Medborgarskapsprov svåra frågor: 15 Hard Questions, Worked

Checked 13 October 2026. The questions are our own, written from Sverige i fokus (1st edition, corrected version 2026-08-10). “Hardest” is our judgement: UHR has published no difficulty data, no past paper and no pass mark, and the only sitting so far was a trial test. A new edition of the guide can change facts and page numbers here.

Medborgarskapsprov svåra frågor: what “hard” means on this page

UHR has published nothing about which questions candidates find hardest. There is no published difficulty figure, no past paper and no pass mark; the only sitting, in August 2026, was a trial whose questions have not been released [official: UHR]. So the word “svåra” (hard) in the title is our judgement, and this is how we reached it.

The real test is multiple choice with four options and one correct answer. A question of that kind is hard when the three wrong options are things the study guide also says, about something else. We read Sverige i fokus looking for places where it puts two similar facts close together: two years, two authorities, two laws, two neighbouring countries. Those places are concentrated in three areas, and the 15 questions below come from them.

AreaChapter in the guideWhy we judge it hard
Rights (rättigheter)Kapitel 7, pp.22–26Several laws with similar names, several authorities with similar roles, and a run of years in one paragraph.
Democracy and law (demokrati och rätt)Kapitel 2, 5 and 6, pp.10–11 and 16–21Principles that are defined in one sentence each and are easy to swap: four fundamental laws, legal certainty, free media.
History (historia)Kapitel 10, pp.32–38The longest chapter, with years that sit a few years apart and events that happened to neighbours, not to Sweden.

That is a way of choosing what to practise, not a forecast of the paper. A reader who finds geography or holidays harder should trust their own score over our judgement.

Five ways a four-option question becomes hard

Each pattern is illustrated with facts from the guide. The pattern names are ours.

PatternHow it worksExample from the guide
Neighbouring yearsAll four options are real years from the same chapter.1909 almost all men may vote; 1918 the decision on universal suffrage; 1921 the first election where women vote (p.33–34).
Who does whatFour authorities, each with a real task; only one has this task.DO sees that the Discrimination Act is followed (p.26); JO and JK check other authorities (p.13).
The definition with a tailA wrong option contradicts the second half of a definition. The consent law “gäller även när personerna är gifta”: it applies also to married people (p.23).
Laws that sound alikeThe wrong option describes a neighbouring law correctly.Samtyckeslagen (p.23) and sexköpslagen (p.24); the four fundamental laws (p.16).
It happened next doorThe wrong option is true of another country.Denmark and Norway were occupied and Finland was attacked; Sweden stayed outside the fighting (p.35).

Years that sit close together

A table of the years the guide gives in these three areas, in order. Every row is from Sverige i fokus, with its page. When a history or rights question offers four years, the three wrong ones are usually on this list.

15 worked questions: rättigheter, demokrati, historia

Fifteen new questions, five in each area, in Swedish with an English translation. Answer first. When you check, a wrong answer shows why the option you chose is wrong as well as the right answer, because on these questions the wrong options are where the learning is. None of the 15 repeats a question from the 30 practice questions, either mini test, our quiz library, the revision kit or UHR’s five examples.

Worked answers: the reason for every option

The full reasoning as a table, so it is on the page without the tool. Every reason rests on a sentence in Sverige i fokus. The last column gives the page of the correct answer; where a reason names another page, that is where the wrong option’s fact stands.

#Correct answerWhy the other three are wrongPage
1C. Att den som vill ha sex med en person måste försäkra sig om att den andra personen deltar frivilligt (that a person who wants to have sex with someone must make sure the other person takes part voluntarily). C: JO is named on p.13 as one of the authorities that check that other authorities act correctly. D: JK is named on p.13 beside JO, with the same checking role.p.26

D: The guide says some statements are forbidden by law, for example information that can harm Sweden’s security (p.16).p.20

A method for the hard ones

Four steps at the desk

  • Find the question word. “Vilket år”, “vilken myndighet”, “vad innebär”: it tells you what kind of answer is wanted before you read the options.
  • Place each wrong option. If three options are true of something else, naming that something else is how you rule them out. This is the habit the worked answers above are meant to build.
  • Watch the small words. “Även” (also), “bara” (only), “inte” (not), “nästan alla” (almost all) change a sentence. 1909 gave the vote to almost all men; that one word separates it from 1918.
  • Answer anyway. UHR’s tip for the day is “Våga gissa! Det finns inga minuspoäng”: there are no minus points, so an empty box can only cost you.

The method is ours. The tip about guessing is UHR’s, from its test-day page.

If a whole area went badly, go back to the chapter rather than to more questions: the topic map shows what each chapter covers, and the two-week plan gives kapitel 7 and kapitel 10 a day each for this reason.

Practise it, don't just read it

For democracy and how Sweden is governed there is also a full quiz in Swedish on the exam page.

One Swedish practice quiz is live on the exam page today: 12 questions on democracy and how Sweden is governed, four options each, with the reason for every answer. None of its questions is repeated on this page.

Frequently asked questions

Which questions are hardest in medborgarskapsprovet?

There is no official answer. UHR has published no difficulty data, no past paper and no pass mark. On this page “hardest” is our judgement: questions where all four options are real facts from the guide, which happens most in the chapters on rights, law and history.

Are these real questions from the test?

No. They are our own, written from Sverige i fokus. UHR has published five example questions and has not released the August 2026 paper.

Do I have to learn years by heart?

The guide gives many years and a four-option question can be built on any of them. We cannot say how many such questions the paper has. The year table above lists those in the rights, law and history chapters.

What is the difference between samtyckeslagen and sexköpslagen?

In the guide, samtyckeslagen means that a person who wants to have sex must make sure the other takes part voluntarily, also within marriage. Sexköpslagen makes it illegal to buy sex; the buyer can be punished, not the seller.

When did Sweden get universal suffrage: 1918 or 1921?

Both years are in the guide for different things. The decision on universal suffrage came in 1918; the first Riksdag election in which both men and women voted was in 1921.

What do DO, JO and JK do?

In the guide, DO (Diskrimineringsombudsmannen) sees that the Discrimination Act is followed. JO and JK are named as authorities that check that other authorities act correctly.

Is there a penalty for a wrong answer?

No. UHR says there are no minus points and advises candidates to dare to guess.

How many of these should I get right?

UHR has published no pass mark, so the grader gives a score, not a pass or fail. Use the score per area to decide what to reread.
