Checked 12 October 2026. The 15 January date is uni-assist's "often", not a rule — many Master's courses close earlier. The verification and courier buffers are ours. As of 12 October 2026 g.a.s.t. had published only the first dMAT date in India (26 September 2026).
If you want to start a German Master's in the summer semester 2027 and have not sent your APS documents yet, you are working against a short clock. This guide does the arithmetic from the deadline uni-assist says is common for summer courses, shows why the comfortable courier date has already passed for most applicants, and sets out what still works — including the one rule in the new dMAT procedure that was written for exactly this situation.
Deadline: uni-assist (official). Courier dates: our arithmetic with our planning buffers.
The arithmetic for a 15 January 2027 deadline
uni-assist says the application deadline is often 15 January for courses starting in the summer semester, and that many universities set earlier deadlines for Master's courses. It also recommends applying at least eight weeks before the deadline, so that it can tell you in time if something is missing. Counting back eight weeks from 15 January 2027 gives 20 November 2026.
If your university or course requires the APS certificate when you apply through uni-assist, it has to exist before that step; confirm this with the university. APS India gives no fixed processing time — its registration page says only that verification takes at least two weeks — so our planner allows five weeks: an archived 2022 notice's "usually within a month" after opening, plus a week — one more week if you pay by bank transfer, because APS matches transfers by hand, and five days for the courier. Those buffers are ours, not APS figures.
| Step | Pay online (CCAvenue) | Pay by bank transfer |
|---|---|---|
| University deadline (typical summer course) | 15 Jan 2027 | 15 Jan 2027 |
| Apply to uni-assist by (deadline − 8 weeks) | 20 Nov 2026 | 20 Nov 2026 |
| Verification buffer (ours) | 5 weeks | 6 weeks |
| Courier buffer (ours, calendar days) | 5 days | 5 days |
| Our target courier date | 11 Oct 2026 | 4 Oct 2026 |
Both target dates fall on a Sunday; in practice, dispatch by the working day before. If you are reading this after those dates, you are behind the comfortable plan, not out of time. The buffers are deliberately cautious, and some files are verified faster. What you cannot do is make up time with an incomplete file: APS processes only complete applications. Do not plan to add missing or updated academic documents later with the dMAT certificate; APS may still request documents during verification.
Where other pages get this wrong
The 15 January date is not every university's deadline.
Commonly published instead: Many timelines treat 15 January as the summer deadline for all courses.
uni-assist says 15 January is often the summer deadline, but many universities set earlier deadlines for Master's courses, and some require a VPD from uni-assist that you submit to the university yourself. Your own course's deadline may be weeks earlier.
What still works if you are late
In this order
- Find your real deadline today. Check every course on your list on the university's own page. If any closes before mid-January, that course decides your plan.
- Pay online, not by transfer. APS says manual wiring lengthens verification. Paying through CCAvenue at registration removes that delay.
- Send a complete file in one go. Use the official June 2026 checklist; check anabin for your institution first, because the ₹18,000 fee is non-refundable.
- Warn your college and school. Ask them to answer APS India's verification email quickly and from an official address. A "non-support" status — an institution that has not answered — can stall verification.
- Write to each university before its deadline. Ask whether you may apply with the APS certificate to follow, or should apply for the next intake. Only the university can answer.

Do it in one evening
Your own target date — from your course's real deadline and payment method — takes ten seconds in the free planner; the kit's page 5 shows the same arithmetic for three cases.
The free APS planner counts back from your university deadline to a target courier date. The APS Certificate Kit is seven printable pages built on the June 2026 leaflet: the checklist by degree, the dMAT rule, a deadline plan worked for three cases, five templates and a tracker. The dMAT and the summer 2027 intake
Summer 2027 is the first intake the dMAT requirement covers. If your previous degree is in one of the affected fields — Engineering; Commerce, Accounting, Finance or Economics; or Business or Management — and no exemption applies, the dMAT certificate is a required part of your APS documentation.
The first and, as of 12 October 2026, only published dMAT date in India was 26 September 2026, with registration closing on 15 September and certificates available from 12 October. The official g.a.s.t. page did not list a second date when we checked. If you are covered and did not sit the first test, check d-mat.de regularly and register the moment a date appears: seats are allocated first come, first served, and APS India cannot reserve them.
There is one rule written for this situation. The APS dMAT page, updated on 13 July 2026, says applicants for the summer semester 2027 intake or later may submit their APS documents before the dMAT certificate is available, and that APS may begin verifying the other documents in advance, which it says may help avoid delays with tight university deadlines. The APS certificate can only be issued once the dMAT certificate has been submitted and checked. So if you are covered: courier the rest of your file now, then send the dMAT certificate as soon as it is issued.
| Your situation | dMAT | What to do now |
|---|---|---|
| Not in an affected field | Not required | Courier your complete file as soon as possible |
| Affected field, sat the 26 Sep 2026 test | Certificate available from 12 Oct 2026 in the g.a.s.t. portal | Download it and send it with your APS file, or straight after it |
| Affected field, did not sit the test | Required; no further date published as of 12 Oct 2026 | Courier the rest of the file now; watch d-mat.de; ask your universities |
| APS registration completed, or complete documents shipped, before 29 Jun 2026 | Exempt for that APS procedure | Keep proof of shipment |
| Officially confirmed exchange, double-degree or partnership programme | Exempt | Send the programme confirmation with your group number |
When to switch to winter 2027/28 instead
If your real deadline is close, your college is slow to answer verification queries, or you are covered by the dMAT with no test date in sight, the winter semester 2027/28 may be the better target. uni-assist says winter deadlines are often 15 July, again with earlier dates for many Master's courses. For a 15 July 2027 deadline, our planner gives a target courier date of 27 March 2027 when paying online: it adds two weeks because a courier date in April falls in the busy season for winter-intake files.
| Intake | Typical deadline | Our target courier date, online payment |
|---|---|---|
| Summer 2027 | 15 Jan 2027 (often; earlier for many Master's) | 11 Oct 2026 |
| Winter 2027/28 | 15 Jul 2027 (often; earlier for many Master's) | 27 Mar 2027 (includes our peak-season margin) |
Switching intake does not change the dMAT rule: it applies to the summer 2027 intake and every later intake. It does change your margin. A winter 2027/28 plan gives you time to sit the dMAT if you are covered, to chase your college, and to fix anything APS asks for without risking a deadline.
A certificate obtained now is not wasted if you move to winter. APS India's DigZert leaflet says candidates generally need to apply for APS certification only once and that the certificate is valid indefinitely once issued. The current FAQ adds one condition: if you complete further qualifications that change your admission category, a new evaluation may be required.
Frequently asked questions
Is it too late to apply for APS for the summer 2027 intake?
Not necessarily, but for a typical 15 January deadline our cautious target courier date was 11 October 2026 paying online. If you are later, send a complete file immediately, pay online, and ask each university whether the APS certificate can follow your application.
What is the deadline for the summer intake in Germany?
uni-assist says it is often 15 January, but many universities set earlier deadlines for Master's courses. Check each course on the university's own page.
Do I need the dMAT for the summer 2027 intake?
Yes, if your previous degree is in an affected field and no exemption applies. Summer 2027 is the first intake the requirement covers.
I missed the 26 September dMAT. What now?
As of 12 October 2026 no further dMAT date in India was published. Courier the rest of your APS file now — the dMAT page allows the dMAT certificate to follow — and watch d-mat.de for the next date.
Should I switch to the winter 2027/28 intake?
If your deadline is close, your college is slow, or you need a dMAT date that is not yet published, winter 2027/28 gives a comfortable margin. Its deadline is often 15 July 2027.
Will my APS certificate still be valid for a later intake?
APS's DigZert leaflet says the certificate is valid indefinitely once issued. A new evaluation may be needed only if later qualifications change your admission category.
