MHT CET Two Attempts: How 2026 Worked and What It Means for 2027

MHT CET 2026 was the first two-attempt year: sessions, registrations, turnout and the best-of-two rule (total percentile only), from the CET Cell’s documents — and what is known about 2027.

MHT CET Two Attempts: How 2026 Worked and What It Means for 2027

Checked 26 September 2026. From the MHT-CET 2026 brochure (11.04.2026), registration and schedule notices, objection reports and result press notes of June 2026. No MHT-CET 2027 notice existed on cetcell.mahacet.org on 26 Sep 2026.

In 2026 the State CET Cell ran MHT CET twice for each group — PCM and PCB each had a first and a second attempt, about three weeks apart for PCM and two weeks apart for PCB — and used the better of a candidate’s two total percentiles for admission. It was the first time, and it changed how results and cut-offs behave. This guide sets out exactly how the 2026 attempts worked, using the CET Cell’s brochure, notices and result press notes, and separates what is known about 2027 (nothing official yet) from what is being reported.

Where other pages get this wrong

No MHT-CET 2027 schedule has been published by the State CET Cell as of 26 September 2026.

Commonly published instead: “MHT CET 2027 first attempt 15 December 2026 to 15 January 2027; second attempt April 2027.”

cetcell.mahacet.org notices checked 26.09.2026: no 2027 notice; the site says the 2026-27 admission process is closed. PW itself describes those dates as not final.

PCM 2nd2,85,121
PCB 1st2,63,213
PCB 2nd95,631

CET Cell press notes, June 2026.

About 63% as many candidates sat the PCM second attempt as the first, and about 36% for PCB (our arithmetic: 2,85,121 ÷ 4,54,069 and 95,631 ÷ 2,63,213). What cannot be worked out is how many different people sat MHT CET in 2026: the CET Cell has not published a count of candidates who took both attempts, so the two turnouts cannot be added.

The rules that decided who counted

QuestionWhat the CET Cell says
Which score is used?“The best of the two percentile scores (Total score only)” for admission in 2026-27
Can subject percentiles be mixed? No — “the best score is taken only from the Total percentile, not from subject-wise percentiles”, and Physics or Chemistry percentiles are not interchanged between groups
How is each percentile worked out? From raw marks within each attempt’s own sessions, “again” for the second attempt
Same centre both times? Not guaranteed — a candidate “may get another” centre for the second attempt
Could someone take only the second attempt?Registration windows on 15–16 April and 23 April were opened for those who “missed the initial registration window” — on our reading, yes; the notices do not spell out the conditions, so do not skip a first attempt on the strength of this
CentresMaharashtra only in 2026 (2025 also had centres outside Maharashtra: 17 for PCM and 9 for PCB)

MHT-CET 2026 brochure (11.04.2026) pp. 5–6, 12, 15; notices of 13.04.2026 and 22.04.2026; 2025 brochure p. 7.

Because only the total percentile is compared, a candidate cannot take a strong Physics score from one attempt and a strong Mathematics score from the other. And ties in the CAP merit list are broken on “higher marks or score in Mathematics at CET”, then Physics, then Chemistry (CAP Information Brochure 2026-27, printed pp. 60–61), so — on our reading of that clause alongside the best-of-two rule — the attempt with the better total also supplies the subject scores used to break a tie.

What each attempt cost

The 2026 fee was charged per group, per attempt: ₹1,300 for General, OMS and J&K-migrant candidates, ₹1,000 for Maharashtra reserved, PwD, orphan and transgender candidates — so “both attempts” doubled it. It had been ₹1,000 and ₹800 per group in 2025, with one attempt.

Choice (2026 rates)General / OMSMaharashtra reserved etc.
One group, one attempt₹1,300₹1,000
One group, both attempts₹2,600₹2,000
PCM + PCB, both attempts (estimate)₹5,200₹4,000
Late-window registration+₹500+₹500

MHT-CET 2026 brochure p. 9 (per group: first attempt ₹1,300 / ₹1,000, both attempts ₹2,600 / ₹2,000); late-fee notices. The brochure prints no combined PCM + PCB price for 2026 (2025’s did), so that row is our estimate from the per-group fees.

MHT CET fee: one attempt or both? (2026 rates)

MHT-CET 2026 brochure: ₹1,300 per group per attempt (₹1,000 for Maharashtra reserved, PwD, orphan and transgender candidates); “Both Attempt” ₹2,600 / ₹2,000 per group; ₹500 late fee in each extension window. Service charges extra; non-refundable. No 2027 fee has been notified — these are 2026 figures. Arithmetic ours.

Did the second attempt help?

The CET Cell publishes no figure for how many candidates improved. Two official numbers point the same way. The final CAP merit list of Maharashtra State PCM candidates shows 35 at 100 percentile — more than the 26 of the first attempt alone and fewer than 26 + 12 = 38, which is what best-of-two with some overlap would produce (our reading). And across the whole distribution, 2026 percentiles are higher than 2025’s at the same merit position: state merit number 50,000 was 85.06 percentile in 2025 and 88.11 in 2026. That is what taking each candidate’s better score does to a population — and it is why 2026 cut-off percentiles cannot be compared with 2025’s. The merit-number guide in this series explains the shift.

If a December first attempt does happen, it would move the exam four months earlier than any of the last three years, and a Class 12 student would sit it before the board exams. That is a reason to cover the Class 12 syllabus early — 80% of the questions come from it — rather than a reason to believe a date that the CET Cell has not published.

A second attempt only helps if the total improves. The MHT CET quizzes cover the high-weight Class 12 topics in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

The ProSyllabus MHT CET library has topic quizzes on laws of motion, rotational dynamics, current electricity, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics, equilibrium, organic basics, quadratic equations and complex numbers, and calculus — the first quiz is free.

How many attempts were there in MHT CET 2026?

Two per group: PCM on 11–20 April and 12–20 May; PCB on 21–26 April and 10–11 May 2026.

Which score counts if I take both MHT CET attempts?

The better of the two total percentiles; subject percentiles are not mixed.

Will MHT CET 2027 have two attempts?

Not announced officially as of 26 September 2026.

When is MHT CET 2027?

No official date yet. Reported December 2026–January 2027 dates are not on the CET Cell website.

How many students gave MHT CET 2026?

PCM: 4,54,069 and 2,85,121 appeared in the two attempts; PCB: 2,63,213 and 95,631. Unique candidates are not published.

What was the MHT CET 2026 fee?

₹1,300 per group per attempt (₹1,000 for Maharashtra reserved and similar categories).

Could I take only the second attempt in MHT CET 2026?

Late windows in April were opened for those who missed the first registration, so, on our reading, yes — but the notices do not state the conditions; confirm in the 2027 notice.

Was the second attempt harder?

The CET Cell does not publish difficulty data; percentiles are computed separately within each attempt.

How many sessions were in MHT CET 2026?

PCM 16 + 11; PCB 11 + 4.

Were MHT CET 2026 centres outside Maharashtra?

No — Maharashtra only, unlike 2025.
