Checked 25 September 2026. From the DHA Manual for Licensing Healthcare Professionals v1.3 (July 2025), the DHA assessment manual (May 2025), the Sheryan FAQ and the CBT guideline. DHA's fee pages were unavailable; only the USD 240 exam fee is printed here.
Passing the DHA exam does not license you. It is one of two checks — the other is primary source verification (PSV) of your documents — that together earn a registration, which a Dubai employer then turns into a licence. DHA sets out the whole path in its licensing manual (July 2025); this guide follows it step by step, and says plainly which figures DHA does not publish.
DHA licensing manual v1.3; Sheryan FAQ.
The path, step by step
| Step | What you do | What DHA says |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Create a Sheryan account and run the self-assessment | A free preliminary evaluation; no documents at this stage. Not eligible → a paid "Review Eligibility" service |
| 2 | Get your Eligibility ID | Allocated in Sheryan; needed to book with Prometric |
| 3 | Start PSV | Delegated to a third-party verification agency; qualifications, experience, licences, a good standing certificate |
| 4 | Book and sit the exam | At prometric.com/DHA; card payment; passport must match Sheryan |
| 5 | Receive the result | Pass or Fail in Sheryan, within 2 working days |
| 6 | Apply for registration ("Get Registered") | Needs a completed PSV and a passed exam; pay the review fee |
| 7 | Registration certificate issued | Your name on the Dubai Medical Registry; valid one year |
| 8 | An employer activates your licence | Registration is not a permit to practise until a licensed facility activates it |
Steps 3 and 4 can run together. DHA's licensing manual says: "Both PSV and CBT steps can be done simultaneously." Starting verification while you prepare is the single biggest time saver on this path.
Where other pages get this wrong
You do not have to finish PSV before booking the DHA exam.
Commonly published instead: "Complete DataFlow first, then book the exam."
The DHA licensing manual (v1.3, July 2025) says both PSV and the computer-based test "can be done simultaneously". Registration needs both to be complete, but neither waits for the other.
Self-assessment first
The first step costs nothing and saves the most. DHA's self-assessment tool in Sheryan asks for your qualification and experience and returns a preliminary result — eligible, and for which title, or not — without any documents being uploaded. If it says you are eligible you move to "Get Registered" and the Eligibility ID; if not, DHA offers a paid "Review Eligibility" service in which it looks at your case in more detail. Doing the self-assessment before paying the USD 240 exam fee avoids the worst outcome on this path: passing an exam for a title your documents do not support.
Primary source verification (PSV)
| Document | Note |
|---|---|
| Qualifications (degree, transcripts) | Verified with your university |
| Experience certificates | Verified with each employer; the PQR does not accept pharma-company or sales-rep experience toward pharmacy titles |
| Licences and registrations | For an Indian pharmacist, State Pharmacy Council registration (our reading) |
| Good standing certificate | Dated no more than six months before the date you submit the application |
| Exam-exemption proof | Only if you claim an exemption |
From the DHA licensing manual. DHA delegates PSV to a third-party agency; DataFlow is the one commonly named, though the manual does not name it. The Sheryan FAQ gives 15 working days from payment for a new PSV report and says PSV reports have no validity period. DHA also accepts PSV reports transferred from DOH, SHA and MOHAP.
| PSV outcome | What happens |
|---|---|
| Positive | You can proceed to registration |
| Unable to Verify | An issuing body did not confirm; you may appeal (twice) |
| Discrepancy | Negative feedback on a document; you may appeal (once) |
Which Indian body DHA's verifier accepts for the good standing certificate — the State Pharmacy Council, where Indian pharmacists are registered under the Pharmacy Act, 1948, or another body — is not stated in any DHA document we found. Ask the verifier before you request it; a certificate older than six months will not be accepted.
Documents to gather before you start
- Passport — the name on it must match Sheryan and your Prometric booking exactly.
- Degree certificate and transcripts — B.Pharm, Pharm.D or D.Pharm, and any postgraduate qualification.
- Experience letters for every job you will count, with dates and your role; the PQR asks two years after qualifying for Pharmacist.
- Home registration — for an Indian pharmacist, State Pharmacy Council registration (our reading).
- Good standing certificate — dated no more than six months before you submit.
- Internship or residency certificates if your route depends on them (e.g. a clinical residency).
From the DHA licensing manual (v1.3) and the PQR; the list is a checklist, not DHA's official form.
What it costs
Add up your DHA costs
Only the exam fee is published in DHA's guideline. Enter the other fees exactly as Sheryan and the verifier show them to you, then today's exchange rates.
| DHA exam fee (PHO5481 / PHO5482 / PHT5451) | 240 USD |
| PSV / verification fee (from the verifier's quote) | AED |
| DHA registration review fee (from Sheryan) | AED |
| Anything else Sheryan charges (e.g. Review Eligibility) | AED |
No exchange rate is pre-filled. Exam fees are non-refundable, including for rescheduling, cancellation and no-shows (DHA assessment manual §4.24).
Fee figures you will find on coaching sites — for the application, PSV and licensing — vary by hundreds of dirhams between sources and could not be checked against a DHA page (DHA's service pages were unavailable when we checked). We print none of them; Sheryan shows the real fee before you pay.
Booking, rescheduling and no-shows
For the computer-based test, DHA's assessment manual allows rescheduling or cancelling on Prometric's website five calendar days before the exam (an oral assessment has different rules: one reschedule only); Prometric charges a centre-specific fee for the change. Exam fees are non-refundable — including for rescheduling, cancellation and not turning up — but a cancellation or a missed exam is not counted as a failed attempt. On the day, bring a valid passport whose details match those in Sheryan; a mismatch is the easiest way to lose a booking you have already paid for.
Results, registration and renewal
| Stage | Rule | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Exam result | Pass or Fail uploaded to Sheryan within 2 working days; the score is not shared | Assessment manual §7.2.14 |
| Registration | Valid one year from issue (§10.12); not a permit to practise until activated (assessment manual §4.7) | DHA manuals |
| Renewing an unactivated registration | Apply within 90 days before expiry; otherwise it is cancelled and you file a new registration application | Licensing manual §12.2–12.3 |
| Licence | Activated by a DHA-licensed facility; renewable for 1, 2 or 3 years | Licensing manual |
| CPD | 20 points a year for pharmacists, multiplied for 2- or 3-year renewals | Licensing manual §15.3 |
Where other pages get this wrong
A DHA pass does not stay valid for five years.
Commonly published instead: "Your DHA exam result is valid for 5 years."
What DHA issues after the exam and PSV is a registration valid for one year from the date of issue. It must be activated into a licence by an employer — or renewed within 90 days before it expires — or you file a new registration. DHA's licensing manual (§7.8) does exempt from re-assessment someone who passed the DHA assessment for the same title within five years, with no gap in practice, so a lapse does not automatically mean retaking the exam.
Two practical notes on the registration year. First, it is not a licence — you cannot work under it — so the year is your window to secure a job with a DHA-licensed facility, which then activates the licence. Second, if the year is running out without an offer, renew within the 90 days before expiry; if it lapses, you apply for registration again (with the five-year assessment exemption in §7.8 if you qualify). If you already hold a UAE licence from DOH, MOHAP or SHA, DHA accepts the PSV report transferred from that authority, and a valid UAE licence exempts you from the DHA exam provided you did not exceed the permitted attempts.
Our illustration from DHA's own figures: 15 working days for a new PSV report and 2 for the exam result. Preparation time, employer paperwork and appeals are extra and have no official clock.
Practise it, don't just read it
The exam is the step you control most. Start PSV, then spend the waiting weeks on topic quizzes.
The ProSyllabus DHA pharmacist library has topic quizzes for Pharmacology and Mechanisms of Action, Pharmaceutics and Dosage Forms, Pharmacy Practice and Dispensing, Clinical Therapeutics, Pharmaceutical Calculations, Drug Interactions and Pharmacovigilance, Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy Basics and UAE Pharmacy Law and Ethics. Each question comes with an explanation.
What is the process to get a DHA pharmacist licence?
Sheryan account and free self-assessment, Eligibility ID, primary source verification, the Prometric exam, registration, and activation by a DHA-licensed employer. PSV and the exam can run at the same time.
How long does DHA PSV take?
The Sheryan FAQ says fifteen working days from payment for a new PSV report. Appeals after an Unable to Verify or Discrepancy result take longer.
How long is DHA registration valid?
One year from issue. A licensed facility must activate it into a licence, or you renew it within 90 days before expiry.
Can I take the DHA exam before PSV is complete?
Yes. DHA's licensing manual says PSV and the computer-based test can be done simultaneously.
Does DHA accept a PSV report from another UAE authority?
Yes. The licensing manual says DHA accepts PSV reports transferred from DOH, SHA and MOHAP.
What if my PSV result is Unable to Verify?
The licensing manual allows two appeals after an Unable to Verify result and one after a Discrepancy result. Contact the institution that did not respond before you appeal.
How many CPD points does a pharmacist need in Dubai?
Twenty a year, multiplied for two- or three-year licence renewals.
What is the DHA pharmacist licence fee?
Only the exam fee (USD 240) is published in DHA's guideline. Registration and verification fees are shown in Sheryan and by the verifier when you pay.
