Medborgarskapsprovet — Swedish Citizenship Test

Medborgarskapsprovet is the knowledge test for people who have applied for Swedish citizenship and need to show basic knowledge of Swedish society, under the citizenship rules in force since 6 June 2026. The Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) develops and holds the test and decides the result; the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) decides who is referred to it. The test is in Swedish, on paper, with multiple-choice questions that have four options and one correct answer, and it is based on UHR's study material Sverige i fokus: the country, democracy and government, elections, law and justice, media, human rights, the labour market, welfare, modern history, Sweden and the world, religion, and traditions. A separate test in Swedish is to be introduced later.
