AEN LDCE 2025-26 by Zone: Vacancies, Candidates and Pass Rates

Northern Railway had 34 AEN seats and 558 eligible; Southern had 27 and 244 sat, about one in ten cleared. Five zones: seats, funnels, unfilled reserved posts, planned versus actual dates.

AEN LDCE 2025-26 by Zone: Vacancies, Candidates and Pass Rates

Checked 29 September 2026. Built from zonal letters published between August 2025 and August 2026 for the 2025-26 cycle. Vacancy counts are fixed per cycle; the next cycle will bring new counts and new lists.

There is no all-India vacancy notice for the AEN LDCE. Each zone and production unit counts its own AEN vacancies, issues its own notification, eligibility list, medical and viva, and publishes its own panel; RRB/Ajmer only ran the CBT for all of them in 2026. So the only honest way to judge the competition is zone by zone, from the letters each zone put on its website. We read 2025-26 AEN documents for five zones — Northern, Southern, East Coast, North Eastern and South East Central — and this guide lays out everything they show, including the seats they could not fill. Other zones and production units publish their own letters; five is what we read, not how many exist.

ProSyllabus is an independent study site. We are not affiliated with Indian Railways, the Railway Board, RRB/Ajmer or any zonal railway. Every rule below is quoted or summarised from their published letters, and your zone's Personnel Department decides every application.

Where other pages get this wrong

The Board's calendar put the AEN result at 22.06.2026 and panels at 27.07.2026. Neither happened on those dates: results were forwarded on 15.07.2026 and published by zones on 17.07.2026, and panels came between 05.08.2026 and 25.08.2026.

Commonly published instead: "Result … 22 June 2026 — Confirmed" and "Panel finalisation — 27 July 2026 — Confirmed" — our own notice-board page for this exam, which also lists Southern Railway's eligibility list as 24 October 2025.

Those are targets from the Board letter of 02.04.2026 and from Southern Railway's tentative calendar, not records. The dates below are taken from the letters that actually carried each step. Southern Railway's eligibility list, planned for 24.10.2025, was issued on 14.01.2026; Northern Railway published its CBT result on 16.07.2026.

Official zonal letters. ECoR's "sat" and "cleared" counts and the NER and NR eligible counts are our counts over the official lists (a present candidate has a score; 83 of 352 were marked absent in ECoR). NR's 58 is the number its viva letter calls as qualified in the CBT. A dash means we found no published figure.

Look up your zone's 2025-26 AEN numbers

Pick a zone to see its seats, how many sat the CBT, how many cleared it and how many reached the panel, with candidates per seat worked out.

Seats, lists and panels are from each zone's published letters. Candidates-per-seat figures and ECoR's appeared and qualified counts are our arithmetic over those documents. A dash means the zone had not published that figure by 29 September 2026.

Candidates who sat the CBT for each AEN seat
East Coast Railway (269 for 16 seats)16.8
Southern Railway (244 for 27 seats)9.0

Our arithmetic over the official figures. NR, NER and SECR did not publish how many sat.

Northern Railway (558 for 34)16.4
Southern Railway (328 for 27)12.1

Our arithmetic. North Eastern Railway had the fewest seats and the longest list per seat.

The Southern Railway funnel, stage by stage

Southern Railway published the most complete record, so it is the best view of how a cycle narrows. Its written-result letter of 17.07.2026 counts candidates by community at each stage, and its panel of 05.08.2026 says what happened to every seat.

Official counts from the SR written result of 17.07.2026. SC candidates were a quarter of those who sat and one of the 22 who cleared.

Every one of the 22 who cleared the CBT went on to the panel — and all 22 were placed against unreserved seats. The SC and the ST candidate who qualified had merit positions inside the unreserved 22, so they took UR seats on merit. That left the 3 SC and 2 ST seats with nobody to fill them. The panel says so directly: "Since there were no further eligible SC/ST employees, the 03 vacancies earmarked for SC and 02 vacancies earmarked for ST will remain unfilled". The one PwBD seat is carried forward to the next cycle because there was no eligible PwBD candidate. The panel is provisional under RBE 91/2018, subject to Supreme Court orders on reservation in promotion.

East Coast Railway: more candidates than seats could use

ECoR's result letter of 17.07.2026 forwards RRB/Ajmer's result of 15.07.2026 and says a list of candidates for viva, up to five times the number of vacancies category-wise, will be issued in due course. Its marks disclosure shows 27 candidates at or above the normalised 90 — more than the 16 seats. Viva was held on 20.08.2026 and the panel of 25.08.2026 (GM approval 24.08.2026) empanels 13 candidates against the 13 unreserved seats. The ST seat remains unfilled, and the two SC seats wait on proceedings kept in a sealed cover under RBE 13/1993 because of a pending case against one SC candidate. The panel also warns that seniority positions may change when the sealed cover is opened.

Northern Railway: the largest count we read

Northern Railway notified 34 AEN seats (UR 26, SC 5, ST 3) on 22.12.2025, six of them also reserved horizontally for PwBD candidates. Its eligibility list of 02.02.2026 names 558 eligible and 75 not eligible (our count of the list), about 16 eligible candidates per seat. The CBT result followed on 16.07.2026, and the viva letter of 12.08.2026 calls the 58 who qualified in the written test to viva on 18.08.2026 and 19.08.2026, subject to medical fitness under para 530(a) of the Indian Railway Medical Manual. Northern Railway did not publish how many sat the CBT.

The provisional panel of 19.08.2026 names 33: 26 against unreserved seats, 5 against SC and 2 against ST, so one ST seat remains unfilled. None of the PwBD candidates qualified in the CBT, and the panel carries the six PwBD reservations forward under Board letter E(GP)2022/2/20/PwBD of 21.06.2024. The panel is subject to the outcome of three original applications before CAT (Principal Bench), and one empanelled candidate's promotion is deferred until a current minor penalty ends. We give only these aggregates; the letters name individuals, and we do not.

North Eastern and South East Central Railways

North Eastern Railway notified 6 seats (UR 5, SC 0, ST 1, PwBD 0) on 19.12.2025, took applications through HRMS until 15.01.2026 and published its eligibility list on 20.04.2026: 227 provisionally eligible and 13 not eligible, by our count of the list. That is the steepest ratio among the five zones we read, close to 38 eligible candidates for each seat. We found no NER AEN result or panel by 29 September 2026. South East Central Railway's panel memo of 07.08.2026 fills all 5 seats (UR 4, SC 1), including the SC seat, after a viva on 06.08.2026; it describes the post in both pay systems, "PB-2 Rs 9300-34800 + GP 4800 / Level 8".

A second revision of 19.02.2026 (reported) had moved the CBT to 12 and 19 April 2026 before the 02.04.2026 letter set the May dates. The lesson for the next cycle: a Board calendar is a target. Expect each later step to slip by weeks, and read your zone's own letters for what actually happened.

The other Group B LDCE posts in Southern Railway

Southern Railway issued eight Group B 30% LDCE notifications for the same cycle (G25042 to G25049), and AEN had the most seats. The APO notification (G25042, 01.08.2025) is a scan: in our reading of it, APO had 5 seats — UR 4, SC nil, and a total of 5, which implies one ST seat because that cell is not legible — with one seat earmarked for PwBD.

Across every post and zone, RRB/Ajmer's letter of 14.05.2026 said 47,344 eligible candidates would be appearing: 23,898 scheduled on 24.05.2026 and 23,446 on 31.05.2026, at 50 centres in about 40 cities. That is who was scheduled, not who turned up. AEN sat in the morning shift (09:00 to 12:00, reporting 07:30) with APO, AEE, AFA and ASTE. An exam-analysis site reports 2,605 and 2,621 AEN candidates on the two dates (reported, not a Board figure).

What the numbers mean for your preparation

Reading the 2025-26 record

  • The line is the whole game. In both zones with full data, about one candidate in ten who sat cleared 90. Plan to score comfortably above it, not to scrape it: in ECoR the next candidate below the line had 89.38.
  • Seats can outnumber qualifiers. Southern Railway filled 22 of 27 because only 22 cleared the CBT. Where qualifiers are fewer than seats, the competition after the CBT is thinner — but medical fitness, viva and record of service (30 of 50, at least 15 from record of service) still have to be cleared.
  • Reserved seats go unfilled without qualifiers. In SR the reserved candidates who did qualify took unreserved seats on merit, and the SC and ST seats stayed empty. RBE 69/2026 (reported) gives SC/ST relaxation only in non-safety posts, and we found no official list placing AEN on either side, so plan for 90 unless your zone confirms otherwise.
  • Qualifying is not selection. ECoR had 27 qualifiers for 16 seats, and Northern Railway 58 for 34. Medical fitness, viva and record of service decide the rest.
  • Absence is common. A quarter of SR's eligible candidates and 83 of ECoR's 352 did not sit. The list you see is not the room you face.

Our reading of the official zonal letters for 2025-26.

How many AEN vacancies were there in the 2025-26 LDCE?

There is no all-India figure. The five zones we read notified Northern 34, Southern 27, East Coast 16, North Eastern 6 and South East Central 5.

What was the pass rate in the AEN LDCE 2026?

About one in ten of those who sat: 22 of 244 in Southern Railway (9.0%) and 27 of 269 in East Coast Railway (10.0%), our arithmetic over official figures.

Why were SC and ST seats left unfilled?

Southern Railway's panel says there were no further eligible SC/ST employees: the one SC and one ST candidate who qualified had merit positions within the unreserved seats, so the reserved seats had nobody to take them.

When were AEN LDCE results and panels published?

RRB/Ajmer forwarded results on 15.07.2026; Northern Railway published on 16.07.2026, Southern and East Coast on 17.07.2026. Panels followed: Southern 05.08.2026, South East Central 07.08.2026, Northern 19.08.2026 and East Coast 25.08.2026.

How many candidates are called for viva?

East Coast Railway's result letter says a viva list of up to five times the vacancies, category-wise, would be issued in due course. Northern Railway called all 58 who qualified in the CBT for its 34 seats.

Who conducts the AEN LDCE CBT?

RRB/Ajmer from the 2025-26 cycle, in place of NAIR. Each zone still runs its own notification, eligibility list, medical, viva and panel.

Where can I find my zone's AEN vacancies?

On your zone's Personnel Department notifications page and in the HRMS module. This guide covers the five zones whose letters we read; others publish their own.
