Checked 26 September 2026. From SBI advertisements CRPD/CR/2026-27/17 and /16, compared with 2023-24 to 2025-26. Eligibility is verified again before joining.
SBI’s Junior Associate eligibility rules are simpler than most bank exams in one respect — there is no limit on attempts — and stricter in others: age is counted on 1 April, graduation must be complete by 31 December, and a candidate applies for only one State/UT. This guide sets out the 2026-27 rules from SBI’s advertisements, including two relaxations few pages mention (for widowed or divorced women and for trained SBI apprentices), with a checker.
SBI advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17.
Where other pages get this wrong
SBI’s Junior Associate advertisements set no limit on the number of attempts.
Commonly published instead: Pages that carry over SBI PO’s attempt limits to SBI Clerk.
No “chances” clause appears in any Junior Associate advertisement from 2023-24 to 2026-27; the rule is only that a candidate may appear once “under this recruitment project”.
Am I eligible for SBI Clerk 2026-27?
SBI advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17: age 20–28 on 01.04.2026 (born 02.04.1998 to 01.04.2006). Relaxation: OBC 3, SC/ST 5, PwBD 10 (OBC 13, SC/ST 15) years; trained SBI apprentices 1 (OBC 4, SC/ST 6, PwBD 11/14/16) years. “Cumulative age relaxation will not be available.” Widowed, divorced or judicially separated women (not remarried): 7 years, up to 35 (General/EWS), 38 (OBC) or 40 (SC/ST) — for OBC and SC/ST women the tool shows both readings, because SBI also says relaxation is not cumulative. Ex-servicemen (service + 3 years, maximum 50; fee nil) are not modelled. Candidates working in SBI’s clerical cadre, or who resigned from SBI while in the clerical cadre, are not eligible.

Worked age limits for 2026-27
| Candidate | Born on or after | Born on or before |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | 02.04.1998 | 01.04.2006 |
| OBC (non-creamy layer) | 02.04.1995 | 01.04.2006 |
| SC / ST | 02.04.1993 | 01.04.2006 |
| PwBD — General/EWS / OBC / SC-ST | 02.04.1988 / 02.04.1985 / 02.04.1983 | 01.04.2006 |
| Trained SBI apprentice — General/EWS / OBC / SC-ST | 02.04.1997 / 02.04.1994 / 02.04.1992 | 01.04.2006 |
| Trained SBI apprentice with PwBD — General/EWS / OBC / SC-ST | 02.04.1987 / 02.04.1984 / 02.04.1982 | 01.04.2006 |
| Widowed, divorced or judicially separated woman (not remarried), General/EWS | 02.04.1991 (maximum age 35) | 01.04.2006 |
| Same, OBC / SC-ST | Unresolved — see below | 01.04.2006 |
Our arithmetic: each year of relaxation moves SBI’s printed earliest birth date (02.04.1998) back by one year. The lower age limit is never relaxed.
One line of the advertisement does not add up. For widowed, divorced and judicially separated women SBI gives 7 years “subject to maximum age limit of 35 years for General/EWS, 38 years for OBC & 40 years for SC/ST”. A maximum of 38 or 40 is only reachable by adding the woman’s OBC (3) or SC/ST (5) relaxation to the 7 — yet the same page says “cumulative age relaxation will not be available either under the above items or in combination with any other items”. Read one way, an OBC woman in this group may be born as early as 02.04.1988; read the other way, 02.04.1991. We print both, as the checker above does; SBI has not clarified.
Ex-servicemen: 14.5% and a ceiling of 50
Ex-servicemen have the largest reservation after the vertical categories: 10% for ex-servicemen plus 4.5% for disabled ex-servicemen and dependants of servicemen killed in action — 14.5% in all. It is horizontal, so it sits inside the SC, ST, OBC, EWS and General counts. First priority goes to disabled ex-servicemen, second to dependants of defence personnel killed in action or severely disabled (over 50% disability attributable to service). The 2026-27 regular advertisement prints 760 ex-servicemen and 333 disabled ex-servicemen/dependant seats, plus backlog columns of 964 and 480.
| Rule | Detail |
|---|---|
| Age | Actual service + 3 years (8 years for disabled ex-servicemen who are SC/ST), up to a maximum age of 50 |
| Qualification | Graduation, or matriculation plus the Army Special Certificate of Education (or Navy/Air Force equivalent) after at least 15 years’ service, dated on or before 31.12.2026 |
| Still serving | Personnel due for release within one year may apply with a service certificate and an undertaking (the advertisement’s Proformas B and C) |
| Used the quota before | Not eligible for an ex-servicemen seat if already employed on the civil side (including PSUs and nationalised banks) through ex-servicemen reservation |
| Fee | Nil |
SBI advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17, pp.2–3 and Proformas A–D.
Graduation
A graduate degree in any discipline, or an equivalent recognised by the Central Government, is required. Final-year or final-semester students may apply provisionally but must show that they passed on or before 31 December 2026 (the date on the mark sheet or provisional certificate, or a certified date of web publication). Integrated dual-degree holders must have passed by the same date. Ex-servicemen who are matriculates with the Army Special Certificate of Education (or Navy/Air Force equivalent) after 15 years’ service are also eligible.

SBI advertisements CRPD/CR/2026-27/17 and CRPD/CR/SPLDRIVE/2026-27/16. Neither says whether one person may apply under both; each says a candidate “can appear for the test only once under this recruitment project”.
Eligibility is checked at joining, not at the exam
SBI’s advertisement is blunt: it “would admit to the test all the candidates applying for the post with the requisite fee” and “shall determine their eligibility only at the time of joining”. A call letter, a Main score or even a name in the final result does not prove eligibility. The documents below are what is checked, and several have date rules of their own.
| Document | Rule in 2026-27 |
|---|---|
| OBC (non-creamy layer) certificate | Government of India format, issued between 01.04.2026 and the date of joining; plus a declaration of non-creamy status as on the last registration date |
| EWS Income & Asset Certificate | For financial year 2025-26, valid for 2026-27, on the Government of India format; to be produced at document verification. SBI: “No request for extension of time … shall be entertained”, and a candidate who cannot produce it will not be considered for appointment |
| SC/ST caste certificate | Government of India format. SBI adds that an SC/ST candidate who has moved to a state where the community is not scheduled “will continue to be deemed as SC/ST” |
| PwBD certificate | Dated on or before the last registration date (31.08.2026) |
| Graduation proof | Date on the mark sheet or provisional certificate — or the university’s certificate of the web-publication date — on or before 31.12.2026 |
| Age-relaxation certificates | At joining; no change of category is allowed after registration |
| Discharge certificate | For candidates already in government, quasi-government, PSU, nationalised bank or financial institution jobs |
SBI advertisement CRPD/CR/2026-27/17, pp.2–3 and section 16.
The CIBIL clause, and its removal
The 2024-25 and 2025-26 advertisements made ineligible anyone who had “defaulted in repayment under any lending arrangement with Banks or NBFCs including credit card dues” and not regularised it by the offer letter; a candidate whose repayment was not yet reflected had to update the CIBIL record or produce lenders’ no-objection certificates by joining, or lose the offer. The 2026-27 advertisement has no such clause — we searched the full text. SBI has not published a reason, and the Bank retains its general right to verify candidates before joining.
Trained SBI apprentices get more than an age relaxation: 2.5% of the maximum Main marks — 5 of 200 — is added to their Main aggregate. In 2026-27 the apprentice must have been engaged on or after 1 January 2022, completed a year of branch experience by the last registration date and hold the NSDC/BFSI-SSC certificate. On a Main where the merit list is decided by a few marks, 5 marks is a meaningful head start.
