Checked 28 September 2026. Every input is from the official GATE 2023–2026 statistical reports and cut-off pages. Score conversions, candidates at or above a mark and qualified shares are our arithmetic. GATE 2027 values are not known until 19 March 2027.
GATE Geomatics is a small, low-scoring paper, and that changes what a “good score” means. In 2026 the average mark was 13 out of 100, 44% of those who appeared scored under 10, the general cut-off sat on the rule’s floor of 25, and only 9 candidates reached 50 marks. The topper’s 61 marks were capped at a score of 1000, as were the 2025 topper’s 61.67. On the 2026 scale about 43 marks is a score of 700 and about 49 marks is 800. This guide sets out four years of official figures, explains the one year that broke the pattern (2024), and gives you a calculator to read your mock-test marks against each year.

Where other pages get this wrong
The official GATE 2026 GE qualifying marks are 25 (General), 22.5 (OBC-NCL/EWS) and 16.6 (SC/ST/PwD). In 2025 they were 25.7, 23.1 and 17.1.
Commonly published instead: Testbook’s “GATE Qualifying Marks 2026” (dated 28 Sep 2026) lists the 2026 GE cut-off as 26 / 23 / 17.1, which are rounded 2025 figures. Govteka’s GATE GE 2027 guide gives an “expected cut-off” of 55–65 for General, more than twice any real GE cut-off.

Official report figures (M̄t rounded here). 2024 was the easy paper: both lines jumped.
Why 2024 looks different, and why 2026 hit the floor
The qualifying mark is set by a rule. For GEN it is μ + σ (the mean plus one standard deviation of all who appeared), but never below 25 and, from GATE 2025, never above 40. OBC-NCL and EWS get 0.9 of it and SC, ST and PwD two-thirds.
In 2024 the GE paper was much easier: the mean was 27.5 and 430 candidates scored 40 or more (only 52 did in 2026). μ + σ came to 41.10, and the 2024 rule had no ceiling, so the cut-off was 41.1. Under today’s rule it would have been 40. In 2026 the opposite happened: μ + σ was only 23.45, so the floor of 25 applied. GE’s cut-off now reflects the rule, not the field. That is why comparing raw cut-offs across years misleads, and why the score (below) is the better guide.
| Year | Rule in force | μ + σ | GEN cut-off | What decided it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 25 or μ + σ, whichever larger | 28.74 | 28.7 | μ + σ |
| 2024 | 25 or μ + σ, whichever larger (no cap) | 41.10 | 41.1 | μ + σ, above today’s cap of 40 |
| 2025 | max(25, min(40, μ + σ)) | 25.80 | 25.7 | μ + σ (printed 25.7) |
| 2026 | max(25, min(40, μ + σ)) | 23.45 | 25 | The floor of 25 |

Marks → score on each year’s field
The score is 350 + 550 × (M − Mq) ÷ (M̄t − Mq), capped at 1000, where M is your mark, Mq the GEN qualifying mark and M̄t the top-candidates’ mean. GE is a single-session paper, so no normalisation applies. Because Mq and M̄t are both low in GE, each mark is worth a lot: on the 2026 field one mark was about 19 score points.

GATE Geomatics marks → score → rank calculator
Enter your expected marks out of 100 (after negative marking). The calculator applies the official GATE score formula using the real qualifying mark and topper average of the year you pick, and estimates a rank from that year's official mark distribution.
Estimates only. Your real score depends on the 2027 field, which is not known until the result on 19 March 2027. Qualifying marks by category are the official figures for that year. Rank is interpolated between official mark bands and is approximate.

Your GATE Geomatics score, read against four years of official rank bands
Enter a GATE score out of 1000. The tool finds the band it falls in and shows the All India Ranks that band covered in each year’s official statistical report.
GE score-band → rank tables of the GATE 2023–2026 statistical reports, as printed (bands 101–200 up to 901–1000). The same numbers are in the table above.
Put the two tables together. On the 2026 field, 38 marks (a score of 600) was a rank of about 65; 43 marks (700) about 38; 49 marks (800) about 14. A “good score” in GE is therefore a mark in the 40s, not the 60s and 70s quoted for large papers. Aim at the 2025 and 2026 columns: 2024 was an unusually easy paper, and its marks-to-score conversion is far harsher.

A report error to avoid quoting
The reports also print a qualifying score for each category. For 2024 GE the SC/ST/PwD figure is printed as 130, but the official formula with the SC mark of 27.4, Mq 41.1 and M̄t 73.27 gives 116. The OBC figure of 278 matches the formula, and the 2024 report’s SC-score column is scrambled across several papers, so we take 130 as an error. Quote the qualifying marks (27.4), which are consistent everywhere.
| Year | OBC-EWS score, printed | SC-ST-PwD score, printed |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 295 | 167 |
| 2024 | 278 | 130 (formula: 116) |

Practise it, don't just read it
On the 2026 field, every mark above the cut-off was worth about 19 score points. Remote sensing carried about 17 of Part A’s 55 marks every year; our Microwave Remote Sensing Principles quiz covers one of its most-asked parts.
The ProSyllabus GATE Geomatics library has three topic quizzes today: Map Projections and Distortions and Coordinate Systems and Datums (Part B1 Maps and Part A GNSS ground) and Microwave Remote Sensing Principles (Part A Remote Sensing), each with a worked explanation for every option.
What is the GATE GE cut-off for 2026?
The qualifying marks for Geomatics Engineering in GATE 2026 were 25 (General), 22.5 (OBC-NCL/EWS) and 16.6 (SC/ST/PwD), out of 100.
What was the GATE Geomatics cut-off in 2025, 2024 and 2023?
2025: 25.7 / 23.1 / 17.1. 2024: 41.1 / 36.9 / 27.4. 2023: 28.7 / 25.8 / 19.1 (General / OBC-NCL-EWS / SC-ST-PwD).
Why was the GATE GE cut-off so high in 2024?
The 2024 paper was easier (mean 27.5), so μ + σ was 41.10, and the 2024 rule had no upper limit. From GATE 2025 the general qualifying mark is capped at 40.
What is a good score in GATE Geomatics?
On the 2026 field about 38 marks gave a score of 600 (rank about 65), 43 marks 700 (rank about 38) and 49 marks 800 (rank about 14). Around 59 marks scored 1000.
How is the GATE GE score calculated?
Score = 350 + 550 × (M − Mq) ÷ (M̄t − Mq), capped at 1000. GE is a single-session paper, so no normalisation applies.
How many candidates write GATE Geomatics?
2,592 appeared in 2026 out of 3,582 registered; 446 qualified (17.2%).
Is there a separate rank for Part B1 and Part B2?
No. The brochure states that section-wise scores and ranks are not provided for GE. Everyone gets one score and one rank.
