Workday HCM Consultant Salary in India 2026: Experience, City, Employer

Checked 29 September 2026. Salary-platform data, read on 29 September 2026: AmbitionBox (employee-submitted; pages updated 21 and 24 September 2026) and Indeed (job postings; updated 2022–2023). These numbers change weekly and are not official pay scales.

There is no official salary for a Workday HCM consultant; there are only salary-platform figures. Of the sources used here, AmbitionBox has by far the larger sample: 352 salaries for the title "Workday HCM Consultant" and about 3,300 for the broader "Workday Consultant", which also covers finance, integration and technical roles. On those reports, a Workday HCM consultant in India typically earns ₹9.4–10.3 lakh a year with 2 to 9 years of experience, averaging ₹9.8 lakh. This guide sets out the ranges by experience, city, industry and employer, keeps each sample size next to its number, and is clear about the one question the data cannot answer: how much the Workday Pro certificate itself adds. None of the sources reviewed here measures the salary effect of certification.

Indeed — Workday HCM consultant1326 Oct 2023Average ₹8,97,430; range ₹4,15,969 – ₹19,36,159Reported (job postings), small and old

The methods differ. AmbitionBox says its estimates are based on salaries received from employees (self-reported, not verified by employers). Indeed says its figures are based on salaries taken from job postings on Indeed in the past 36 months, so they describe advertised pay, not what people report earning. Ranges on AmbitionBox are ranges of average salary for the group, not the lowest and highest individual salaries.

9–12 years (9)₹10.6–15.3 L

Bar length is the top of each AmbitionBox range (reported). The 9–12 year band rests on 9 salaries: read it as a hint, not a figure.

Two things stand out. First, the HCM title and the broad Workday title cross over: HCM consultants report more than the broad group at 1–3 years but less at 3–6 and 6–9. We would not read much into that — the broad title mixes functional, technical and finance roles and has a much larger sample. Second, pay in the HCM data barely moves between the first two bands (both top out at ₹8.7 lakh) and jumps in the 6–9 year band. The data shows only that the reported range rises there; it says nothing about which roles, responsibilities or credentials go with the rise.

AmbitionBox, reported. Indeed's city figures come from its own city pages, each with 2 to 5 job-posting salaries and dated 2022 or 2023; they are in the Indeed table below with their sample sizes and dates.

Hyderabad and Bengaluru hold most of the reports — 125 and 118 of the 352 HCM salaries — and pay almost the same. The higher Gurugram and Pune ranges in the broad data come from much smaller samples.

The biggest single difference in the data is who you work for, not where. In the broad Workday data, management consulting and financial services report roughly ₹14–16.7 lakh against about ₹9–10 lakh in IT services.

The older Indeed figures

Bengaluru (city page: 5 salaries, updated 26 Apr 2023)₹12,81,822
Chennai (city page: 3 salaries, updated 7 Jul 2022)₹11,14,305
Hyderabad (city page: 5 salaries, updated 26 Oct 2023)₹4,04,211

Thirteen job-posting salaries nationally, the newest update nearly three years old; the city rows rest on 2 to 5 postings each and carry their own dates (Chennai's is from 2022). Indeed's city pages were read on 29 September 2026. The Hyderabad figure sits far below AmbitionBox's 125 Hyderabad reports; we print both and would trust the larger, newer sample.

How to read these ranges

AmbitionBox shows a range of average salaries for each group, not the lowest and highest pay anyone reported, and it rounds to lakhs. A range such as ₹7.9–8.7 lakh for 3–6 years therefore says where the middle of that group sits; individual offers fall well outside it in both directions, which is why the same page can show a top 1% above ₹24 lakh. Sample size matters as much as the figure: larger samples normally deserve more confidence than very small ones, and a band built on 9 reports can be changed a great deal by a few new submissions. The growth figures are also AmbitionBox's own: 3% over two years for the HCM title and 6% for the broad Workday title. Those are changes in the reported average, not raises that any individual received.

Sample under 10A hint onlyHCM: 9–12 years (9), IBM (9), Wipro (8), most single employers

The thresholds of 1,000, 50 and 10 are our own rough editorial heuristic, not a statistical cut-off from AmbitionBox.

Does the Workday Pro certificate raise pay?

None of the sources reviewed here measures the salary effect of Workday Pro certification. AmbitionBox and Indeed group salaries by title, experience, city and employer, not by certification, and Workday makes no salary claim for Workday Pro. What we can say from the rules rather than the data: Workday Pro is available to customers and to partners and consultants; some consulting roles ask for current Workday certification, but these sources do not show how common that requirement is or how often employers pay for it. For partners, implementer access needs a data loading or data conversion certification too (reported). For a customer HR or HRIS employee, it certifies the system you already run, and if you move to another Workday customer, Workday lets the new Training Coordinator transfer the record; partner-side transfer rules are not on a public page. Either way, pay follows the role you move into. Treat any course advert that promises a salary jump from the certificate alone as marketing.

Using this data in a negotiation

  • Quote the title that matches the job: "Workday HCM Consultant" for functional HCM roles, not the broad "Workday Consultant".
  • Name your experience band and city, and the sample size behind the range.
  • Compare like with like: IT services against IT services, consulting against consulting.
  • Ignore bands built on fewer than about 10 salaries unless nothing else exists.
  • Check the page yourself on the day: AmbitionBox updates these figures continuously.
