Checked 29 September 2026. From each PSU’s own advertisements and cut-off notices, 2024–2026, POWERGRID’s ET-2027 advertisement of 24 September 2026 and NSPCL’s Advertisement 02A/2026. PSUs change disciplines, papers and vacancies every year; read the current advertisement before relying on any row here.
Lists of “PSUs through GATE ECE” usually name a dozen organisations. Checked against the PSUs’ own 2024–2026 advertisements, three were verified in this pass as recruiting Electronics graduates on a GATE EC score: POWERGRID (with its subsidiary CTUIL), NTPC and NPCIL. A fourth has since announced a GATE-2027 intake: NSPCL, the NTPC-SAIL joint venture, whose Advertisement 02A/2026 lists Electronics (EC) among five disciplines. Several others that appear on those lists either run their own computer-based test, take Electronics graduates through a different GATE paper, or have no Electronics discipline at all. This guide sets out what each of the three offered, the cut-offs they published, and what the others actually do. Each PSU uses a different scale — POWERGRID raw GATE marks, NTPC All India Rank, NPCIL GATE score — so the numbers below cannot be compared directly without converting them.
POWERGRID Notice 4 (31.10.2025); NTPC notice 27.07.2026; NPCIL notice 19.05.2026; NSPCL Advertisement 02A/2026.
Where other pages get this wrong
ONGC’s 2026 recruitment (Advt 2/2026) is “through Computer Based Test (CBT)” — held on 6 September 2026 — with 52 posts and no Electronics stream.
Commonly published instead: PW: “The selection process does not involve a separate written test … Shortlisting relies directly on the candidate’s GATE marks”; ExamDetail lists “Electronics & Comm. Engineering — EC — 30–50” GATE 2026 posts at ONGC.
ONGC Advt 2/2026: Petroleum 9, Mechanical 27, Chemical 10, Instrumentation 2, Geology 4.

Which PSU recruitments take your GATE EC year?
Pick the GATE year of your EC score. The list shows the 2025–27 PSU recruitments that accept GATE EC, from each PSU’s own advertisement.
Official PSU advertisements and notices (sources below). Not through GATE EC: ONGC 2026 (own CBT, no Electronics stream), IOCL and BHEL (own tests), GAIL (Electronics graduates only via GATE IN), Grid-India, NHPC and DVC. Cut-offs are on different scales (GATE marks, All India Rank, GATE score) and cannot be compared across PSUs.
POWERGRID: the cut-offs in GATE marks
| Round | UR | OBC-NCL | EWS | SC | ST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GATE-2024, 1st call | 52.67 | 47.33 | 45.67 | 40 | 39.33 |

POWERGRID cut-off marks for calling to document verification, group discussion and interview (Electronics, GATE paper EC). These are raw GATE marks, not scores. GATE-2025 PwBD (I/c): 18.67.
Read these against the GATE mark tables (the marks-vs-rank guide in this series): 52.67 marks in 2024 was a score of about 760 — roughly the top 150 of 63,092 who appeared — and 62.33 marks in 2025 a score of about 790, roughly the top 170 of 81,475 (our conversions with each year’s official formula inputs). With only six posts in the 2025 cycle, about six candidates were called per post (35 shortlisted). POWERGRID’s final GATE-2025 cut-off for the pre-employment medical, combining GATE, group discussion and interview, was 65.015 UR and 67.556 OBC-NCL — higher for OBC-NCL than UR, as printed, which happens when a category has one or two posts.
| POWERGRID ET-2025 final cut-off (Electronics) | Score |
|---|---|
| UR | 65.015 |
| OBC-NCL | 67.556 |
| EWS | 55.771 |
| PwBD (I/c) | 27.465 |

NTPC: the cut-offs in All India Rank
| Notice | UR | EWS | OBC | SC | ST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EET-2024 (GATE-2024) DV shortlist | 479 | 1,574 | 1,254 | 3,224 | NA |
| EET-2025 first shortlist (16.04.2026) | 304 | 528 | 489 | 875 | 1,999 |
| EET-2025 “Replacement LOI” | 489 | 1,218 | 839 | 2,062 | 2,362 |
| EET-2025 as on 07.07.2026 | 679 | 1,780 | 937 | 2,062 | 2,362 |
| EET-2025 as on 27.07.2026 | 738 | 2,062 | 1,034 | 2,062 | 2,362 |
NTPC cut-off notices, Electronics (GATE All India Rank, not scores). NTPC advertised Electronics and Instrumentation as one 125-post line but published separate cut-offs.
From the table above: each later list reached further down the GATE-2025 ranks.
NTPC works down the rank list as offers are declined: the UR cut-off moved from rank 304 to 738 over four lists in 2026. Rank 738 in GATE-2025 EC sat in the 600–700 score band (ranks 469–1,275), which in 2025 meant roughly 51–53 raw marks (our reading of the mark tables). For EET-2027, NTPC will use GATE 2027 marks only — and so will NSPCL, its joint venture with SAIL (power plants at Bhilai, Durgapur and Rourkela), whose Advertisement 02A/2026 takes Electronics through GATE-2027 and leaves posts, eligibility and dates to a detailed advertisement after the exam.
NPCIL: a GATE-score shortlist, then interview only
| Stage (Electronics, ET-2026) | UR | EWS | OBC-NCL | SC | ST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GATE-score cut-off for interview (19.05.2026) | 698 | 585 | 605 | 495 | 475 |
| Interview marks — selected (03.07.2026) | 75.285 | 71.857 | 68.714 | 66.857 | 64.428 |
| Interview marks — after waitlist 2 (25.08.2026) | 72.571 | 71.857 | 67.571 | 66.714 | 64.143 |
NPCIL notices 19.05.2026 (scanned; values read from the page image), 03.07.2026 and 25.08.2026. Any of GATE 2024, 2025 or 2026 counted. Electronics had the second-highest UR score cut-off after Civil (746); Electrical 630, Mechanical 618.
NPCIL is the clearest case of GATE as a filter, not a ranking: the score only decides who is interviewed, and “no weightage will be given to GATE Score” in the final selection. A GATE score of 698 corresponds to about 55 marks in the 2026 EC paper (our conversion) — between the 1,430 candidates who scored 50 or more that year and the 318 who scored 60 or more. The score could come from GATE 2024, 2025 or 2026, each with its own conversion.

Every PSU cut-off above sits well inside the top 2,000 of the paper. The GATE EC quizzes help lift the subject marks that get there.
The ProSyllabus GATE EC library has topic quizzes on diode circuits and clippers, Boolean algebra and Karnaugh maps, transfer functions and block diagrams, signals and systems, Maxwell’s equations, and antennas and propagation — the first quiz is free.
Which PSUs recruit through GATE EC in 2026-27?
