MDU fills its B.Ed and M.Ed seats in three online allotment rounds followed by a physical round run by the colleges. The online rounds use your merit score, category and the college choices you locked by 3 September; you do not pick again between rounds. The physical round is different: vacant seats are shown on 27 October, and on 28 October each college takes fresh applications, makes its own merit list and admits on the spot. This guide sets out the dates, what the first round filled, what each outcome means for you and how not to lose your place.

A late list and a fixed reporting window
- The schedule shows round-1 allotment on 24.09.2026; the list on MDU's notice page is dated 26.09.2026.
- The reporting window in the prospectus still ends on 29.09.2026. We found no notice extending it on 29 September.
- If you were allotted in round 1 and have not reported, go to the college now and ask the Principal in writing what date applies.
Where is MDU B.Ed counselling on a given day?
It opens on today's date. Change it to see what the 2026-27 schedule says for any day.

Two things stand out. Seats are not the constraint: roughly a third of the seats in the participating colleges were allotted in round 1, by our arithmetic. And Group-I ran out of applicants before it ran out of seats — 1,845 names on its list for about 4,650 seats. Round 2 is when vacant seats may be converted from one group to the other, and that is Group-II applicants' best chance. Aided seats are the exception: nearly all of them went in round 1 (see the colleges guide for our count).

What knocks you out of later rounds
- Cancelling your own allotment. "Candidate who, at any stage, cancels his/her provisional allotment will not be considered for the subsequent online counselling."
- Not paying the fee. Candidates who do not pay the required fees "will not be considered for the subsequent round(s)".
- Failing eligibility. The allotment is cancelled and you are out of later rounds.
- A false entry. Admission cancelled at any stage and fees forfeited.
- A category certificate that fails is the exception: you stay in, in the wider category.

If you did not get a seat
Do nothing to your registration. You stay in the queue for rounds 2 and 3 on your merit, category and locked choices; changing choices after the last date needs "due permission from the University authorities". Watch MDU's notice page on 5 and 16 October. If none of the three rounds works, the physical round on 28 October is open to you — and to anyone who never applied online.

Prospectus p. 11. The Rs 2,000 is per college you apply to, paid to that college. MDU warns that a college which does not send its list "would be considered" to have no admission in the course.
Where other pages get this wrong
Physical counselling has one reporting day: 28 October 2026, by 11 AM. Vacant seats are displayed by 27 October and fees are paid from 28 to 31 October.
Commonly published instead: "Physical counselling from 27 to 31 October", as our own notice board put it.
A student who reads "27 to 31 October" and turns up on the 29th has missed it. The schedule on p. 11 gives the college merit list and allotment on 28 October only.
Mistakes that cost a seat
- Waiting for an SMS. "No individual allotment letter will be sent." Check mdu.ac.in.
- Paying cash to a person or into a personal account. Pay only the college's designated account and keep the proof.
- Cancelling a round-1 seat to "try for better" — it takes you out of the online rounds.
- Assuming the round-1 dates moved because the list was late. Ask the college in writing.
- Treating the physical round as a formality. It is a new merit list at each college, in one afternoon.
Practise it, don't just read it
Classes began on 1 October. If you have a seat, the first-year papers are the same in every MDU college — try a quiz on Learning and Teaching.
The ProSyllabus MDU B.Ed library has quizzes on the first-year course papers — Childhood and Growing Up, Learning and Teaching, Knowledge and Curriculum, Assessment for Learning and Contemporary India and Education. They are for students who already hold a seat, not for admission: there is no admission test to practise for.
When is the MDU B.Ed 2nd counselling in 2026?
The 2nd allotment is scheduled for 5 October 2026, with reporting from 5 to 10 October.
When is the MDU B.Ed 3rd counselling?
The 3rd allotment is on 16 October 2026; report from 16 to 21 October.
When is MDU B.Ed physical counselling?
Vacant seats are displayed by 27 October 2026. Candidates report to the colleges by 11 AM on 28 October; fees are paid from 28 to 31 October.
Can I get MDU B.Ed admission without applying online?
Yes, in the physical round: candidates apply afresh at the college and pay Rs 2,000 to its Principal.
How many seats were allotted in the MDU B.Ed 1st counselling?
By our count, 3,684 across B.Ed, B.Ed Special Education, M.Ed and M.Ed Special Education.
If I take a seat in round 1, can I move up in round 2?
The college reports a status of "HOLD SEAT & INTERESTED FOR NEXT COUNSELLING" for candidates who want the next round. Cancelling the seat yourself takes you out of later online rounds.
Do I need to fill choices again for round 2?
No. The choices saved on the last date are final; changes need the University's permission.
Will MDU send me an allotment letter?
No. Results are displayed on mdu.ac.in only.
Is the MDU B.Ed counselling fee refundable?
The processing-cum-counselling fee paid with the online form is not. A college fee paid before the last round is refundable as per UGC/NCTE/RCI guidelines.
