SCFHS Pharmacist Classification and Registration: Steps, Fees and CPD

Checked 25 September 2026. Fees from SCFHS's fee schedule (published 2024, Arabic; no newer schedule found). Processing times and CPD from the Mumaris FAQ and re-registration requirements; rules from the Aug 2025 procedural guide.

Passing the SPLE does not by itself let you practise in Saudi Arabia. SCFHS makes two further decisions: classification, which assigns your grade, and registration, which puts you on the register so you can work. This guide follows both, with SCFHS's own fee schedule, processing targets and renewal rules for pharmacists.

Where the SPLE fits

For a pharmacist trained outside the Kingdom, the SPLE is the assessment on the classification route: SCFHS's criteria give "professional practice licence exam or classification exam" as the assessment for the Pharmacist grade, and SCFHS's classification-exams list shows no separate pharmacy classification exam. A Senior or Consultant Pharmacist is assessed by "exam or evaluation". Either way, the result feeds the classification decision; it is not a licence on its own.

Verification: what SCFHS checks

OutcomeWhat follows
PositiveThe application proceeds to a final result
NegativeThe application is rejected and referred to SCFHS's committee on member violations
Unable to verifyThe applicant did not complete requirements, or the issuing body did not respond within 20 working days; the application is rejected

From SCFHS's procedural guide (Aug 2025, Arabic; translated by us). Verification is done by contacting the issuing body through official channels, checking its official website, or referring documents to a third party SCFHS has approved.

For an Indian pharmacist the issuing bodies are your university, each employer whose experience you count, and the State Pharmacy Council that registered you. SCFHS publishes no fee or turnaround for its third-party verifier; the figures on coaching sites disagree with one another, so pay what the verifier quotes for your file and add it to the calculator below.

Planning the timeline

StageOfficial figureCan it overlap?
SPLE window to result2–6 weeks after the window endsYes, with verification
VerificationIssuers have 20 working days to respondYes, with preparation and the exam
Classification by exam30 working daysNeeds the exam result and verification
Registration5 working daysNeeds lawful residence in Saudi Arabia

Adding the official figures: 2–6 weeks for the result, about 6 calendar weeks for a 30-working-day classification and about a week for registration — roughly 5 to 13 weeks from the end of a window if verification is already complete. Our arithmetic, and optimistic: most delays come from verification and employer paperwork, which have no official clock beyond the 20-day response window.

Renewal and CPD

RuleWhat SCFHS says
Registration periodTwo years
CPD to renew40 hours for pharmacists (20 for technicians, 40 for specialists, 60 for doctors)
Short of CPDA one-year renewal, available once
SCFHS eCore modules"Up to 12 hours of CPD or equivalent to a maximum of 50% of CPD requirements"
Renewal fee (Pharmacist)240 SAR when three months or less remain; a 150 SAR update fee if more than three months remain

Where other pages get this wrong

SCFHS asks pharmacists for 40 CPD hours per two-year registration — not 40 a year.

Commonly published instead: "Pharmacists need 40 CPD hours every year" and "registration is renewed every 3 years".

SCFHS's re-registration requirements tie the 40 hours to renewal, and the Mumaris FAQ gives the registration period as two years. Falling short allows a one-time, one-year renewal.

Why files stall

Where it stallsWhat helps
Your college does not answer the verification requestTell the registrar's office in advance and give the verifier a named contact
An employer has closed or will not replyCount only experience that can still be confirmed — you need twelve months of it
Names or dates differ between documentsFix spellings and initials before applying; the permit and the file use one name
A document is missingThe procedural guide cancels an incomplete application not completed within 20 working days

Our suggestions, built on SCFHS's procedural guide and document list. A negative verification result — an issuer saying it did not issue a document — is far worse than a delay: it leads to rejection and referral to SCFHS's violations committee.

Registering once you have a job

Registration is the step that needs you in Saudi Arabia. SCFHS requires lawful residence, which in practice means your employer's sponsorship, so the usual order is: classification from India, a job offer, the move, then registration — five working days on SCFHS's target. If more than a year passes between classification and registration, SCFHS asks you to re-classify first, so do not classify far ahead of an actual offer.

TimingRule
Registration validTwo years
Renewal windowFrom three months before expiry (renewal fee applies)
Renewing earlyMore than three months before expiry: a 150 SAR update fee
Away from practice and registering againExperience from inside the Kingdom: the Professional Registration service; from outside: re-classification first, then registration (Mumaris FAQ)
Classified but unregistered over a yearRe-classify, then register

From the Mumaris FAQ and SCFHS's fee schedule (2024). You can renew from three months before expiry at the standard renewal fee; changes made earlier cost the 150 SAR update fee, and fines start 31 days after expiry.

When you must start again

Situations that mean re-classification

  • Classified but not registered for over a year: apply for re-classification, then registration.
  • New experience from outside the Kingdom while classified and registered: re-classification, with experience showing practice was not interrupted for two years or more, and a retake of the professional licence exam (Mumaris FAQ).
  • A failed professional assessment: the classification application is rejected; a new one can be filed a year after the previous application.

Classification waits for your SPLE result. The quizzes are the part of this process you control.

The ProSyllabus SCFHS pharmacist library has topic quizzes for Pharmacology and Mechanisms of Action, Pharmaceutics and Dosage Forms, Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics, Therapeutics: Cardiovascular and Endocrine, Therapeutics: Infectious Disease and Antimicrobials, Pharmacy Practice, Dispensing and Patient Counseling, Drug Interactions, Adverse Effects and Toxicology and Pharmacy Law, Ethics and Saudi (SCFHS) Regulations. Each question comes with an explanation.

What is the SCFHS classification fee for a pharmacist?

The SCFHS fee schedule (2024) charges a Pharmacist 200 SAR admin, 900 SAR classification and 240 SAR registration — 1,340 SAR in total.

How long does SCFHS classification take?

SCFHS's targets are 7 working days for a direct decision, 30 when classification is by an electronic written exam and 35 for a practical evaluation. Registration takes 5 working days.

How many CPD hours does a pharmacist need in Saudi Arabia?

40 hours to renew a two-year registration. SCFHS says its eCore modules count for "up to 12 hours of CPD or equivalent to a maximum of 50%" of the requirement.

How long is SCFHS registration valid?

Two years.

Is the SCFHS fee the same whether I am classified by exam or evaluation?

Yes. The fee schedule gives the same admin, classification and registration fees for direct decision, evaluation and exam routes.

Is the SPLE enough to work as a pharmacist in Saudi Arabia?

No. The SPLE result feeds SCFHS classification; you then need registration, which requires lawful residence — usually through your employer — before you can practise.

What happens if my verification fails?

If an issuing body does not respond within 20 working days, SCFHS records the file as unable to verify and rejects the application. A negative result is referred to SCFHS's violations committee.

What does a Senior Pharmacist pay?

In the SCFHS fee schedule (2024): 200 SAR admin, 900 SAR classification and 320 SAR registration — 1,420 SAR. A Consultant Pharmacist pays 1,900 SAR.

Can I apply for SCFHS classification from India?

Yes. Classification can be applied for from outside the Kingdom through Mumaris+; registration needs lawful residence in Saudi Arabia.
