Checked 30 September 2026. Rules from the APPGCET-2026 and 2025 Instruction Booklets (G.O.Ms.No.44). Candidate counts and pass rates are press-reported; no official result press note is online.
Nine in ten candidates who sit AP PGCET qualify. That single fact changes how you should prepare: the 35% mark is a floor almost everyone clears, and the real contest is the rank you reach above it. This guide sets out the scoring rules exactly as the booklet prints them, then reads the reported 2025 and 2026 numbers — with a clear line between what is official and what came from a newspaper.
Where other pages get this wrong
The qualifying mark is 35% of the maximum — 35 out of 100 — and SC/ST candidates have no minimum at all.
Commonly published instead: some pages print a single "pass mark" for every category, or say "40% for general".
The booklet, quoting G.O.Ms.No.44, says: the minimum qualifying marks for ranking shall be 35% of maximum marks, but "there shall be no minimum qualifying marks for the candidate belonging to the category of Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes for ranking". There is no separate BC figure: BC candidates need 35 like OC candidates. The same text is in the 2025 booklet.

Three of these rules deserve a second look. No negative marking means a blank answer is always a wasted chance: every question should be answered, and elimination pays even when you cannot finish it. Age breaks ties, so two candidates on the same marks are ordered by date of birth, not by degree marks. And there is no revaluation — the only point at which you can change your score is the answer-key objection window, at Rs 300 per objection. If the preliminary key marks a question wrongly, that window is your one chance.
Will you clear 35? Do the arithmetic
Because nothing is deducted, the expected score is simply the sum of what you know plus the value of your guesses. A blind guess on a four-option question is worth a quarter of a mark on average; a guess between two remaining options is worth half. The calculator below does the sum.
Will I clear 35? The AP PGCET qualifying calculator
Enter how many of the 100 questions you expect to know for sure and how many of the rest you will attempt by elimination. With no negative marking a wrong answer costs nothing, so the calculator assumes you answer every question and guesses the rest at one in four.
Expected marks are an average, not a promise. The 35% rule and the SC/ST exemption are from the Instruction Booklet V4.
| Situation | Expected score (ours) | Worst case (ours) |
|---|---|---|
| Know 30, cut 20 to two options, guess 50 blind | 30 + 10 + 12.5 = 52.5 | 30 |
| Know 35, leave 65 blank | 35 | 35 |
| Know 35, guess 65 blind | 35 + 16.25 = 51.25 | 35 |
| Know 20, cut 30 to two options, guess 50 blind | 20 + 15 + 12.5 = 47.5 | 20 |
Our arithmetic on the official marking scheme (+1 correct, 0 wrong, four options). Expected values assume each blind guess has a one-in-four chance and each two-option guess a one-in-two chance.
How many qualify: the reported numbers
APSCHE did not publish a result press note online for either year; the result page is a login form. The figures below come from The Hans India, which quoted SVU officials at the release. We tag them as reported. The 2025 registration figure appears only in a search summary of the 2025 story, not in its body, so treat it as low confidence.
| Year | Registered | Appeared | Qualified | Pass rate | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 19,118 | 16,406 | 15,020 | 91.55% | Reported (Hans India, 30 May 2026); 23 centres |
| 2025 | 25,688 (low confidence) | 21,995 | 19,488 | 88.6% | Reported (Hans India, 26 Jun 2025) |
| Change (ours) | −6,570 | −5,589 (−25.4%) | −4,468 | +2.95 points | Our arithmetic on the reported figures |

The number who sat fell by a quarter in one year while the seat pool grew. In 2025, women made up the majority of candidates: 13,485 women appeared and 12,025 qualified, against 8,510 men who appeared and 7,463 who qualified (reported). The qualifying rates were close — about 89% and 87.7% by our arithmetic.
| Group (2025) | Appeared | Qualified | Rate (ours) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Women | 13,485 | 12,025 | 89.2% |
| Men | 8,510 | 7,463 | 87.7% |

Pass rates by test in 2026
The 2026 report named pass rates for seven tests. They are all high, and the lowest belongs to the largest test.
Source: The Hans India, 30 May 2026 (reported). Only the seven tests the report named are shown.
| Test | Reported pass rate 2026 |
|---|---|
| Computer Science | 98.5% |
| FNS | 98.4% |
| Zoology | 97.6% |
| Economics | 96.6% |
| Botany | 96.3% |
| Physical Sciences | 93.1% |
| Chemical Sciences | 82.9% |
Source: The Hans India, 30 May 2026 (reported).
Chemical Sciences had the lowest named pass rate, 82.9%, and it is also the test with the most seats — 5,589 convener seats in the booklet list by our count. That combination is typical of a big, broad paper: more candidates from more varied colleges, and a syllabus (inorganic, organic, physical and general chemistry) that punishes a gap in any one area. Computer Science, by contrast, reported 98.5%.
What a 90% pass rate means for your plan
If almost everyone qualifies, qualifying tells a college almost nothing. Admission is then decided by three things, in order: your rank within your test, your local status and category (which set of seats you compete for), and the options you enter in counselling. The seats-to-qualifiers ratio of roughly two to one (31,663 convener seats against 15,020 qualified in 2026, our arithmetic) means a seat of some kind is likely for most qualifiers — but not the university Regular seat in the popular course, which is the cheapest and the one reimbursement is built around.
| Measure (2026) | Figure |
|---|---|
| Convener seats (CAP data, ours) | 31,663 |
| Qualified candidates (reported) | 15,020 |
| Convener seats per qualified candidate (ours) | 2.1 |
| Chemical Sciences convener seats (booklet, ours) | 5,589 |

Practical rules that follow
- Answer every question. With no negative marking a blank is the only way to lose a mark you could have had.
- Aim well past 35. The mark qualifies you; the marks above it decide the college and the seat type.
- Watch the key. With no revaluation, the Rs 300 objection is the only correction route.
- Keep your rank card safe: the booklet says no candidate is allowed certificate verification without it.
The result date: what is and is not official
The 2026 result date is not printed on any official page we could read. The Hans India reported the release on "30 May (Friday)"; 30 May 2026 was a Saturday and 29 May a Friday, so either the date or the weekday in that report is wrong. Some pages, including our own earlier notice board, give 29 May. For 2025 the official Important Dates page gives 25-06-2025 at 5 pm; The Hans India said "Wednesday (26 June)" — 25 June 2025 was the Wednesday, so the official date stands.
| Cycle | Official result date | Reported | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | Not printed | "30 May (Friday)" — Hans India; 29 May elsewhere | 30 May 2026 was a Saturday |
| 2025 | 25-06-2025, 5 pm | "Wednesday (26 June)" — Hans India | 25 June 2025 was the Wednesday |

Practise it, don't just read it
A pass rate above 90% means the mark that matters is the one above 35. Timed practice on your own test's subject is the fastest way to add it.
The ProSyllabus AP PGCET library has topic quizzes for English, Commerce, Economics, Chemistry and Computer Science — the five largest tests by seats after Life Sciences and Mathematics.
What is the qualifying mark in AP PGCET?
35% of the maximum marks, which is 35 out of 100 for every test except the 200-mark M.P.Ed. merit list. SC and ST candidates have no minimum qualifying mark for ranking.
Is there negative marking in AP PGCET?
No. All 30 master papers of 2026 carry +1 for a correct answer and 0 for a wrong one.
How are ties broken in AP PGCET?
Candidates with equal marks are bracketed and the older candidate is ranked higher, according to the Instruction Booklet.
Can I apply for revaluation of AP PGCET?
No. The booklet says there shall be no re-totalling, re-valuation or personal identification of response sheets. The only correction route is an answer-key objection, at Rs 300 each.
How many candidates qualified in AP PGCET 2026?
The Hans India reported 15,020 qualified out of 16,406 who appeared, a pass rate of 91.55%. No official press note is online.
