Checked 25 September 2026. Built from SIRI’s 20 official papers and answer keys (December 2016–June 2026). All counts are our computation; all 500 keys were cross-checked against SIRI’s answer sheets.
SIRI has published every Medborgerskabsprøven paper since the first sitting on 1 December 2016, each with its answer key. That is 20 papers and 500 questions — and the test repeats itself heavily. Since November 2019, between 44% and 84% of each paper has matched a question from an earlier sitting. But there is a catch that most prep sites miss: some of the old answer keys are no longer true, because Denmark has changed. This guide sets out what repeats, the most-asked questions, and the outdated answers to unlearn.
SIRI papers and answer keys; our analysis.
Where other pages get this wrong
Questions have two or three answer options — never four.
Commonly published instead: “There are four options per question” and “the questions are drawn from an official question bank”.
SIRI and BEK 452/2024 say two or three options, and none of the 500 official questions has four (our count). No official source mentions a question bank; the questions are formulated within the published learning material.
How much repeats
Our computation: a question counts as seen before when its wording is at least 78% similar to an earlier question and its correct answer at least 60% similar. Approximate.
Across all 500 questions we found about 258 distinct questions, of which 118 appeared in two or more sittings; those repeats account for 360 of the 500. The share peaked at 84% in November 2021 and has settled at 44–64% in recent sittings, so a candidate who knows every earlier paper well still meets roughly half a paper of new questions. Past papers are the best practice there is, but not a substitute for reading the material — and one prep site’s claim that “at least half” of every paper comes from earlier ones was not true for November 2023, November 2024 or May 2025.
The most-asked questions
| Times asked | Question (gist) | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | Who was Denmark’s first female prime minister? | Helle Thorning-Schmidt |
| 7 | Who elects a workplace union representative? | The employees |
| 6 | Which company makes wind turbines? | Vestas |
| 6 | How many Folketing members are elected in Greenland? | 2 |
| 5 | The strait between Jutland and Funen | Lillebælt |
| 5 | May a non-citizen form an association? | Yes |
| 5 | When was the Constitution last changed? | 1953 |
| 5 | How many members does the Folketing have? | 179 |
| 5 | How many municipalities are there? | 98 |
| 5 | Is borrowing books at public libraries free? | Yes |
Our count of the 20 official papers; answers as in SIRI’s keys and still correct in the August 2026 material where checked.
Questions asked four times include the age of majority (18), whether union membership is free (no), who holds judicial power (the courts), the number of years of compulsory education (10), the top grade on the 7-point scale (12), NATO membership (yes), the year of the Constitution (1849), the number of regions (5), whether an employer may dismiss a woman for being pregnant (no), how the monarch is chosen (by inheritance), the usual full-time week (37 hours), where to appeal a district-court decision (the High Court) and what is celebrated on 5 June (Constitution Day). A two-page summary of these recurring facts is worth making by hand.
Old answers that are now wrong
SIRI’s keys were correct when each paper was set. Some facts have since changed, and a candidate who learns them from old papers will answer the November 2026 paper wrongly. These are the ones we found against the August 2026 material:
| Papers | Question (gist) | Old key | Now |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2018-06, 2020-06, 2021-11, 2022-11 | Who gives the New Year’s speech on 31 December? | The Queen | The King (papers since 2025 ask who the king is: Frederik 10.) |
| 2017-06, 2017-11, 2018-11 | How many MEPs does Denmark elect? | 13 | 15 of 720 |
| 2018-11; 2024-05 | Share of women in the Folketing | About 40%; about 45% | 86 of 179 (48%) in the equality sheet; 49% of those elected in 2026 in the elections sheet |
| 2025-05 | Conscription decision of 2024 | More conscripts | The 2026 material: service is normally 11 months; women have been liable since 1 July 2025 (the June 2026 paper asks who has conscription: men and women) |
Our comparison of the official keys with the August 2026 learning material. Two further old keys (fathers’ leave in 2017, unemployment-fund membership share) could not be checked against the 2026 material — do not rely on them. Two changes do not alter the answer: the usual turnout is now “about 85%” (still within the old “80–90%”), and the monarch’s role in signing laws is unchanged — only the title in the option is now King rather than Queen.
Myths the papers disprove
| Myth | What the 500 questions show |
|---|---|
| “There are four options” | 137 have two options (27.4%) and 363 have three; none has four |
| “The longest answer is usually right” | In the 185 three-option questions with a single longest option, it was right only 54 times (29.2%) — below the 33% of a blind guess |
| “Two-option questions are always yes” | Of 137, 57 are “Ja”, 34 “Nej” and 46 other pairs |
| “The answer is always C” | In three-option questions C was correct 41.9% of the time, A 25.9% and B 32.2% — a past pattern, not a strategy SIRI endorses |
Our analysis of the 20 official papers and keys.
Our count. Two-option questions per paper ranged from 3 to 12.
The C-heavy pattern is interesting but useless as a tactic: a candidate who guessed C on every three-option question would still score well under the 20 needed, and SIRI can change the pattern at any sitting. Knowledge is the only reliable route, and there is no negative marking, so never leave a question blank.
How the mix of topics has shifted
The papers have not drawn evenly on the learning material over time. In our classification, everyday life, work and welfare (fact sheets 1–10) supplied 38% of questions in 2016–19 but 26% in 2024–26, while history (fact sheets 20–21) rose from 9% to 20%. Democracy, law, rights and religion held steady at around 28–32%, and geography rose from 6% to 10%. The classification is approximate, but the direction is clear enough to act on: a candidate who studied only from the oldest papers would under-prepare for history, and the recent papers are the better guide to what November 2026 will look like.
| Group of fact sheets | 2016–19 | 2020–23 | 2024–26 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Everyday life, work, welfare (1–10) | 38% | 30% | 26% |
| Democracy, law, rights, religion (11–17) | 32% | 32% | 28% |
| History (20–21) | 9% | 10% | 20% |
| Geography and population (19) | 6% | 10% | 10% |
| Culture and traditions (22–23) | 9% | 14% | 8% |
| World, defence, discrimination, climate (18, 24–26) | 6% | 5% | 8% |

How to use the papers
- Start with the three most recent papers (June 2026, November 2025, May 2025) in 30 minutes each.
- Mark with SIRI’s key; the pass line is 20.
- Check every wrong answer in the August 2026 material, and check every old key against it — especially anything about the monarch, the government, elections, the EU and conscription.
- Work back through all 20; the repeats will start to feel familiar.
- Keep a list of the changed facts so you do not slip back to the old answer under time pressure.

Practise it, don't just read it
All 20 official papers are on ProSyllabus as timed 30-minute quizzes marked against SIRI’s keys. When you practise the older ones, remember the table above: the key reflects Denmark in the year the paper was set.
The ProSyllabus library for Medborgerskabsprøven has a topic quiz for each of the 26 fact sheets, all 20 official papers from 2016 to June 2026 as timed quizzes, and ten full mock exams — the first quiz is free.
Where can I find Medborgerskabsprøven past papers?
On SIRI’s danskogproever.dk preparation page, each with its answer key.
How many official papers are there?
Twenty, from 1 December 2016 to 3 June 2026.
Do questions repeat?
Yes — since November 2019, 44% to 84% of each paper matched an earlier question (our analysis).
What is the most-asked question?
Who was Denmark’s first female prime minister (Helle Thorning-Schmidt) — asked in 8 papers.
Are old answer keys still correct?
Mostly, but not all. The New Year’s speech is now given by the King, and Denmark elects 15 MEPs, not 13.
How many options does each question have?
Two or three; none of the 500 official questions has four.
Is the longest answer usually correct?
No — in our analysis it was correct only 29% of the time.
Is there an official question bank?
No official source mentions one; questions are written from the published learning material.
When are papers published?
SIRI published the June 2026 papers on the day of the test.
Can I get my own answer sheet?
Yes — SIRI’s complaints page and BEK 452/2024 §45 say you can ask the centre for a free copy.
How many past papers should I do?
All 20 if you can, starting with the most recent and checking old keys against the 2026 material.
Is there negative marking?
No. Only correct answers count, so answer every question.
