Checked 26 September 2026. From SBI advertisements, final-result and wait-list PDFs 2024-25 and 2025-26 (counts only) and SBI careers pages. SBI publishes no cut-off and no in-hand salary.
Once the Main is over, SBI Clerk candidates face three questions: how many will be selected, what happens if I just miss out, and what does the job pay? SBI answers the first two with its own documents — result lists and a wait-list rule — and the third with a pay scale and one rounded figure. What it does not publish is a cut-off. This guide sets out what SBI’s documents show, counted from its own result PDFs.
SBI result and wait-list PDFs; advertisement 2026-27.
Where other pages get this wrong
SBI publishes no cut-off document for Junior Associates — not for prelims, Main, any state or any category.
Commonly published instead: “SBI Clerk prelims cut-off released state-wise on the official SBI website” and “the bank has declared the Mains cut-off”.
Every Junior Associate block on SBI’s careers pages holds advertisements, booklets, result lists and marks utilities — never a cut-off PDF. Figures online reportedly come from individual score cards and cannot be checked against a public SBI document.

Our counts of roll numbers in SBI’s result and wait-list PDFs; no names or roll numbers recorded. Each list is all-India, with no state or category column. 2025-26 selected more than its 5,180 regular seats, consistent with backlog seats also being filled, though SBI does not say which.
Our counts of SBI’s 2024-25 result lists.
The wait lists are not a formality. In 2024-25, 3,384 more candidates were offered posts from three wait lists after the final result — about a quarter as many again. That is the practical value of being close to the line: a candidate who narrowly misses the final list still has a real chance for up to a year.
The wait-list rule
SBI’s wording has been the same for three cycles: “A wait list of up to 50% of vacancies (State-category wise) will be maintained. Candidates will be released from this waitlist on quarterly basis against non-joining and resignation out of the current batch only”, subject to the minimum qualifying marks, and the list is “valid for a period of one year from the date of declaration of final result”. So a wait-listed candidate can be called any time in the year after the final result — the 2024-25 third list came about eight months after it.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Size | Up to 50% of vacancies, state- and category-wise |
| Release | Quarterly, against non-joining and resignations in the current batch |
| Validity | One year from the final result |
| Condition | Minimum qualifying marks; language test; eligibility verification |

Pay and probation
| Item | SBI’s figure |
|---|---|
| Pay scale | ₹24,050-1,340/3-28,070-1,650/3-33,020-2,000/4-41,020-2,340/7-57,400-4,400/1-61,800-2,680/1-64,480 |
| Starting basic | ₹26,730 (₹24,050 + two advance increments for graduates) |
| Starting emoluments at Mumbai | “Around ₹46,000 per month” inclusive of DA and other allowances |
| Other benefits | NPS, PF, medical, leave fare concession |
| Probation | Minimum 6 months; e-lessons must be completed to be confirmed |
| Bond | No service bond clause in the advertisements |
SBI advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17 (the same scale and “around ₹46,000” line appear in 2024-25 and 2025-26). SBI publishes no in-hand figure; the ₹46,000 is a gross figure for Mumbai.
The two advance increments are for graduates, not for a Mumbai posting, as one popular page suggests. In-hand pay depends on the city, deductions and the DA rate at the time, which is why aggregator figures disagree — ₹40,000–42,000 and ₹42,584 on the same page, ₹44,232 on another. None is an SBI figure. The job itself is a sales-and-service role: SBI’s advertisement says it requires “flair for marketing”, cross-selling, outdoor travel and flexible hours in shifts.
The pay scale, increment by increment
SBI prints the whole clerical scale in one line: ₹24,050 rising by ₹1,340 three times, then ₹1,650 three times, ₹2,000 four times, ₹2,340 seven times, then one step of ₹4,400 and one of ₹2,680 to a top basic of ₹64,480. A graduate joins two steps up, at ₹26,730, which leaves 17 increments to the top. The table spells out every step; the stepper below reads from it. SBI’s advertisement does not say how often an increment is earned, so any “years of service” attached to a step is an assumption, not an SBI figure.
| Increments since joining | Basic pay (₹ a month) | Step from previous |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 26,730 | joining basic |
| 1 | 28,070 | +1,340 |
| 2 | 29,720 | +1,650 |
| 3 | 31,370 | +1,650 |
| 4 | 33,020 | +1,650 |
| 5 | 35,020 | +2,000 |
| 6 | 37,020 | +2,000 |
| 7 | 39,020 | +2,000 |
| 8 | 41,020 | +2,000 |
| 9 | 43,360 | +2,340 |
| 10 | 45,700 | +2,340 |
| 11 | 48,040 | +2,340 |
| 12 | 50,380 | +2,340 |
| 13 | 52,720 | +2,340 |
| 14 | 55,060 | +2,340 |
| 15 | 57,400 | +2,340 |
| 16 | 61,800 | +4,400 |
| 17 | 64,480 | +2,680 |
Our arithmetic from SBI’s printed scale, “Rs.24050-1340/3-28070-1650/3-33020-2000/4-41020-2340/7-57400-4400/1-61800-2680/1-64480” (advertisement /17, section 6). Basic pay only.
SBI Clerk basic pay, step by step
Choose how many increments have been earned since joining. SBI’s scale has 17 increments above the joining basic of ₹26,730.
Basic pay only, from SBI’s printed scale (advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17). SBI does not state the increment interval in the advertisement; the “years” shown assume one increment a year, which is our assumption. DA, HRA and other allowances vary with the rate in force and the place of posting and are not modelled.
Two limits apply to any salary figure built on this. First, SBI’s “around ₹46,000” is gross, for Mumbai, “at the current rate” of DA, and “allowances may vary depending upon the place of posting”. Second, the same ₹46,000 line has appeared unchanged in the 2024-25, 2025-26 and 2026-27 advertisements, so the figure itself has not moved since December 2024. Treat it as SBI’s rounded indication, not a pay slip.
How long the process runs
| Stage | 2024-25 | 2025-26 |
|---|---|---|
| Advertisement → final result | 17.12.2024 → 11.06.2025 (176 days) | 06.08.2025 → 27.02.2026 (205 days) |
| Final result → wait list I | 62 days (12.08.2025) | 111 days (18.06.2026) |
| Wait list I → II | 73 days (24.10.2025) | — |
| Wait list II → III | 104 days (05.02.2026) | — |
| Wait list valid until (one year from final) | about 11.06.2026 | about 27.02.2027 |
Dates from SBI’s advertisements and result PDFs; day counts and validity end-dates are our arithmetic from SBI’s one-year rule.
Read with the counts above, the 2024-25 lists offered 16,839 posts against 13,735 regular vacancies — about 1.23 offers per seat (our arithmetic). In 2025-26 the final list alone had 5,783 names: 603 more than the 5,180 regular seats and fewer than the 6,589 obtained by adding every backlog column printed in the 2025-26 advertisement (5,180 + 403 + 196 + 810, p.2 — our sum). SBI does not break the list down, so which columns were filled cannot be said from its documents. The 2025-26 wait list remains valid, on SBI’s one-year rule, until about 27 February 2027.
Two more lines from the advertisement matter after the Main. SBI analyses each candidate’s responses against other candidates’ “to detect patterns of similarity” and may cancel candidature if scores are not genuine. And “record for this project will not be maintained after one year of declaration of result of online test” — SBI’s wording is about the online-test result, and the advertisement does not say how long the marks utilities stay open, so it is worth saving your own marks while they are.
What SBI means by “cut-off”
The FAQ on SBI’s Junior Associate careers page (the same page that is otherwise out of date) defines a cut-off as “the marks secured by last candidate who is called for that particular activity”. It publishes the activity lists — who is called to the Main, who is selected, who is wait-listed — but not the marks of the last candidate. Candidates see their own marks through SBI’s marks utilities (roll number, date of birth and a CAPTCHA). SBI also says there is no re-checking of answers and it does not provide answer keys.
