Understanding the XH Paper Structure
The Humanities and Social Sciences (XH) paper is divided into three distinct parts. You must clear the aggregate to secure a high GATE score.
• Part 1: General Aptitude (Compulsory): 15 Marks.
• Part 2: Reasoning & Comprehension (XH-B1): 25 Marks. Compulsory for all XH candidates. Tests analytical and linguistic skills.
• Part 3: Economics (XH-C1): 60 Marks. The core subject section containing 40 questions.

Core Syllabus: The Technical Pillars
To target an AIR under 100, you must master these domain-specific areas:
1. Microeconomics: Consumer theory (Utility maximization), Production & Costs, Market structures (Perfect competition to Oligopoly), and Game Theory (Nash Equilibrium).
2. Macroeconomics: National Income accounting, IS-LM model, Phillips Curve, Inflation-Unemployment trade-off, and Solow Growth Model.
3. Statistics & Econometrics: Probability theory, Sampling distributions, Simple & Multiple Linear Regression, and Gauss-Markov assumptions.
4. Indian Economy: Recent trends in growth, fiscal policy, poverty, and industrial performance post-1991.
Success Roadmap for 2026
1. Prioritize Section B1 (Comprehension): These 25 marks are often "low-hanging fruit." Practice reading comprehension and logical reasoning to ensure a 20+ score here.
2. Mathematical Rigor: GATE Economics is not purely descriptive. Practice Lagrange multipliers for optimization and matrix algebra for Econometrics.
3. Master the NATs: Numerical Answer Type questions carry no negative marking. Practice calculating Elasticity, Multipliers, and Regression coefficients using the virtual calculator.
4. PYQ Analysis (2021-2025): Since the XH paper was introduced in 2021, analyze all available papers to understand how IITs frame interdisciplinary questions.
