Checked 30 September 2026. From the APPGCET-2026 test list, test-course codes V4 and Instruction Booklet V4. The 2027 lists are not out; the 2025 list had the same 31 codes.
AP PGCET is not one exam. It is 31 separate tests, each with its own paper, its own rank list and its own set of PG courses. The test you write decides which courses you can be allotted, so the most expensive mistake an applicant makes is not a wrong answer on exam day — it is picking the wrong test code in February. This guide maps every test to the courses it feeds, prints the degree rules that knock people out, and shows what it costs to write more than one test.
Where other pages get this wrong
There are 31 AP PGCET test codes, and 30 of them were held in 2026. Seventeen is the number of universities, not tests.
Commonly published instead: several pages, including our own earlier notice board, speak of "17 test codes" and "twelve to fifteen participating universities".
The official list of entrance test names prints 31 codes (101 to 315), and the 2026 examination schedule held 30 — Polymer Science (311) was not scheduled and has no 2026 syllabus or master paper. The booklet lists 17 participating universities. Mixing the two numbers up leads applicants to think their subject has no test when it does.

The 31 tests at a glance, with the seats behind each one
The table lists every test code in the three official groups. The seat columns are our own sums: we took the 1,348 rows of the booklet's tentative seat list and mapped each course to its test code using the official test-and-course-code file. "Convener" is the seat count the counselling fills; "with EWS" adds the 10% supernumerary EWS seats. Courses that accept more than one test (such as M.Sc. Geoinformatics) are left out of these per-test figures, so they are a floor, not a ceiling.

Two things stand out. First, the seats are heavily concentrated: Chemical Sciences (310) alone has 5,589 convener seats, Commerce (201) 3,602, Life Sciences (301) 2,929, Computer Science (314) 2,216 and Mathematical Sciences (306) 2,116. Second, several tests feed only a handful of seats — Tamil (108) 26, Sanskrit (105) 51, Sericulture (304) 55, M.F.A. (110) 45. A small test is not a harder test, but it is a smaller pool, and one wrong choice of college in counselling matters more.
What each test code opens: the courses behind the big tests
The test-and-course-code file maps 150-plus PG course codes (PG001 onwards) to the 31 tests. Most tests open one family of degrees, but some are wide umbrellas. The table below prints the courses we checked line by line against the booklet, with the degree each one asks for. The rule column is shortened; the booklet wording is in the tool further down.
| Course code | Course | Test to write | Degree the booklet asks for |
|---|---|---|---|
| PG001 | M.A. English | 101 English | Any non-professional graduate degree with English in Part I or Part II. |
| PG049 | M.A. Economics | 116 Economics | B.A./B.Sc. with Economics (or Economics as a main subject with four papers). B.Com. and B.B.A. only at AKNU. |
| PG054 | M.Com. | 201 Commerce | B.Com., or B.A. with Accountancy under Part I or II, or B.Com. Computers/Computer Applications, or B.B.A./B.B.M., or B.Com. Honours/Company Secretaryship. |
| PG061 | M.Ed. | 202 Education | B.Ed. (General, Language Pandits or Special Education), B.El.Ed., M.A. (Education), or D.El.Ed. with an undergraduate degree; the booklet adds "with 50% marks in each". |
| PG063 | M.P.Ed. | 203 Physical Education | B.P.Ed. or B.P.E. of any recognised university (the booklet also prints "B.P.Ed. with 50% marks"). |
| PG098 | M.Sc. Botany | 303 Botany | B.Sc. with Botany and any two other science subjects (vocational included), or B.Sc. Botany and Chemistry with another biology subject. |
| PG100 | M.Sc. Zoology | 305 Zoology | B.Sc. with Zoology and two other science subjects, or B.Sc. Fishery Science/Aquaculture/Industrial Fish and Fisheries. |
| PG103 | M.A./M.Sc. Mathematics | 306 Mathematical Sciences | B.A./B.Sc. with Mathematics as a main subject. |
| PG104 | M.Sc. Statistics | 307 Statistics | B.A./B.Sc. with Statistics and Mathematics, or a degree with Statistics as main. |
| PG106 | M.Sc. Physics | 308 Physical Sciences | B.Sc. with Physics and Mathematics. |
| PG123 | M.Sc. Chemistry (Analytical, Organic and the other chemistry courses) | 310 Chemical Sciences | B.Sc./B.Sc. (Vocational) with Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Industrial Chemistry as one of the subjects. |
| PG141 | M.Sc. Computer Science | 314 Computer Science | B.Sc. Computer Science (or Honours), B.C.A., B.A. Computer Applications, B.Com. Computer Applications, or B.Sc. Computer Applications with Mathematics at Intermediate/10+2. |

The umbrella tests: one paper, many courses
111 Humanities & Social Sciences is the widest arts test. It feeds Master of Social Work (PG027), M.A. Journalism and Mass Communication (PG023), M.A. Communication & Journalism (PG024), Anthropology (PG025), Sociology (PG026), Buddhist Studies (PG022), Yoga (PG030 and PG030A), Master of Human Resource Management (PG031), Master of Library & Information Science (PG032), Population Studies (PG033), Rural Development (PG034) and M.A. Tourism (PG052). If you want an MSW or an MLISc, this is your paper, not English or General.
102 General feeds M.A. Linguistics, Philosophy, Human Rights & Duties, Gender Studies, Women Studies, Adult Education, Comparative Dravidian Literature, Cultural Heritage and Applied Linguistics & Translation Studies. 301 Life Sciences is the widest science umbrella: Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Virology, Food Science, Genetics, Environmental Sciences, Aquaculture, Bioinformatics, Forensic Science-DNA Fingerprinting and more — over 30 course codes in the file.
314 Computer Science feeds M.Sc. Computer Science (PG141), Computational Data Science (PG142), Geoinformatics (PG146), M.S. Data Science (PG153A) and M.Sc. Data Science (PG153). The booklet adds a useful footnote: candidates qualified in test 314 are also eligible for M.Sc. Digital Forensic and Information Security (PG120) and M.Sc. Cyber Security (PG121), which sit under Electronics (309). M.Sc. Geoinformatics (PG146) is the most open course of all: it is listed under 306, 307, 308, 309, 310, 312, 314 and 315.
310 Chemical Sciences feeds every chemistry M.Sc. — Chemistry, Analytical, Environmental, Inorganic, Organic, Physical, Applied, Food/Drugs/Water analysis, Oils and Fats — plus the three Forensic Sciences courses (PG131 to PG133) and Polymer Science Technology (PG135). That is why it has the most seats and, in the reported 2026 results, the lowest named pass rate.
The four rules that knock applicants out
Read these before you pay the fee
- Professional degrees are barred from many arts courses. B.E., B.Tech., MBBS, B.U.M.S. and similar degrees are not eligible for PG001 to PG011, PG013 to PG016, PG042 to PG044, PG052, PG053 and PG077 (some universities list exceptions). For M.A. language courses, professional degrees are not eligible except at AKNU and SPMVV.
- Single-subject distance degrees are out. A degree completed with a single subject in open/distance mode is not eligible for PG courses.
- B.Com. cannot take M.A. Economics — except at AKNU, which also accepts B.Com. (General, Vocational or Computer Applications) and B.B.A.
- You cannot repeat a PG you already hold, by regular or distance mode, even in a different specialisation.

A quieter rule matters just as much: eligibility for a few courses varies by university, and the booklet says the rules in force at the university at admission time are final. The course table lists, for each course, which universities offer it and what each asks. Read your row — not a summary — before counselling.
Writing two or three tests: what it costs
You may write more than one test, and each test needs its own fee. There is no discount for a second test. Counselling adds a second per-test charge: the CAP portal takes one registration but a separate processing fee for each test code you want to be considered under. The table does the arithmetic for one, two and three tests.
| Category | Test fee, 1 test | 2 tests (ours) | 3 tests (ours) | CAP processing fee per test code |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| OC | Rs 850 | Rs 1,700 | Rs 2,550 | Rs 750 |
| BC | Rs 750 | Rs 1,500 | Rs 2,250 | Rs 750 |
| SC/ST | Rs 650 | Rs 1,300 | Rs 1,950 | Rs 550 (SC/ST/PWD) |
Source: Instruction Booklet V4 (test fees, official); CHE notification for online admissions, 01.09.2026 (processing fee, official). Multi-test totals are our arithmetic. Late fees of Rs 1,000, 2,000, 4,000 and 10,000 applied in 2026 after 28 March.
Which AP PGCET test do I write? (and what it costs)
Pick the PG course you want and the degree you hold. The tool names the test code, prints the booklet's eligibility line, flags the rules that most often knock applicants out, and adds up the test fee for the number of tests you plan to write.
Eligibility can differ by university; the booklet's course table is final. Seat figures are our sums from the booklet's tentative list.
Two tests make sense only when both open courses you would actually join. The common pairings are natural ones: 306 Mathematical Sciences with 307 Statistics for a B.Sc. with Maths and Statistics; 308 Physical Sciences with 309 Electronics for a B.Sc. with Physics and Electronics; 301 Life Sciences with 303 Botany or 305 Zoology for a biology graduate. Check the examination schedule before paying: in 2026 the tests ran in three sessions a day over four days (8 to 11 May), and two of your tests could fall in the same session.
Language, medium and the one test that is different
The test is in English for every programme except the language tests, which are set in their own language (Telugu, Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, Tamil). Every test is 100 multiple-choice questions for 100 marks in 90 minutes, with no negative marking. The exception is 203 Physical Education for the M.P.Ed.: the 100-mark theory paper is added to 100 marks for sports achievement, verified from Forms I, II and III, and the merit list is on the total of 200. In 2026 that certificate verification ran on 22 and 23 May.
| Item | Rule (2026) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Questions and marks | 100 multiple-choice questions, 100 marks | Booklet V4; all 30 master paper headers |
| Time | 90 minutes, computer-based | Booklet V4; paper headers |
| Negative marking | None (+1 correct, 0 wrong) | Paper headers |
| Medium | English, except language tests in their own language | Booklet V4 (G.O.Ms.No.44) |
| M.P.Ed. (203) | 100 theory + 100 sports achievement = 200 | Booklet V4 |

Who runs the test, and who runs the admission
The test is conducted by Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati for the AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE); the 2026 convener is Prof. V. Padmavathi. SVU also conducted the 2025 test, so the claim that the conducting university "rotates every year" has no document behind it for these two cycles. Admissions are a separate body: G.O.Ms.No.22 of 04.05.2026 made the Commissionerate of Higher Education (CHE), Mangalagiri, the admitting authority, and counselling runs on the Common Admissions Portal, cap.apcfss.in. Test fees go to APSCHE; counselling fees go to CHE.
Practise it, don't just read it
Once you know your test code, practise that paper's subject — not a general aptitude set. Every AP PGCET test is 100 subject questions from a graduate syllabus.
The ProSyllabus AP PGCET library has topic quizzes for English, Commerce, Economics, Chemistry and Computer Science — the five largest tests by seats after Life Sciences and Mathematics.
How many test codes does AP PGCET have?
The official 2026 list has 31 test codes, from 101 English to 315 Geography. Thirty were held in 2026; 311 Polymer Science was not in the examination schedule.
Which AP PGCET test do I write for MSW?
Master of Social Work (PG027) is under test 111 Humanities & Social Sciences, along with journalism, sociology, library science, HRM and several other courses.
Can a B.Tech graduate write AP PGCET?
Yes for many science courses, but professional degrees are barred from PG001 to PG011, PG013 to PG016, PG042 to PG044, PG052, PG053 and PG077, apart from exceptions some universities list. Check your course row in the booklet.
Can a B.Com student take M.A. Economics through AP PGCET?
Only at Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU). Every other university asks for a B.A. or B.Sc. with Economics.
Which test gives admission to M.Sc. Data Science?
Test 314 Computer Science feeds M.Sc. Data Science, M.S. Data Science and Computational Data Science, as well as M.Sc. Computer Science and Geoinformatics.
Can I write two AP PGCET tests?
Yes. Each test needs its own fee (Rs 850 OC, Rs 750 BC, Rs 650 SC/ST in 2026), and counselling charges a processing fee per test code as well.
Is there an age limit for AP PGCET?
There is no age limit for admission. In 2026 candidates who had crossed 34 years were not eligible for fee reimbursement; the 2025 booklet set that limit at 32.
