APS Processing Time 2026: What APS India Says, and How to Plan Around ItOpen the full article →

Checked 12 October 2026. APS India states no fixed processing time and its workload changes through the year. The uni-assist figures are its own, updated 28 September 2026. The planning buffers in the table are ours, not APS figures.

Ask ten applicants how long their APS certificate took and you will hear ten answers, from three weeks to three months. That is not because anyone is lying. It is because APS India itself does not publish a processing time, and the few numbers in circulation come from old notices or from individual experience. This guide sets out what APS India actually says in October 2026, what makes one file take longer than another, and how to plan so that a slow file does not cost you an intake.

What APS India says about processing time

The APS India FAQ answers the question directly, and the answer is that there is no single figure. In its words, processing times depend on the number of applications received and on the response time of schools, boards, universities and other institutions contacted during the verification process, and APS India cannot provide a fixed processing time for every individual case.

The APS registration page, which every applicant confirms before creating an account, adds the one figure APS does publish: "The APS verification process takes at least two weeks. Processing may take longer depending on application volume and the response time of schools, boards, universities or other institutions contacted during verification." So two weeks is a floor, not an estimate, and there is no ceiling.

Two parts of that sentence matter. The first is volume: APS India is one office verifying documents for every Indian applicant to German higher education, so the same file can move faster in a quiet month than in the spring rush before winter-intake deadlines. The second is the institutions. APS India does not simply read your marksheets; it checks them with the school, board or university that issued them. If your college answers quickly from an official email address, your file moves. If it does not answer, your file waits, however complete it is.

Where other pages get this wrong

There is no official "3–4 weeks" for APS.

Commonly published instead: Many pages state that APS takes "3–4 weeks" or "one month" as if it were a published service level.

The current APS FAQ says APS India cannot give a fixed processing time for every case. The "one month" figure comes from an APS News notice of 4 November 2022, and even then it counted from the day APS physically opened your packet, not from the day the courier delivered it.

Where the "one month" figure comes from

In a notice dated 4 November 2022, during a period of very high demand, APS India wrote that verification of an application should usually be finished within a month, but that some administrative work happens before processing starts, and that the one-month period begins once APS has physically opened the application. That notice is still in the archive of the APS News page, which is why the figure keeps being repeated.

Read carefully, that notice gives you two separate waits. The first is the time between your courier delivering the packet and APS opening it, for which no figure was ever given. The second is the verification itself, which in late 2022 APS expected to take about a month. Neither is a promise for 2026. Treat it as a historical reference only; APS's current position is a minimum of two weeks with no fixed upper limit.

What actually slows a file down

1. Your college or board has not answered

The APS FAQ describes a status called "non-support". It means that the relevant school, board or university has not provided the information APS India needs to complete verification, and APS can only issue a certificate once the institution has confirmed the authenticity of your records through an official channel. The leaflet adds a practical step: tell your school, university or college that you have submitted your documents to APS, because they may receive a query, and that they must reply from an official email address — Gmail and similar addresses are not accepted.

This is the single most useful thing you can do to shorten your wait, and it costs nothing. Before you courier, write to your college examination section and your school, give them your name, roll number and years of study, and ask them to answer APS India's verification email promptly from the official address.

2. An incomplete or incorrect file

The leaflet is blunt: only complete applications will be processed, and incomplete or incorrect information on the form invalidates the application. A missing semester marksheet, an unsigned form, an old photo or a regional-language document without a notarised English translation can all stop a file. APS also reserves the right to ask for additional documents, and a request may mean another courier shipment — follow APS's instructions for each one.

3. Paying by bank transfer

APS accepts the ₹18,000 fee online through CCAvenue during registration or by bank transfer to its account. The APS registration page says it plainly: "Manually wiring the verification fee will lengthen the verification process!" A transfer has to be matched by hand. If you can pay online, do.

4. Peak season

APS publishes no monthly figures; its FAQ says only that the number of applications affects processing, and a 2022 notice said times had "increased drastically" with volume. Our planner adds a margin for couriering between April and July, before the 15 July winter deadline many universities use — a planning assumption from the deadline calendar, not an observed APS seasonal pattern.

5. The dMAT, if it applies to you

From the summer semester 2027 Master intake, applicants whose previous degree is in an affected field — Engineering; Commerce, Accounting, Finance or Economics; Business or Management — must also submit a dMAT certificate. Exempt are applicants who completed APS registration or shipped complete documents before 29 June 2026, and participants in officially confirmed exchange, double-degree or partnership programmes (APS dMAT page). The APS dMAT page allows you to courier your APS documents before the dMAT certificate exists, and APS may start verifying them, but it can only issue the APS certificate after the dMAT certificate has been submitted and checked against g.a.s.t.'s information. If you are covered, your certificate cannot arrive before your dMAT result does.

APS, then uni-assist: the two waits add up

Many applicants with Indian academic documents need the APS certificate for uni-assist as well as for the visa; check your own course and procedure. uni-assist asks Indian applicants to upload the digitally sealed APS certificate as an unchanged original file. It then evaluates your application, and its own figure for applicants with certificates from Asia was four to five weeks on 28 September 2026, counted from the day it received your online application form. uni-assist also recommends applying at least eight weeks before your university's deadline so that it can tell you in time if something is missing.

So the useful question is not "how long does APS take?" but "when must my APS file leave India for my university deadline to be safe?". That is a backwards calculation, and the next section does it.

Plan backwards from your deadline

This is the arithmetic our free planner uses. The uni-assist step is official; the verification and courier buffers are our planning assumptions, chosen to sit above the old one-month notice. Treat the result as a target, not a guarantee: earlier is always better.

StepAllowanceBasis
University deadlineOften 15 July (winter) or 15 January (summer); many master's courses set earlier datesuni-assist (official)
Apply to uni-assistAt least 8 weeks before the deadlineuni-assist recommendation (official)
APS verification5 weeksOurs: the 2022 "one month" plus a week
Paid by bank transfer+1 weekOurs: APS matches transfers by hand
Courier date falls April–July+2 weeksOurs: peak season for winter-intake files
Courier to New Delhi5 daysOurs

Worked through, a 15 July 2027 winter deadline paid online gives a target courier date of 27 March 2027; a 15 January 2027 summer deadline paid by transfer gives 4 October 2026, which has already passed. If your own date has passed, do not panic and do not courier an incomplete file. Read our guide to the summer 2027 intake for what to do, and write to your university before its deadline.

How the plan adds up (days before the university deadline)
uni-assist lead time (official advice)56 days
APS verification (our buffer)35 days
Peak season, April–July (our buffer)+14 days
Bank transfer (our buffer)+7 days
Courier to New Delhi (our buffer)5 days

Only the uni-assist step is official. A file paid online and couriered outside April–July needs 96 days before the deadline in this plan; one paid by transfer in peak season needs 117.

How you will know it is done

According to the APS FAQ, you can check your status by logging in to the online student portal, and once verification is complete you receive an email. The certificate itself is a digital PDF sent to the email address you registered with. APS News asks you not to rename, edit or merge that PDF, because its digital signature has to be verifiable; uni-assist asks for it as the unchanged original file.

Do not chase APS for status updates. The FAQ says APS India cannot provide individual status updates for every pending application and will contact you directly if it needs more information. A 2022 notice put it more directly: basic status queries will not be answered. If you have a specific problem — your college says it never received a query, or your name is spelt differently on two documents — use the contact form on aps-india.de and include your registration number.

Help other applicants: share your timeline

Because APS publishes no processing figures, we are collecting them. On the free APS planner page you can add your own dates anonymously: when you couriered, how you paid, your degree field and intake, and when your certificate arrived. We store no name, email or case number, and we will publish a median only once at least ten complete timelines are in, so a single fast or slow case cannot distort it.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the APS certificate take in 2026?

APS India's registration page says verification takes at least two weeks and may take longer; it publishes no fixed processing time. Its registration page says verification takes at least two weeks and may take longer; its FAQ says the time depends on the number of applications and on how quickly schools, boards and universities answer its verification queries. Plan with a margin rather than a single number.

Is it true that APS takes one month?

That figure comes from an APS News notice of 4 November 2022, which said verification should usually be finished within a month of APS physically opening your application. It was never a promise and it does not count the time before your packet is opened.

What does "non-support" mean on the APS portal?

It means your school, board or university has not given APS India the information it needs. APS can only issue the certificate once the institution confirms your records through an official channel. Ask the institution to reply to APS from its official email address.

Can I email APS to ask about my status?

APS India says it cannot give individual status updates and will contact you if anything is needed. Use the contact form on aps-india.de only for a specific problem, with your registration number.

Does paying online make APS faster?

The APS registration page says manually wiring the fee will lengthen the verification process, because the payment has to be matched by hand. Paying online through CCAvenue at registration avoids that step.

Does the dMAT add to the APS time?

If the dMAT applies to you, APS can only issue the APS certificate after your dMAT certificate has been submitted and checked. You may courier your APS documents first, so the rest of the verification can start earlier.

When should I courier my APS documents?

Work backwards from your university deadline: uni-assist recommends applying at least eight weeks before it, then allow for APS verification and the courier. The free ProSyllabus APS planner does the arithmetic for your deadline.
