Checked 3 October 2026. From the AFMS BSc (Nursing) Course advertisements of 2026, 2025, 2020 and 2017. The notices print one total and a college-wise list, never a category-wise matrix. Seats are "available" numbers for one intake; the Army can change them in a later advertisement.
The Army's B.Sc (Nursing) course is not run in one place. It is taught in six Colleges of Nursing attached to military hospitals in Pune, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Lucknow and Bangalore, affiliated to five universities (Pune and Mumbai share one), and the 2026 advertisement counts 220 seats across them. This guide lists every college with its seats and university, shows the commissioning dates the Army itself printed for the last two batches, and says plainly what the notice does not tell you: there is no category-wise seat matrix.

Source: 2026 advertisement para 6 table; the same college-wise numbers appear in the 2025 advertisement and in the 2025 AFMS flow chart. 40 + 30 + 40 + 30 + 40 + 40 = 220, which is the total the advertisement implies.
AFMS 2026 advertisement. Bars to scale; the largest colleges are 40 seats each and the smallest 30.
Seats by university
Each college awards a degree through the university it is affiliated to, and that university sets the academic calendar. The 2026 advertisement says so directly: "the commencement and completion of course depend on their respective affiliated University norms". Two of the six colleges, AFMC Pune and INHS Asvini in Mumbai, share Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, which makes it the largest single affiliating body by seats.
| University | Colleges | Seats | Share of 220 (our arithmetic) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) | AFMC Pune; INHS Asvini, Mumbai | 80 | 36.4% |
| Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University (ABVMU) | CH (CC) Lucknow | 40 | 18.2% |
| Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) | CH (AF) Bangalore | 40 | 18.2% |
| West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) | CH (EC) Kolkata | 30 | 13.6% |
| Delhi University (DU) | AH (R&R) New Delhi | 30 | 13.6% |
When the commissioning happens, college by college
The 2026 advertisement prints the date of commissioning for the batches enrolled in 2020 and 2021 at each college, under the heading "the past 2 academic year". Parents often assume a four-year course means a fixed date. The table shows that the date depends on the college and its university. It also shows why the notice explains that "the date of commission determines the date of seniority in service among all candidates who have joined the course in the same year".
| College | Year of enrolment 2020 (month Dec-Jan, as the advertisement labels it): date of commissioning | Year of enrolment 2021 (month Oct-Nov): date of commissioning | Years after the enrolment month, 2020 batch (ours) | Years after the enrolment month, 2021 batch (ours) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CoN, AFMC Pune | 05 Mar 2025 | Sep 2026 (tentative) | 4.1 | about 4.8 (tentative) |
| CoN, CH (EC) Kolkata | 21 Jan 2025 | 16 Feb 2026 | 4.0 | 4.2 |
| CoN, INHS Asvini, Mumbai | 05 Mar 2025 | Sep 2026 (tentative) | 4.1 | about 4.8 (tentative) |
| CoN, AH (R&R) New Delhi | 07 Aug 2024 | 15 Jul 2025 | 3.5 | 3.6 |
| CoN, CH (CC) Lucknow | 10 Dec 2024 | 21 May 2026 | 3.9 | 4.5 |
| CoN, CH (AF) Bangalore | 06 Feb 2025 | 04 Mar 2026 | 4.0 | 4.3 |
The first two date columns are as printed in the 2026 advertisement, read from the page. The "years" columns are our arithmetic from the last day of the printed enrolment month to the commissioning date; they are minimums because the notice gives months, not enrolment dates. The Pune and Mumbai dates for the 2021 batch are printed as tentative, so the years there are approximate.
Read the table as history, not as a promise. The notice itself warns that "the academic schedule of the respective universities is subject to change in the future". What the table does establish is that the same four-year course ended between roughly three and a half and five years after the start, depending on the college and the batch.
What the notice does not give you
| Detail candidates ask for | In the 2025 and 2026 advertisements? |
|---|---|
| Seats by category (General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST) | No. Only a total per college. SC/ST candidates must hold a certificate and are exempt from the fee. |
| Seats by home state or domicile | No. Domicile is not mentioned. Screening for everyone is at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt. |
| A quota for NCC or sports | No seat quota. NCC "C" certificate holders must upload it; the interview gives "due weightage" to sports achievements and to dependants of serving or ex-servicemen officers, JCOs and other ranks, and of those killed in action. |
| Which college you will get | Only that colleges are allotted by "merit cum choice, subject to seats available at each college". How and when the choice is taken is not described. |
| Waiting list or second allotment | No. The 2025 text adds that the merit list is "valid for this academic year only". |
Where other pages get this wrong
A category-wise seat matrix for MNS is not in the Army notice.
Commonly published instead: Tables of "MNS seats by category" with General, OBC, SC and ST counts.
The advertisement lists seats per college and nothing by category. If a page shows a category split, ask which Army document it comes from: we found none.
How selective are the seats
The Army's 2026 shortlist for screening held about 2,200 reference numbers across 13 screening days from 20 August to 5 September 2026 (we counted 2,172 by OCR; one academy reports 2,208). Against 220 seats that is about ten shortlisted candidates per seat, by our arithmetic. Shortlisting is only the first filter: the ToGIGE, the Psychological Assessment and Interview and the medical board all follow, and "no seats will be kept vacant for candidates when offered admission if they fail to report on the date and time". Why the number of seats matters more than any single mark is explained in the cut-off guide.
| Year | Seats | Detail | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2017 | 210 | Bangalore 30 seats; the other five as now | official (2017 advertisement) |
| 2020 | 220 | Bangalore 40 seats | official (2020 advertisement copy) |
| 2025 | 220 | Same college-wise list | official (2025 advertisement and flow chart) |
| 2026 | 220 | Same college-wise list | official (2026 advertisement) |
A 2019 news report quotes 160 seats for that year. We found no 2019 advertisement to check it against, and it sits between 210 in 2017 and 220 in 2020, so we do not use it.
Practise it, don't just read it
All six colleges select through the same NEET score and the same ToGIGE, so the preparation is the same whichever college you choose.
The ProSyllabus MNS library has 10 live topic quizzes: Human Physiology and Body Systems, Genetics and Heredity, Plant Kingdom and Photosynthesis, Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure, Acids, Bases and Salts, Light, Optics and Reflection, English Vocabulary, Synonyms and Antonyms, two on Reading Comprehension Passages and one on Percentage and Profit Loss. They cover NEET-level science and the English side of the ToGIGE; there is no General Intelligence reasoning quiz in the library yet.
