MDU B.Ed Admission 2026: No Entrance Test, Your Degree Marks Decide
MDU Rohtak admits B.Ed and M.Ed students on the percentage in their qualifying degree, not on an entrance test. The minimum marks, the merit rule, the tie-break and a checker.

If you searched for the "MDU B.Ed entrance exam", here is the short answer: there isn't one. Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak fills the B.Ed and M.Ed seats in its affiliated colleges "strictly on academic merit prepared on the basis of marks in the qualifying examinations" — that is the prospectus's own wording (B.Ed & M.Ed Prospectus 2026-27, p. 13). You apply online, list colleges in order of preference, and the University ranks every applicant by the percentage in their degree. There is no paper to sit, no syllabus to cover and no admit card. What decides your seat is a number you already have, the category you apply in, and how well you order your college choices.
This guide sets out the minimum marks by degree, exactly how MDU turns your marks into a merit score, the tie-break, the CGPA rule, the two B.Ed groups and the documents a college will check. It corrects several claims that circulate on other pages — including our own earlier notice board — about who gets the 47.5% relaxation and who needs 55%.

MDU B.Ed & M.Ed Prospectus 2026-27, p. 12, "as per NCTE/RCI Norms". The relaxation is 5% of the general minimum, so 50% becomes 47.5% (not 45%) and 55% becomes 52.25%.
Where other pages get this wrong
The relaxed 47.5% is for SC, ST, blind, visually and differently abled candidates of Haryana only. Backward Classes get no relaxation, and B.Tech and BCA/MCA graduates need 55%, not 50%.
Commonly published instead: "47.5% for SC, BC and PH candidates" and "any bachelor's or postgraduate degree with 50%" — both printed on our own MDU B.Ed notice board until this guide.
The prospectus lists the relaxation category by category on p. 12 and never names BC. Its note 1 on the same page describes the 5% reduction for Scheduled Caste candidates only, so it is narrower still — see the conflict below. An SC candidate from outside Haryana does not get the Haryana relaxation.
Printed two ways in the same prospectus
- The eligibility paragraph gives 47.5% (or 52.25%) to SC/ST/Blind/Visually and Differently Abled candidates of Haryana only.
- Note 1 directly below it says the 5% reduction "shall be granted to the Scheduled Caste candidates" and does not mention ST or disability.
- Both are on p. 12. The wider version is the one printed for every programme; if you are an ST or differently abled candidate relying on it, keep your certificate and a copy of p. 12 ready at reporting.
How MDU builds your merit score

Rules from the prospectus, pp. 12–13, and the note printed on the 2026 merit lists. KUK and CRSU break ties on age, then 12th-class marks, then 10th-class marks; MDU's prospectus prints only the age rule.
CGPA: you supply the formula
If your university gives grades instead of marks, MDU asks you to calculate the percentage yourself with your own university's conversion formula and upload that formula with the form (prospectus, section 4, points 12 and 17). MDU prints no default multiplier. If the percentage you enter turns out to be wrong at document verification, "the provisional allotment of seat is liable to be cancelled". Kurukshetra University takes a different line: when a university gives no formula, KUK multiplies the CGPA by 9. That rule is KUK's, and MDU does not borrow it.

Group-I or Group-II?
Every B.Ed college's seats are split 50% for Group-I (Science & Arts with Maths) and 50% for Group-II (Arts & Commerce), and each group has its own online form and its own merit list. The prospectus asks you to state your group on the form and to make sure it matches your documents, but it prints no subject-by-subject definition; the names say it: science graduates, and arts graduates who studied mathematics, go in Group-I; other arts graduates and commerce graduates go in Group-II. If you are unsure, email the correction address before the form closes rather than guessing.
Separate forms are also required for B.Ed Special Education, M.Ed and M.Ed Special Education, and you may apply for more than one programme. Seats left in one group after the 1st counselling are first offered within that group; from the 2nd counselling they can be converted to the other group, in the same category.

Prospectus pp. 10 and 14–15. The fee concession names SC, BC and Differently Abled candidates of Haryana — note that BC candidates get the fee concession but not the marks relaxation.
The eligibility cut-off date is printed two ways
- Note 5 on p. 12: the cut-off date for eligibility is the last date and time of online choice filling (03.09.2026).
- Point 14 on p. 15: the cut-off date is the last date and time of online admission application filling (27.08.2026).
- Plan for the earlier one: have your result declared and every re-appear cleared by the application deadline.

Mistakes that cost seats
- Treating the form as a registration and never filling college choices — registered candidates who do not fill choices cannot be allotted a seat.
- Entering a rounded percentage. 49.5% is not 50%, and a wrong percentage can cancel an allotment later.
- Claiming the 47.5% relaxation as a BC candidate, or as an SC candidate from another state.
- Listing only three or four colleges. Allotment moves down your list; a short list is the most common way a good score ends with no seat.
- Cancelling a provisional allotment or not paying the fee in time: you are then not considered in later rounds.
- Paying the fee anywhere except the college's designated bank account.
Practise it, don't just read it
Once you hold a seat, the first-year papers start on 1 October. A short quiz on each paper is an easy way to see what your B.Ed course actually covers.
The ProSyllabus MDU B.Ed library has quizzes on the first-year course papers — Childhood and Growing Up, Learning and Teaching, Knowledge and Curriculum, Assessment for Learning and Contemporary India and Education. They are for students who already hold a seat, not for admission: there is no admission test to practise for.
Is there an entrance exam for MDU B.Ed 2026?
No. MDU admits B.Ed and M.Ed students strictly on the merit of marks in the qualifying degree. There is no test, syllabus or admit card.
What is the minimum percentage for MDU B.Ed?
Fifty per cent in a Bachelor's or Master's in Sciences, Social Sciences or Humanities, or in BBA/MBA; 55% for B.E./B.Tech (Science and Maths) and for BCA/MCA. The relaxed figures are 47.5% and 52.25%.
Who gets the 47.5% relaxation?
SC, ST, blind, visually and differently abled candidates of Haryana only. Backward Classes candidates and reserved candidates from other states do not.
Does MDU count my Master's marks?
Yes. If you have both degrees, the higher of the two percentages is your merit score for B.Ed.
How are ties broken in the MDU B.Ed merit list?

Yes. Fifteen per cent of every college's seats are All India Open Category seats, open to candidates from any state including Haryana.
