Checked 28 September 2026. From Veeva's 2026 Certification Program and Policy Guide (pp.10–13), its certification FAQ and the Certification Maintenance Fee page. Some 2027-cycle details (beyond the 1 February 2027 first bill for new holders) are not yet published.
A Veeva credential is not a lifetime certificate. Each certification expires one year from the date it was issued (the one exception, the legacy Certified Veeva CRM Administrator, is valid to 31 December 2029 with no maintenance exams), and keeping it needs two things: being active in the Certification Maintenance Program (the $300 annual fee) and passing a short, open-book maintenance exam before the expiry date. The rules were rewritten for 2026 — a fixed May-to-April cycle, an earlier fee deadline, per-credential exam windows — and several pages still describe the old ones. This guide sets out the 2026 rules from Veeva's own policy guide, including the 45-day grace period many holders do not know about, and calculates your dates.

Your renewal dates, worked out
Enter the date your credential was issued (or last renewed to). The calculator applies the 2026 policy: expiry one year after issue, maintenance exam available at least 45 days before expiry, a 45-day grace period after it, and renewal adding one year to the original expiry.
Dates from Veeva's 2026 Certification Program and Policy Guide and certification FAQ; our date arithmetic. Not for the legacy Certified Veeva CRM Administrator credential, which is valid to 31 December 2029 with no more maintenance exams. Assumes your program access is active (fee paid or reactivated).
The two requirements
| Requirement | What it means |
|---|---|
| 1. Be active in the Certification Maintenance Program | Pay the $300 fee for the cycle (by 30 April 2026 for the 2026 cycle). One fee covers renewal access for all your active credentials; paid without an active credential, it buys Learning Library access only. |
| 2. Pass the maintenance exam | Open book, up to 20 questions; opens 45 days before your credential expires and must be passed on or before expiry. |
| If you fail the maintenance exam | Wait 24 hours; the first retake is free; after two fails contact Veeva. |
| Effect of passing | Credential extended one year from the original expiry date. |
From the Program and Policy Guide 2026, "Renewal requirements" (p.11). Passing extends your credential by one full year from the original expiry date, whenever in the window you pass.
The second point matters for planning. Because renewal runs from the original expiry date, taking the maintenance exam on the first day it opens costs you nothing — your new expiry is the same as if you had passed on the last day. There is no reason to leave it late, and good reason not to: a failed first attempt needs a 24-hour wait, and after two fails you have to ask Veeva for more attempts.
The 2026 cycle, date by date

| 1 May 2026 | 2026 cycle starts: Learning Library opens; maintenance exams unlock 45 days before each credential's expiry |
| 1 June 2026 | Unpaid holders deactivated; reactivation on payment possible through 30 April 2027 |
| 1 February 2027 | First maintenance bill for people whose first credential was earned on or after 1 Jan 2026 |

What changed from the old rules
| Rule | Before (Feb 2026 page) | Now (2026 policy) |
|---|---|---|
| Maintenance fee due date | 30 June 2026 | 30 April 2026, aligned to a 1 May cycle |

| Maintenance exam score | Numerical score still given | No numerical scores for any exam |
| Logged hours | No longer required (already dropped) | Not required |
Before: Veeva's certification page as archived on 2 February 2026. Now: the live certification page and the 2026 Program and Policy Guide. Veeva explains the date move as aligning with "the new standardized annual Certification Maintenance Program cycle".
Where other pages get this wrong
The maintenance exam opens 45 days before expiry — not three months.
Commonly published instead: Advice to "sit three months early", and statements that a lapsed credential can only be recovered by the full exam.
Veeva's policy guide says maintenance exams are made available 45 days before your credential expires (the FAQ says "a minimum of 45 days"). After expiry there is a 45-day grace period in which passing the maintenance exam restores Active status; only after that is the credential revoked and the full exam needed.
Missed it? What happens, stage by stage
| Where you are | Status | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Before expiry, fee paid | Active | Pass the maintenance exam once it opens |
| Before expiry, fee not paid after 1 June | Active credential, deactivated in the program | Pay to reactivate (possible through 30 April 2027), then take the exam |
| Expired, within 45 days | "Expired" in Accredible | With program access active (pay to reactivate if needed), pass the maintenance exam; status returns to Active automatically |
| More than 45 days after expiry | Revoked | Pay for and pass the full certification exam again |
From the Program and Policy Guide 2026, "Failure to renew a certification" (p.12) and the billing timeline (p.11). The reinstatement exam for a Vault Platform Administrator is the $300 exam, with the normal retake rules.
The maintenance exam itself
Veeva describes maintenance exams as open book and up to 20 questions; the exact number and time "may differ based on exam content" and are given in each maintenance exam's guide. Veeva delivers them through Caveon's Scorpion platform. Retakes are gentler: a 24-hour wait after a first fail, the first retake is free, and after two fails you contact Veeva. The content follows Vault's release cadence — three general releases a year — which is why Veeva includes the Learning Library in the fee and recommends (but does not require) its new courses before the maintenance exam.
| Release | General release |
|---|---|
| 26R2 | 7 August 2026 |
| 26R3 | 4 December 2026 (scheduled) |
From Vault release notes; dates are US Pacific Time and subject to change. General releases arrive "approximately every four months", with limited releases every three to five weeks in between.
Leave, job loss and the Veeva CRM exception
| Case | Rule |
|---|---|
| Maternity, paternity or extended leave, less than 12 months since your last exam | Complete missed maintenance exam(s) within 90 days of the leave end date; pay $300 if the year's fee is unpaid |
| Leave, more than 12 months since your last exam | Retake the credential exam; contact certifications@veeva.com |
| Unemployed after working for Veeva, a customer or a partner | One-year interim waiver on signing a Training Confidentiality Agreement; proof of eligibility needed when it ends |
| Certified Veeva CRM Administrator (legacy Veeva CRM) | Valid to 31 December 2029; no more maintenance exams; 2026 was the last fee year for holders of only this credential |
From the Program and Policy Guide 2026 (pp.12–13, 15) and the certification FAQ. Leave requests come from your employer's HR official, by email to certifications@veeva.com, with leave dates.
A renewal routine that never lapses
- Find your expiry date on your Accredible credential and put three reminders in your calendar: 45 days before, 30 days before, and the expiry day.
- Check in the Veeva Training Portal (Profile > View Profile > User details) that your fee status is paid; if you paid but it still says payment required, redeem your registration code.
- Take the maintenance exam in the first week it opens — renewal counts from the original expiry anyway.
- Skim the Learning Library courses and release notes for the releases since your last exam.
- If you hold several credentials, list every expiry date: one fee covers them all, but each needs its own maintenance exam.
Our routine, built on Veeva's published rules.
Practise it, don't just read it
A quick domain-by-domain refresh before a maintenance exam shows you what has faded since you certified.
The ProSyllabus Veeva Vault library has 13 quizzes of 10 questions, all for the Vault Platform Administrator exam: objects and fields, object relationships and data integrity, document types, UI, layouts and search, users, groups and security profiles, the security model and e-signatures, applying the security model, document lifecycles, object lifecycles and workflows, lifecycle states and actions, reports and dashboards, configuration migration, and data loading and troubleshooting. They are written from public Vault documentation and are not Veeva exam items. There are no Vault CRM, EDC, DQS or Quality quizzes yet.
How long is a Veeva certification valid?
One year from the date of issue. It must be renewed each year through the maintenance program.
When does the Veeva maintenance exam open?
45 days before your credential expires; Veeva's FAQ says a minimum of 45 days.
Is there a grace period after a Veeva certification expires?
Yes. You have 45 days from the expiry date to pass the maintenance exam and regain Active status. After that the credential is revoked.
What if my credential is revoked?
You must pay for and pass the full certification exam again.
Does renewing early shorten my credential?
No. Passing extends the credential by one year from the original expiry date, whenever in the window you pass.
How much is the Veeva maintenance fee?
$300 a year, covering all credentials you hold, for a cycle running 1 May to 30 April.
When was the 2026 maintenance fee due?
30 April 2026. It had been 30 June; Veeva moved it to align with the 1 May cycle. Unpaid holders were deactivated after 1 June but can reactivate by paying through 30 April 2027.
I got my first Veeva certification in 2026. Do I pay the fee this year?
No. First credentials earned on or after 1 January 2026 are exempt from the 2026 cycle fee; the first bill comes on 1 February 2027.
How many questions are in a maintenance exam?
Up to 20, open book. The exact number and time depend on the exam and are in its guide.
What if I fail the maintenance exam?
Wait 24 hours and retake it; the first retake is free. After two fails, contact Veeva for further attempts.
