Checked 25 September 2026. From SIRI’s dates-and-deadlines page, the participant information and BEK nr. 452 af 13/05/2024. The 2027 dates and fee were not yet published; SIRI must publish the dates by 1 October 2026.
The next Medborgerskabsprøven — the Danish civic knowledge test that can count towards permanent residence — is on Wednesday 25 November 2026, from 11:00 to 11:30. You must be registered with a language centre by Wednesday 21 October 2026, five weeks before — within your centre’s opening hours, so check its own cut-off and keep the confirmation — and there is no late-registration right, only a request you can make to SIRI. This guide collects every date, fee and rule for the November sitting from SIRI’s own documents, and corrects the figures that several English-language sites still get wrong.
SIRI dates-and-deadlines page; SIRI news of 16 December 2024. Time from every official paper since 2016 (“kl. 11.00–11.30”).
Where other pages get this wrong
The fee in 2026 is 946 kr. and you register with the language centre at least five weeks before the test — by 21 October 2026.
Commonly published instead: “It costs around DKK 825” and “registration closes 6–8 weeks before the test”.
SIRI’s dates page gives 946 kr. for 2026 (905 kr. in 2025, 874 kr. as the 2024 base in BEK 452/2024 §3), and BEK §8(1) sets the deadline at five weeks before the test.

Will my ID be accepted — and how many days are left?
Pick the document you plan to bring. The box also counts the days from today to each deadline for the 25 November 2026 sitting.
SIRI: originals only; accepted are a Danish residence card, alien’s or convention passport, an EU/EEA/Swiss passport or approved national ID card, or another country’s passport with a residence sticker. Driving licences have been refused since the 29 May 2024 sitting. Other ID needs SIRI’s permission at least four weeks before the test.
How to register, step by step
- Pick a language centre that holds the test. SIRI’s list of providers marks them with “MP”; by our count of the list about 50 centres carry the code, spread across all five regions. SIRI’s own news gave 47 designated centres in May 2024 and 46 in September 2025, so ask your centre directly whether it runs the November sitting.
- Register directly with that centre — in person, by phone or by e-mail; many take online registrations. You do not register with SIRI, nyidanmark.dk or any national portal.
- Pay 946 kr. to the centre when you register.
- Check your ID against the list below; ask SIRI by 28 October if you need a different document accepted.
- Apply for special conditions — extra time, a helper, technical aids — at the centre by 28 October, with an expert statement.
- Download the August 2026 learning material, the edition this sitting is based on.
Missed 21 October? You can apply to SIRI on its form, by Digital Post, for permission to look for a centre with a free seat. With permission you still have to find the seat yourself, and a centre may refuse for practical reasons. Refund rules if you cancel are set by each centre, not by SIRI — one large provider, Studieskolen, refunds the fee less a 100 kr. administration charge before the deadline and half of it up to two weeks before the test — so read your centre’s terms.
The fee
| Year | Fee | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 (base in the regulation) | 874 kr. | Indexed every 1 January from 2025 |
| 2025 | 905 kr. | SIRI news, September 2025 |
| 2026 | 946 kr. | Same fee as Indfødsretsprøven |
| 2027 | Not yet published | SIRI published the 2026 fees on 15 October 2025 |
| Retake after a fail | A new fee each time | SIRI |
| Re-test after a successful complaint | Free | BEK §48(3) |
BEK 452/2024 §3; SIRI dates page and fee news; participant information.
For scale: the application for permanent residence itself costs 7,570 kr. in 2026 for work or study cases, or 4,970 kr. for family-reunification or asylum cases, and the expected maximum processing time is 12 months, according to nyidanmark.dk. The test fee is a small part of the cost; what a fail really costs is the wait until the next sitting — roughly half a year on the pattern of recent dates — plus a new fee.
ID on the day
The centre checks your identity against a fixed list and accepts only original documents: a Danish residence card, an alien’s or convention passport issued by a Danish authority, an EU/EEA or Swiss passport or approved national ID card, or any other passport with a residence sticker in it. For most readers from India, the Philippines or Pakistan the last condition is the one to check — a passport without the sticker is not on the list, so the residence card is the safer document. A driving licence has not been accepted since the 29 May 2024 sitting. If the immigration service holds your passport during a pending case, SIRI’s participant information says you must get it back or obtain a certified copy, and a certified copy needs SIRI’s permission in advance.
Illness, lateness and the rules in the room
| Situation | Rule |
|---|---|
| Ill on the day | No sick re-sit. Wait for the next sitting and pay again |
| Late | You may join within the first 15 minutes, with no extra time |
| Leaving early | Not before the 30 minutes are up and your paper is collected |
| Phone, smartwatch, dictionary | Not allowed; the test has no aids except approved disability aids |
| Taking the paper home | Not allowed — but SIRI publishes it afterwards |

When the test is held — and 2027
Medborgerskabsprøven is held twice a year, in the May–June and November–December terms. Since the first sitting on 1 December 2016 there have been 20, most of them on a Wednesday in late May, early June or late November — the most recent were 27 November 2024, 27 May 2025, 26 November 2025 and 3 June 2026. SIRI must publish the next year’s dates and deadlines by 1 October each year, and says the 2027 dates will appear by 1 October 2026. Until they do, any “2027 date” on another site is a guess.

Practise it, don't just read it
With eight weeks to go, the best use of time is the official papers against the clock: 25 questions in 30 minutes is 72 seconds a question, and every question comes from the learning material.
The ProSyllabus library for Medborgerskabsprøven has a topic quiz for each of the 26 fact sheets, all 20 official papers from 2016 to June 2026 as timed quizzes, and ten full mock exams — the first quiz is free.
