Checked 7 October 2026. Vacancies are those of the original CEN 06/2025 and CEN 07/2025 Annexure B (neither Corrigendum-1 changed them). Both notifications say RRB-wise and zone-wise vacancies are provisional and may increase or decrease, and no revised table was found on the common RRB portal on this date. A later CEN would replace all of it.
The railways are filling 8,868 non-technical posts in this cycle, and no candidate competes for all of them. CEN 06/2025 (Graduate) lists 5,810 posts and CEN 07/2025 (Under Graduate) lists 3,058. Both notifications say a candidate may apply to one Railway Recruitment Board only, choosing zones and posts inside that board, so the number that matters to you is the one in your board's row of Annexure B. This page sums that annexure for every one of the 21 RRBs, shows the category split, and divides the official application count (25,89,978 for the Graduate CEN) by each board's posts.
Every row of the tables below adds to the printed board total, and the post and category totals match the printed grand totals; the page was built with that check. The division in the fourth tile is ours.
ProSyllabus is an independent study site. We are not affiliated with Indian Railways, the Railway Board or any Railway Recruitment Board. Every rule and number below is quoted or summarised from their published notices, and the notices control if anything here differs.
The ten posts of the two notifications
The Graduate notification has six posts and requires a degree. The Under Graduate notification has four and requires the 12th with at least 50 per cent marks (the 50 per cent is not insisted on for SC, ST, persons with benchmark disabilities, ex-servicemen or holders of higher qualifications). Pay levels and initial pay are the printed ones; the medical standard is the vision standard Annexure A attaches to each post.
| Post | Notification | Level | Initial pay | Medical | Posts |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor | CEN 06/2025 | 6 | Rs 35,400 | B2 | 161 |
| Station Master | CEN 06/2025 | 6 | Rs 35,400 | A2 | 615 |
| Goods Train Manager | CEN 06/2025 | 5 | Rs 29,200 | A2 | 3,416 |
| Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist | CEN 06/2025 | 5 | Rs 29,200 | C2 | 921 |
| Senior Clerk cum Typist | CEN 06/2025 | 5 | Rs 29,200 | C2 | 638 |
| Traffic Assistant | CEN 06/2025 | 4 | Rs 25,500 | A2 | 59 |
| Commercial cum Ticket Clerk | CEN 07/2025 | 3 | Rs 21,700 | B2 | 2,424 |
| Accounts Clerk cum Typist | CEN 07/2025 | 2 | Rs 19,900 | C2 | 394 |
| Junior Clerk cum Typist | CEN 07/2025 | 2 | Rs 19,900 | C2 | 163 |
| Trains Clerk | CEN 07/2025 | 2 | Rs 19,900 | A3 | 77 |
Two posts dominate. Goods Train Manager is 3,416 of the 5,810 Graduate posts, or 58.8 per cent by our division, and Commercial cum Ticket Clerk is 2,424 of the 3,058 Under Graduate posts, 79.3 per cent. The posts people talk about most, Station Master and Traffic Assistant, are 615 and 59: together 674 of 5,810, or 11.6 per cent. If a page quotes one vacancy figure for "NTPC" without saying which post, it is hiding that spread.

Graduate vacancies by RRB and post
The table is Annexure B of CEN 06/2025 collapsed to one row per board: the zone-level lines of the annexure are added up by post, and a dash means the board has no posts of that kind. The post numbers are the notification's category numbers 1 to 6 (CCTS, SM, GTM, JAA, SCT, TA), which are also the numbers printed in every cut-off PDF.

Four boards carry more than half of the Graduate cycle: Bilaspur 864, Kolkata 685, Ranchi 651 and Mumbai 596 sum to 2,796, which is 48.1 per cent; adding Malda's 522 takes five boards to 3,318, or 57.1 per cent. At the other end Siliguri and Muzaffarpur have 21 posts each, Patna 23 and Jammu-Srinagar 32. Bilaspur's 812 Goods Train Manager posts (800 of them in South East Central Railway) and Ranchi's 585 are single-post stories: remove them and those boards shrink to a fraction.
Board totals as printed in Annexure B of CEN 06/2025; they add to 5,810.
Under Graduate vacancies by RRB and post
The Under Graduate table uses the four categories of CEN 07/2025: CTC (Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Level 3), ACT (Accounts Clerk cum Typist), JCT (Junior Clerk cum Typist) and TC (Trains Clerk), the last three at Level 2. Here the weight is even more concentrated: Kolkata 499, Mumbai 494 and Prayagraj 303 hold 1,296 of 3,058, or 42.4 per cent.

RRB explorer: vacancies and competition in the board you pick
Pick a Railway Recruitment Board. The tool lists its Graduate and Under Graduate posts as printed in Annexure B of the two notifications, and for the Graduate cycle divides the board's application count by its posts. You can apply to one RRB only, so this is the pool you actually sit in.
Posts are the printed, provisional Annexure B figures. Applications are the tentative count of the 4 August 2026 notice for CEN 06/2025 only; no equivalent count was found for CEN 07/2025. Applications per post is our division and says how crowded a board is, not who will be selected.
Category-wise posts
Both annexures print unreserved (UR), SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and EWS posts for every row. The shares below are our division of the printed grand totals. Persons with benchmark disabilities and ex-servicemen are horizontal reservations inside these category numbers, so their posts are not added on top.
| Category | Graduate posts | Share (ours) | UG posts | UG share (ours) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 2,321 | 39.9% | 1,280 | 41.9% |
| SC | 922 | 15.9% | 461 | 15.1% |
| ST | 457 | 7.9% | 264 | 8.6% |
| OBC-NCL | 1,508 | 26.0% | 773 | 25.3% |
| EWS | 602 | 10.4% | 280 | 9.2% |
| Total | 5,810 | 100% | 3,058 | 100% |
Graduate posts of the eight largest boards by category, from Annexure B of CEN 06/2025. Patna is not shown because it has no UR or OBC posts at all.
The printed totals also carry the disability and ex-serviceman columns. For the Graduate cycle the grand-total row shows 580 posts for ex-servicemen and, among persons with benchmark disabilities, 40 for visual impairment, 28 for hearing impairment, 35 for locomotor disability, 11 for multiple disabilities and none for "other" disabilities, with no backlog posts. For the Under Graduate cycle the same row shows 303 ex-servicemen posts and 14, 62, 47 and 40 for the visual, hearing, locomotor and multiple categories, again with no backlog. Patna's Graduate row is the unusual one: its 23 posts are 10 SC, 12 ST and 1 EWS, with nothing for UR or OBC.
Competition: applications per post, board by board
The 4 August 2026 notice gives the number of applications each RRB received for CEN 06/2025, split by community, as a tentative figure: 25,89,978 in all. It states that because the selection is "mixed" it cannot give post-wise counts, so the division below is applications to a board against all of that board's Graduate posts. It is a crowding index. Not everyone who applies appears, and the notice counts applications, not candidates who sat the test.
| RRB | Applications (notice) | Posts (Annexure B) | Applications per post (ours) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prayagraj | 1,41,761 | 110 | 1,289 |

| Patna | 5,024 | 23 | 218 |
| All 21 RRBs | 25,89,978 | 5,810 | 446 |
Our division of the 04.08.2026 application notice by Annexure B posts. Prayagraj, Guwahati, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad exceed the all-India average by a wide margin; Patna, Malda and Muzaffarpur sit well below it.
Where other pages get this wrong
There is no single RRB NTPC vacancy number to compete for: you apply to one board, and the crowding there ranges from about 218 to about 1,289 applications per post.
Commonly published instead: RRB NTPC has 5,810 vacancies (or 8,868 including undergraduate), as though one national merit list filled them.
The pooled figure is real but it is not your odds. Prayagraj received 141,761 applications for 110 Graduate posts, about 1,289 each; Bilaspur received 281,878 for 864, about 326; Patna 5,024 for 23, about 218. Each board shortlists and ranks its own candidates, so the board and the post inside it are what you can actually weigh.
The community split of the applications is in the same notice. Nationally 754,445 came from UR candidates, 614,220 from SC, 212,593 from ST, 829,116 from OBC-NCL and 179,604 from EWS; set against the category posts of Annexure B, our division gives about 325 applications per UR post, 666 per SC post, 465 per ST post, 550 per OBC post and 298 per EWS post. Treat that with care: UR posts are open to candidates of every category on merit, so the true pool for a UR post is larger than the UR column, and a candidate in a reserved category is considered against that category's posts in the later stages of this recruitment.
Same board, different railway: the zone lines
Annexure B breaks each board into railway zones and production units, and a post is filled for a particular zone. Most of the weight sits in a few lines. These are the zone lines behind the biggest posts, read from the annexure pages (our reading of the printed tables; every board row they sit in adds up to its printed total).
| Post | Zone lines (printed) | Notification |
|---|---|---|
| Goods Train Manager, Bilaspur RRB | South East Central Railway 800; Central Railway 12 | CEN 06/2025 |
| Goods Train Manager, Ranchi RRB | East Central Railway 575; South Eastern Railway 10 | CEN 06/2025 |
| Goods Train Manager, Malda RRB | Eastern Railway 446; South Eastern Railway 15 | CEN 06/2025 |
| Goods Train Manager, Bhopal RRB | West Central Railway 291; Western Railway 46 | CEN 06/2025 |
| Goods Train Manager, Mumbai RRB | Western Railway 220; Central Railway 73; South Central Railway 17 | CEN 06/2025 |
| Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Kolkata RRB | Eastern Railway 289; South Eastern Railway 55; Metro 10 | CEN 07/2025 |
| Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Prayagraj RRB | Northern Railway 259; North Central Railway 34 | CEN 07/2025 |
| Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Mumbai RRB | Western Railway 215; Central Railway 121; South Central Railway 25 | CEN 07/2025 |
| Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, Secunderabad RRB | South Central Railway 251 | CEN 07/2025 |
The cut-off PDFs of the second stage carry this zone too: a Station Master line is printed as "2wcr" or "2ser", the category number followed by the zone. That is why two candidates in one board can face different second-stage cut-offs for the same post. The cut-off guide in this series lists those lines board by board.
What the tables do not tell you
Four limits are worth stating plainly. First, both notifications call the vacancies provisional and say they can increase or decrease with the requirement of the railway administration, so a revised table may follow. Second, the Graduate application count is marked tentative and is not post-wise. Third, we found no application count for CEN 07/2025, so no crowding index is printed for the Under Graduate posts; saying so is better than borrowing the Graduate figure. Fourth, nothing here is a forecast of cut-offs: the 15-times shortlisting rule for the second stage (explained in the pattern guide) is what turns posts into a cut-off, and it works per board and per community.
If you are choosing a board, use the table for what it can answer. A board with many posts of your post type, like Bilaspur or Ranchi for Goods Train Manager, gives a large second-stage list and usually a lower normalised cut-off; a board with a handful of posts gives a small list and can have a high one. The cut-off guide tests that on the published numbers rather than assuming it.
How many vacancies are there in RRB NTPC in this cycle?
The two live notifications together list 8,868 posts: 5,810 in CEN 06/2025 (Graduate) and 3,058 in CEN 07/2025 (Under Graduate). Both are provisional and may increase or decrease.
Which RRB has the most NTPC Graduate vacancies?
Bilaspur, with 864 posts (812 of them Goods Train Manager), then Kolkata 685, Ranchi 651, Mumbai 596 and Malda 522. Annexure B of CEN 06/2025 is the source.
Which post has the most vacancies?
Goods Train Manager among the Graduate posts (3,416 of 5,810) and Commercial cum Ticket Clerk among the Under Graduate posts (2,424 of 3,058).
Can I apply to more than one RRB?
No. Within one notification (CEN 06/2025 or CEN 07/2025) a candidate may submit only one application and choose only one RRB; each notification says multiple applications, to different RRBs or the same one, lead to rejection of all of them and debarment from future RRB examinations. Choose the board with care.
How many applications did NTPC Graduate receive?
The tentative RRB notice of 4 August 2026 counts 25,89,978 applications for CEN 06/2025, about 446 for each of the 5,810 posts by our division. The count is by RRB and community, not by post.
Is there an application count for the Under Graduate NTPC?
We did not find one on the common RRB portal as of 7 October 2026, so we do not print a ratio for CEN 07/2025.
Do the category posts include posts for persons with disabilities?
Yes. Disability and ex-serviceman posts are horizontal reservations inside the category columns, so they are not added to the totals. The Graduate grand total shows 580 ex-servicemen posts; the Under Graduate one shows 303.
