IBPS Clerk Reserve List Explained: 3,957 More Seats After Allotment

Checked 29 September 2026. From the CSA-XVI notification, the CSA-XV allotment notice (02.03.2026) and reserve-list notices of 15.06.2026 and 15.09.2026, the CSA-XIV notices, and our counts of the CSA-XV state lists.

Missing the IBPS Clerk main allotment does not always end the cycle. IBPS keeps a reserve list of about 30% of the vacancies in each category and, if banks report more vacancies, allots from it “three to four times” while it is valid. In CSA-XV that was not a formality: after 15,223 candidates were allotted in the main round of 2 March 2026, reserve-list phase 1 on 15 June 2026 allotted 3,957 more (both our counts of IBPS’s state lists), and phase 2 followed on 15 September 2026. Chandigarh’s 15 main-round allotments came separately, on 17 July 2026.

Where other pages get this wrong

Being on the IBPS Clerk reserve list is not a promise of a seat.

Commonly published instead: “Reserve list = waiting list; everyone on it gets allotted within the year.”

The notice says the list “does not guarantee provisional allotment”, and that if banks report no further vacancies, candidates on it “will not be considered”. In CSA-XV phase 1 reached the bottom score of many UR lists but not all of them, and the list expires when a fresh provisional allotment is made, if that comes before the one-year limit.

What IBPS says about the reserve list

The rules are in the CSA-XVI notification and were repeated word for word in the CSA-XV allotment notice. A reserve list “to the extent of approximately 30 percent of the vacancies under each category may be kept, subject to the availability of candidates”. If banks report more vacancies while it is valid, allotment “may be carried out three to four times”. The list “will expire automatically on the day which is one year after the date of Provisional Allotment or until a fresh provisional allotment is made, whichever is earlier, with or without any notice”.

Three other clauses matter. Candidates who are neither allotted nor on the reserve list are out of that cycle. A candidate who is allotted a bank and does not take up its offer forfeits their candidature; there is no second chance with another bank. And every allotment, main round or reserve list, still depends on passing the local language test and document checks at the bank.

Phase 1 came about three and a half months after the main round, and phase 2 three months after that. The previous cycle followed the same rhythm. CSA-XIV ran reserve-list rounds dated 31.07.2025, 30.09.2025 and 31.12.2025, and IBPS declared its whole allotment process complete on 02.03.2026, the same day CSA-XV’s main allotment was issued. That is the “until a fresh provisional allotment is made” clause at work.

The counts below are rows in IBPS’s state-wise lists, all categories together, counted by us. They include candidates who may not join; a list row is an allotment, not an appointment. The last two columns apply the 30% wording to the CSA-XVI indicative seats (Annexure I as updated on 29.09.2026) as a rough scale for next year (our arithmetic, not an IBPS figure).

Rows in IBPS’s CSA-XV state lists, counted by us. Phase 2 lists (15.09.2026) were not counted.

Across the country, phase 1 added about 26% to the 15,223 allotted on 2 March (our arithmetic; 3,957 ÷ 15,223 = 25.99%), not far from the 30% IBPS mentions. The ratio was highest in Meghalaya (7 on 16), Sikkim (8 on 24), Delhi (91 on 282) and Punjab (117 on 363), and lowest in DNH and Daman & Diu (1 on 34), Arunachal Pradesh (2 on 40), Andaman & Nicobar (1 on 15) and Puducherry (2 on 25). Lakshadweep, Ladakh and Chandigarh had no phase 1 allotment; Chandigarh’s own main round only came on 17 July 2026.

How far the CSA-XV reserve list went in your state

Main-round and phase 1 counts are rows we counted in IBPS’s state lists (all categories). UR scores: IBPS notices of 02.03.2026 (lowest score on the reserve list), 15.06.2026 and 15.09.2026. The “about 30%” figure applies IBPS’s wording to the CSA-XVI indicative seats and is our arithmetic, not an IBPS number.

Did the list run out? The UR evidence

The allotment notice of 2 March 2026 printed, in table III, the lowest score kept on the reserve list for every cell. The phase 1 and phase 2 notices printed the lowest score actually allotted. Where the two match, allotment reached the reserve list’s minimum score for that cell (our reading). That is not proof the list was exhausted: candidates tied on that score are ordered by date of birth, and the notices print the date-of-birth boundary, so some tied candidates may remain. The table below does this for UR in every state.

Lakshadweep25.75———No UR reserve-list score printed

In many states the UR phase 1 minimum equals the lowest reserve-list score, so phase 1 reached the bottom score of the UR list: Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh among them. Whether anyone tied on that score was left is not visible in the score tables. In Uttar Pradesh the list plainly was not exhausted: the lowest reserve-list score was 40.00, phase 1 reached 40.25 and phase 2 reached 40.13, so some UR candidates between 40.00 and 40.13 were still waiting after September. In Goa the UR allotments fell furthest below the main round, from a minimum of 30.63 to 24.25 in phase 2, and the list still ran down to 22.75.

The age tie-break, and what the notices print

When two candidates have the same score, IBPS ranks the older one first. Because scores are kept to two decimals, ties at the cut-off are common. The reserve-list notices print, for each state and category, the date of birth of the last candidate allotted at the minimum score. A candidate with exactly that score and a later date of birth was not reached; one with an earlier date of birth was. The same rule decides the main round.

What to do if you are on the list

There is nothing to apply for. IBPS says allotted candidates are told individually by email and SMS at the contact details given at registration, and lists appear on ibps.in about a month after each notice. Keep those details working, keep your documents ready (including a 10th-standard-or-above mark sheet or certificate showing you studied your opted local language, if you have one, since it waives the language test), and do not approach banks before they contact you. The CSA-XV list stays valid until 2 March 2027 at the latest, or until CSA-XVI allotment is made, if that comes earlier.

Practise it, don't just read it

The reserve list rewards the candidates just below the main-round line. A small difference in the overall Mains score can decide an allotment near a state and category cut-off.

What is the IBPS Clerk reserve list?

A list of about 30% of the vacancies in each category, kept after the main allotment, from which IBPS allots again if banks report more vacancies within the list’s validity.

How many were allotted from the CSA-XV reserve list?

By our count, 3,957 in phase 1 on 15.06.2026. Phase 2 followed on 15.09.2026; its lists were due by 15.10.2026.

How long is the IBPS Clerk reserve list valid?

One year from the provisional allotment date, or until a fresh provisional allotment is made, whichever is earlier.

How many times does IBPS allot from the reserve list?

The notification says three to four times, depending on vacancies reported by banks. CSA-XIV had rounds on 31.07.2025, 30.09.2025 and 31.12.2025.

Is a reserve-list place a guarantee of a job?

No. If banks report no further vacancies, candidates on the list are not considered.

How will I know if I am allotted from the reserve list?

IBPS says it informs allotted candidates individually by email and mobile, and publishes state lists on ibps.in.

What if I decline the bank allotted from the reserve list?

Not taking up the offer forfeits your candidature in that cycle.

What happens when scores are tied?

The older candidate is placed first. The notices print the cut-off date of birth for each cell.

Does the reserve list carry over to the next IBPS Clerk cycle?

No. It expires when the next cycle’s provisional allotment is made, if that comes before the one-year limit.

Do I need to pass the language test after a reserve-list allotment?

Yes, unless you are exempt. Candidates who produce a 10th-standard-or-above mark sheet or certificate showing they studied the opted local language need not take it; everyone else allotted must qualify it before joining, as in the main round.
