lists of “most important chapters” or percentage weightings for the Swedish citizenship test.
UHR has published no weighting, no past paper and no number of questions; the only sitting so far was a trial test. Page counts tell you how long a chapter takes to read. They say nothing about how many questions it gets [official: UHR; the page counts are ours].
The 14-day plan
Days 1 to 9 are the first pass: every chapter once, in the guide’s own order, 43 pages. Day 10 is a test day. Days 11 to 13 are the second pass, the same 43 pages again at reading speed. Day 14 is the second test day.
| Day | Read | Pages (ours) | Do |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kapitel 1, Landet Sverige | 5 | Read with a map open. Write down the numbers: 25 landskap, 21 län, 290 kommuner, the three largest lakes and cities. |
| 2 | Kapitel 2–3, democracy and how Sweden is governed | 4 | Draw the three levels (stat, region, kommun) and what each decides. |
| 3 | Kapitel 4–5, elections, parties, law and justice | 6 | Who may vote in which election; the four fundamental laws; the three court levels; the steps of a criminal investigation. |
| 4 | Kapitel 6, the media | 2 | A short day on purpose. Afterwards take the first mini test without notes. |
| 5 | Kapitel 7, human rights | 5 | The densest chapter for laws and years. Make one line per law: what it says, whom it protects. |
| 6 | Kapitel 8–9, labour market, personal finances, welfare | 5 | List who pays for what: state, regions, municipalities. Learn the organisation names. |
| 7 | Kapitel 10, modern history | 7 | The longest chapter. Build a timeline from 1809 to today as you read. |
| 8 | Kapitel 11, Sweden and the world | 3 | Add 1905, 1949, 1991, 1995, 2022 and 2024 to the timeline. |
| 9 | Kapitel 12–13, religion, traditions and holidays | 6 | Make a calendar of the holidays with date or weekday. |
| 10 | No new pages: test day one | — | Do the 30 practice questions. Note every chapter where you missed a question. |
| 11 | Second pass, kapitel 1–6 | 17 | Reread, missed chapters first. Listen to the audio for those chapters while following the text. |
| 12 | Second pass, kapitel 7–9 | 10 | Then the five worked rights questions; cover the reasons before you answer. |
| 13 | Second pass, kapitel 10–13 | 16 | Say your timeline and holiday calendar aloud from memory, then check. |
| 14 | No new pages: test day two | — | Redo every question you missed on day 10, then the remaining mini test. Read UHR’s test-day rules. |
Two-week plan with your dates
Choose the day you start. If there is one day of the week you cannot study, choose it and the plan skips it; the 14 study days stay the same and the end date moves.
Our plan and our arithmetic, built on the page ranges in the guide’s table of contents. It does not count down to a test date, because UHR has not announced one.
Check of the arithmetic: days 1 to 9 add up to 43 pages and days 11 to 13 add up to 43 pages, each equal to the guide’s 43 content pages. The heaviest first-pass day is day 7 with 7 pages; the heaviest second-pass day is day 11 with 17 pages, which is rereading.
What to do in one sitting
Reading a page of civics in a second language and understanding it are different things. A sitting that sticks has four parts, and the reading is only the first.
One sitting, four parts
- Read the chapter introduction first. Every chapter of the guide opens with a few lines that begin “Kapitlet handlar om” and say what it is about. They tell you what to look for.
- Read with a pencil. Underline every number, year, name of an authority and every Swedish term you had to look up. Those are the things a four-option question can be built on.
- Close the guide and write five lines from memory, in Swedish if you can. What you cannot write, you do not yet know.
- Listen to the chapter’s audio file on UHR’s study-material page, later the same day, while doing something else. It is the same text; hearing it fixes the spelling and the sound together.
The four steps are our suggestion. The chapter introductions and the audio files are UHR’s.
Use the corrected edition of the guide. UHR corrected two facts on 10 August 2026: the UN was founded in 1945 (p.39), and Sweden has about 1,400 preserved churches and church ruins of medieval origin (p.43). UHR says having read the earlier version will not affect your result [official: UHR, Utbildningsmaterial].
Days 10 and 14: where the questions are
A plan with no testing is a reading list. Two of the 14 days have no new pages on purpose. These are the question sets on this site; all are ours, in Swedish with four options, and each answer cites its page in the guide.
| When | Set | Where | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 4, after kapitel 6 | Mini test, 10 questions | The format guide | A first check that the Swedish of the questions is within reach. |
| Day 10 | 30 practice questions, scored per chapter | The practice-questions guide | Finding the chapters to reread first on days 11 to 13. |
| Day 12 | 15 worked questions on rights, democracy and history | The hard-questions guide | Learning why each wrong option is wrong. |
| Day 14 | Mini test in Swedish and English, 10 questions | The guide in English | A last short set you have not seen. |
Links: the format guide, the 30 practice questions, the 15 worked hard questions and the guide in English. That is 65 questions, none repeated between pages.
Practise it, don't just read it
On a test day, add a full quiz on kapitel 2 to 4 from the exam page.
One Swedish practice quiz is live on the exam page today: 12 questions on democracy and how Sweden is governed, four options each, with the reason for every answer. None of its questions is repeated on this page.
If you have one week, or three
The same nine reading blocks stretch or shrink. The figures are our arithmetic: 43 pages divided by the reading days in each pass.
| Length | First pass | Second pass | Test days | Honest comment |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 days | 5 days, about 8.6 pages a day | None: reread only the chapters you missed questions on | 2 (days 6 and 7) | Enough to know what is in the guide; thin for learning the Swedish terms. |
| 14 days (this plan) | 9 days, about 4.8 pages a day | 3 days, about 14.3 pages a day | 2 (days 10 and 14) | Workable if you read Swedish without stopping at every line. |
| 21 days | 13 days, one chapter a day, about 3.3 pages a day | 5 days, about 8.6 pages a day | 3 | The better choice if you look up many words. |
For any other length, the reading planner in the format guide divides the 43 pages by the weeks and sittings you enter.
Keep track
Revision tracker: 14 days
Tick a day when its task is done, not when the pages have only been read.
Ticks are saved only in this browser on this device. Page totals are our count from the guide’s table of contents.
If a day slips, do not double the next one. Move the whole plan a day: the test has no announced date to hold you to, and a skipped second pass costs more than a late finish.
Before you start: two checks that save the two weeks
- Check that you need the test. A pass grade in samhällskunskap from Swedish school or Komvux replaces it, and some groups are exempt. The exemption guide has a checker.
- Check where you start. If you have done SFI or samhällsorientering, some of the content is familiar and some is not. The comparison guide shows which chapters are likely to be new.
- When UHR publishes the next date, count back from it. Registration is only possible with a referral letter from Migrationsverket, and not after it has closed.
Preview the medborgarskapsprovet revision kit
The second pass on days 11 to 13 is where a short version helps most. The kit puts the whole official guide, Sverige i fokus, on seven pages in English, with the Swedish word you will meet on the paper beside each fact and the guide’s page number after it. Page 1 is free to read in full on the kit page, where you can also see the contents of the other six pages before deciding.
Frequently asked questions
Is two weeks enough for the Swedish citizenship test?
Nobody can promise that: UHR has published no pass mark, no question count and no past paper. Two weeks is enough to read the 43 content pages of the official guide twice and test yourself twice. Whether that is enough for you depends mostly on your Swedish.
How many pages do I have to read?
Sverige i fokus is 48 pages. The 13 chapters are on pages 5 to 47, which is 43 pages by our count.
Which chapter should I spend most time on?
By length, kapitel 10 (modern history, 7 pages), then kapitel 1 and 7 (5 pages each). Length is reading time only; UHR has published no weighting.
In which order should I read the chapters?
This plan follows the guide’s own order, 1 to 13. The guide does not say the order matters, so if a chapter interests you, starting there does no harm.
When should I start the plan?
UHR has not announced the next test date. If you have a referral letter, reading now costs nothing; when a date is published, restart the 14 days two to three weeks before it.
Can I study from an English summary only?
You can learn the facts that way, but the test is in Swedish only. Plan time to read or hear every chapter in Swedish at least once.
Are the page counts official?
The page ranges are printed in the guide’s table of contents. The counts, the shares and the daily totals are our arithmetic from those ranges.
Does UHR recommend a study plan?
UHR publishes the guide, the audio files and tips for the test day. It does not publish a study schedule; this one is ours.
Where is the audio version?
On UHR’s study-material page: 14 mp3 files, the introduction and one for each of the 13 chapters.
