IBPS RRB Officer Scale II and III 2026: Streams, Experience, States

Checked 29 September 2026. From the CRP RRBs-XV notification (01.09.2026), Annexure I (01.09 and 25.09.2026) and XIV Annexure I (27.09.2025). Cut-offs reported by Adda247. Vacancies are indicative.

Most coverage of the IBPS RRB officer recruitment is about Scale I. But CRP RRBs-XV also offers 1,059 Scale II posts (Manager) in seven streams and 220 Scale III posts (Senior Manager) — 1,279 posts for candidates who already have officer experience or a professional qualification. They are recruited differently: a single online exam instead of prelims and Main, no local-language requirement in the notification, and an interview shortlist of up to three times the declared vacancies per category, without the per-state wording used for Scale I. This guide covers the streams, the experience rules, the exam, the 25 September revision and where the posts are.

Official Annexure I figures. IT Officer doubled (90 to 182) while General Banking Officer fell by 193.

The shape of Scale II changed. General Banking Officer, still the largest stream, lost 193 posts (859 to 666), and Agriculture Officer fell from 50 to 38. IT Officer roughly doubled, from 90 to 182. The 25 September 2026 update then added 10 Law Officer posts (46 to 56), one Chartered Accountant (81 to 82) and one Treasury Manager (18 to 19); pages still showing Scale II as 1,047 are on the older table.

Qualification and experience, stream by stream

PostQualificationExperience (as on 21.09.2026)
Scale II General Banking OfficerBachelor’s in any discipline, minimum 50% aggregate2 years as an officer in a bank or financial institution
Scale II IT OfficerBachelor’s in Electronics, Communication, Computer Science or IT, 50%; desirable certificates in ASP, PHP, C++, Java, VB, VC, OCP1 year in the relevant field
Scale II Chartered AccountantCertified Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India1 year as a Chartered Accountant
Scale II Law OfficerDegree in Law, 50%2 years as an advocate, or 2 years as Law Officer in a bank or FI
Scale II Treasury ManagerChartered Accountant or MBA in Finance1 year in the relevant field
Scale II Marketing OfficerMBA in Marketing1 year in the relevant field
Scale II Agriculture OfficerBachelor’s in Agriculture, Horticulture, Dairy, Animal Husbandry, Forestry, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Engineering or Pisciculture, 50%2 years in the relevant field
Scale III Senior ManagerBachelor’s in any discipline, 50%5 years as an officer in a bank or financial institution

Experience is counted after the qualifying degree and must be proved with certificates as on 21.09.2026. The 50% line is strict: IBPS ignores fractions, so 49.99% is below 50%. Serving employees of government departments, public sector undertakings or banks must bring a no-objection certificate at the interview. The age limits are above 21 and below 32 for Scale II (born 02.09.1994 to 01.09.2005) and above 21 and below 40 for Scale III (born 02.09.1986 to 01.09.2005), before any relaxation.

The notification prints no pay. One participating RRB’s own disclosure — Maharashtra Gramin Bank’s suo motu disclosure under Section 4 of the RTI Act, scales of pay with effect from 01.11.2022 — gives Scale II basic pay as ₹64,820 – 2,340 (1) – 67,160 – 2,680 (10) – 93,960 and Scale III as ₹85,920 – 2,680 (5) – 99,320 – 2,980 (2) – 1,05,280. Those are the same scales as the corresponding public sector bank grades; we have checked one RRB’s disclosure, not all 28.

Which officer post can I apply for?

Answer six questions about your qualification and experience as on 21.09.2026. The tool lists the posts whose education and experience rules you meet. Check age separately, and remember you may apply for only one of them.

A simplified reading of the notification’s table; the notification’s wording and your certificates decide. Law needs two years as an advocate or as a Law Officer in a bank or FI — other legal work does not count here. CA needs one year as a Chartered Accountant. Scale I additionally needs the state’s local language.

The exam: 200 or 240 questions, Hindi or English

Scale II General Banking Officer and Scale III sit the same paper: Reasoning (40 questions, 50 marks), Computer Knowledge (40, 20), Financial Awareness (40, 40), English or Hindi language (40, 40) and Quantitative Aptitude and Data Interpretation (40, 50) — 200 questions and 200 marks in 120 minutes. The specialist streams sit 240 questions for 200 marks in 150 minutes, adding a 40-question Professional Knowledge test and reducing Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude to 40 marks each and the language test to 20. The medium is Hindi or English only. The penalty is a quarter of a question’s marks for each wrong answer, as for Scale I.

There is no prelims, so the single exam score decides the interview shortlist directly: “adequate number of candidates in each category not exceeding three times of the declared vacancies” are called, subject to a minimum in each test. Final merit is the exam and the interview in the ratio 80:20, and allotment is “to one of the RRBs, based on merit-cum-preference” — unlike Scale I, the notification does not restrict Scale II and III allotment to one state.

* IT, Chartered Accountant, Law, Treasury Manager, Marketing and Agriculture Officer together (393). States not listed have none of these posts. West Bengal alone has 151 of the 666 General Banking posts; Gujarat (50) and Tamil Nadu (48) hold 98 of the 220 Scale III posts. Rajasthan has 31 of the 82 Chartered Accountant posts, and Maharashtra 20 CA and 15 Law posts.

Two features of the posting rules are worth knowing before you choose between Scale I and Scale II. Scale I and Office Assistant allotment is restricted to the RRBs of the state you opted for, and the local language of that state is an essential qualification. For Scale II and Scale III the notification states neither restriction: provisional allotment is to one of the RRBs on merit-cum-preference, and the local-language condition is written only for Scale I and Office Assistant. Serving employees of government offices, public sector undertakings, nationalised banks and financial institutions must produce a no-objection certificate in original at the interview, and IBPS warns that a certificate limited to one particular RRB will not be accepted, because the process is common to all RRBs.

Reported 2024 minimum scores for Scale II and III

Adda247 prints minimum scores for the 2024 (CRP RRBs-XIII) Scale II and III posts. They are reported, not official, and the source labels them inconsistently: the section is headed “Scale 2 and 3 Final Cut Off 2024”, but the table itself is titled “Mains Cut Off 2024: Minimum Scores”. The figures (24 to 50) are far too low to be scores on the 200-mark single exam and fit a final score out of 100 combining the exam and the interview — our reading; we could not locate IBPS’s own document to confirm it. Do not compare them with a raw exam score. The same page’s “maximum scores” table puts the General Banking EWS maximum at 25.00, below the EWS minimum of 35.85 printed here, so at least one of the two tables contains an error.

With posts this few — 19 Treasury Manager posts nationally — a cut-off can swing on a handful of candidates, so a single year’s figure says little.

How many IBPS RRB Scale II vacancies are there in 2026?

1,059 as on 25.09.2026: General Banking 666, IT 182, CA 82, Law 56, Agriculture 38, Treasury 19 and Marketing 16.

How many Scale III posts are there in CRP RRBs-XV?

What experience is needed for RRB Scale III?

At least five years as an officer in a bank or financial institution, with a 50% bachelor’s degree.

Is there a prelims for RRB Scale II and III?

No. There is a single online exam followed by an interview.

Is local language required for RRB Scale II?

The notification makes local-language proficiency essential only for Scale I and Office Assistant.

Can I apply for Scale II IT and Scale I together?
