Checked 29 September 2026. The pattern is from the archived Ind-SAT 2020, PRAGATII 2021 and PRAGATII 2022 pages and the official PG Mock Test-1. It is historical: no sitting has been held since 31 July 2022, so any future test could use a different pattern.
PRAGATII — first run as Ind-SAT in 2020 — was a 90-minute online aptitude test in English: 90 multiple-choice questions, 40 on Verbal ability, 25 on Quantitative aptitude and 25 on Logical reasoning, one mark each and no marks taken off for a wrong answer. The pattern did not change across its three sittings in 2020, 2021 and 2022. This guide sets out the pattern exactly as the official pages printed it, lists every topic they named, and then goes through the one official practice paper still available — the PRAGATII PG Mock Test-1 — to show what the questions actually looked like by type and count. We describe the mock; we do not reproduce its questions.
Status on 29 September 2026
No PRAGATII (Ind-SAT) has been held since 31 July 2022, and no official page has announced another. The official PRAGATII exam page now redirects to the Study in India home page. Nothing in this guide describes a 2026 sitting; where we give current information, it is about the routes that still exist.

The official pattern
| Section | Questions | Marks | Our suggested time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verbal (Verbal Reasoning) | 40 | 40 | 40 minutes |
| Quant (Quantitative Aptitude) | 25 | 25 | 25 minutes |
| Logical (Logical Reasoning) | 25 | 25 | 25 minutes |
| Total | 90 | 90 | 90 minutes |
The questions and marks are official and identical on the 2020, 2021 and 2022 pages. The time column is ours: the pages set one 90-minute limit for the whole paper and published no section timings, so one minute per question is simply the even split. In practice most candidates will want to bank time on the shorter vocabulary items and spend it on reading passages and arrangements.
| Rule | What the official pages said |
|---|---|
| Mode | Online proctored (2020, 2021); "Conducted Online" (2022), taken from home |
| Duration | 90 minutes |
| Question type | Objective, multiple choice; the official mock has 4 options per question |
| Language | English |
| Marking | Correct 1; wrong 0; unattempted 0 |
| Calculator | 2020, Ind-SAT page as archived on 18 Jun 2020: calculator prohibited, a single sheet for rough work. Same page as archived in Apr 2021, after the 22 Jul 2020 sitting: calculator prohibited, "rough papers are allowed and an onscreen calculator will be available". 2021 and 2022: physical calculator prohibited, on-screen calculator and on-screen notepad provided |
| Separate UG and PG papers | 2020 ran separate shifts for UG and PG applicants; 2022 offered separate UG and PG sample papers |
The calculator row is worth reading twice. Several pages online say PRAGATII banned calculators outright. That matches the Ind-SAT page as it stood in June 2020, which also allowed a single sheet for rough work. But a later version of the same page, captured in April 2021 and already reporting the 22 July 2020 sitting, said rough papers were allowed and an on-screen calculator would be available; the 2021 and 2022 pages said the same about the on-screen calculator. The archive does not show which version applied on 22 July 2020, so we print both. Every version banned a physical calculator or any device.
Every topic the official pages named
| Section | Topics named on the 2020, 2021 and 2022 pages |
|---|---|
| Verbal Reasoning (11 topics, our count) | Reading comprehension; fill in the blanks; grammar; paragraph completion and inference; parajumbles; analogies; antonyms; synonyms; one-word substitution; sentence correction; idioms and phrases |
| Quantitative Aptitude (14 topics, our count) | Algebra; averages; linear and quadratic equations; geometry; HCF and LCM; number system; partnership; percentages; arithmetic and geometric progressions; profit and loss; ratio and proportion; time-speed-distance; work and time; interest |
| Logical Reasoning (9 topics, our count) | Seating arrangements; blood relations; direction sense; series and sequencing; syllogism; Venn diagrams; rankings; puzzles; coding and decoding |
That is 11 verbal topics, 14 quantitative topics and 9 reasoning topics — our count of the official lists. Two things are not on them: there is no writing or essay section of any kind, and there is no data-interpretation section (tables, charts or caselets). Seating arrangement, on the other hand, is on the official reasoning list, and the official mock uses a circular seating set.
Inside the official PRAGATII PG Mock Test-1
The Study in India site published this mock with its answer key; a copy survives in the Internet Archive and is listed in the sources. It is the only official sample paper we could recover — the UG mock link no longer resolves. It follows the 40/25/25 pattern exactly. The breakdown below is our count of its 90 questions by type.
| Section | Question type in the mock | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| Verbal | Reading comprehension (2 passages, 5 questions each) | 10 |
| Verbal | Idioms and phrases | 5 |
| Verbal | Error spotting (sentence correction) | 5 |
| Verbal | Synonyms | 5 |
| Verbal | Antonyms | 5 |
| Verbal | One-word substitution | 5 |
| Verbal | Fill in the blank with a preposition | 5 |
| Quant | Arithmetic: partnership 2, time-speed-distance 3, simple interest 2, averages 3, percentages 2, profit 1, proportion 1, work 1 | 15 |
| Quant | Number system: integer pairs, counting, divisors, HCF, LCM, primes (1 each) | 6 |
| Quant | Algebra: one linear and one quadratic equation | 2 |
| Quant | Geometry | 2 |
| Logical | Coding and decoding | 3 |
| Logical | Blood relations | 3 |
| Logical | Circular seating arrangement (one set) | 3 |
| Logical | Puzzle (one set) | 4 |
| Logical | Number and letter series | 3 |
| Logical | Ranking and order | 4 |
| Logical | Venn diagrams | 5 |
From the table above. One mock is one sample: treat the proportions as a picture of the style, not a promise about any future paper.
Three practical readings of the mock. First, the verbal section is mostly short vocabulary and usage items: 30 of its 40 questions are idioms, error spotting, synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitution and prepositions, each answerable in well under a minute if you know it. Second, the quantitative section is school arithmetic rather than advanced mathematics — 15 of 25 are arithmetic word problems, spanning partnership, percentages, averages, interest, speed, profit, proportion and work. Third, the reasoning section groups questions into sets (a seating set of 3, a puzzle of 4), so one misread arrangement can cost several marks at once.
| Correct option position | Questions in the mock |
|---|---|
| Option 1 | 21 |
| Option 2 | 28 |
| Option 3 | 19 |
| Option 4 | 22 |
Our count of the answer key. The spread is close to even, so there is no position to "guess towards"; the useful point is simply that with no negative marking, a guess on any option is worth about a quarter of a mark on average, and a blank is worth nothing.
Score estimator: why you should never leave a PRAGATII question blank
Enter how many questions per section you would work out properly and how often you get those right. The estimator assumes every remaining question is a blind guess among four options, as in the official PG mock — worth one chance in four of a mark, and nothing lost when wrong, because PRAGATII had no negative marking.
Our arithmetic, not an official score model. PRAGATII never published cut-offs, so no score here predicts a scholarship.
The online set-up the official pages required
| Requirement | 2020 (Ind-SAT) | 2021 and 2022 (PRAGATII) |
|---|---|---|
| Test software | Mettl Secure Browser | NTA remote-proctored test with Safe Exam Browser |
| Computer | Laptop or desktop, Windows | Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10; 2 GB RAM; 2-core processor |
| Browser and software | Chrome or Firefox | Latest Chrome; .Net 4.5.2 or above |
| Internet | Above 500 kbps | 1 Mbps or more, continuous |
| Webcam | Required for proctoring | At least 640x480 at 15 fps |
| Login | SII ID number followed by @edcil.com | Credentials sent by email with the admit card |
Everything in this table is from the archived official pages. It matters for one reason if PRAGATII or a similar test ever returns: remote-proctored tests are lost more often to a failed webcam, a phone on the desk or a dropped connection than to the questions themselves, and each year's page carried a mock test precisely so candidates could find those problems early.
Claims about the pattern you may still see
Where other pages get this wrong
PRAGATII never had a writing section, and no official past papers were released.
Commonly published instead: a "maths, reading and writing" structure, a changed pattern with fewer questions, "official 2024 previous-year papers with solutions", or data-interpretation caselets.
The official pages list only Verbal, Quantitative and Logical sections of 40, 25 and 25 questions, unchanged from 2020 to 2022. The only official practice material was mock tests and sample papers; there was no 2024 sitting, so there can be no 2024 paper. Data interpretation is not on the official topic lists.
Practise it, don't just read it
The quizzes cover several of the topics the official mock leaned on — percentages, averages, time-speed-distance and interest in Quant; coding, blood relations and syllogisms in Logical; sentence correction and reading inference in Verbal.
The ProSyllabus PRAGATII library has ten topic quizzes across the three old sections: Verbal (sentence correction, reading-comprehension inference), Quantitative (percentages, averages, time-speed-distance, simple and compound interest, number series) and Logical (syllogisms, coding-decoding, blood relations).
How many questions were in PRAGATII?
Ninety multiple-choice questions: 40 Verbal, 25 Quantitative and 25 Logical Reasoning, in 90 minutes.
Did PRAGATII have negative marking?
No. The official pages gave one mark for a correct answer and zero for a wrong or unattempted one, so guessing never cost marks.
Was a calculator allowed in PRAGATII?
No physical calculator in any year. The 2021 and 2022 pages said an on-screen calculator and notepad would be provided. For 2020 the Ind-SAT page changed: in June 2020 it banned calculators and allowed a single rough sheet; a later version said rough papers were allowed and an on-screen calculator would be available.
Was PRAGATII the same for UG and PG applicants?
The pattern was the same, but the 2020 test ran separate UG and PG shifts and the 2022 page offered separate UG and PG sample papers.
Is seating arrangement in the PRAGATII syllabus?
Yes. Seating arrangements are the first item on the official Logical Reasoning list, and the official PG mock includes a circular seating set.
Are there official PRAGATII previous-year papers?
No. The Study in India site published mock tests and sample papers, not past papers. The PG Mock Test-1 survives in the Internet Archive.
Was there sectional timing?
No sectional time limits were published; the whole paper had a single 90-minute limit.
In which language was PRAGATII set?
English only, according to every official page from 2020 to 2022.
