MDU PG Admission 2027: Expected Dates and the Physical Counselling Process

MDU PG Admission 2027: Expected Dates and the Physical Counselling Process

Checked 25 September 2026. MDU has announced nothing for 2027-28 (checked 25 Sep 2026). Past dates are from its 2025-26 and 2026-27 prospectuses and notices.

As of 25 September 2026, MDU has published nothing for 2027-28. Its last two cycles give a clear shape: the admission notice in late May or June, applications for about three weeks (with an extension both years), tests in mid-July, results a few days later, then four rounds of physical counselling in the departments at Rohtak from late July to mid-August, and department-level rounds for vacant seats into September. This guide sets out both cycles and how counselling works.

2025 (11 Jun → 15 Jul)34 days
2026 (22 May → 13 Jul)52 days

Our arithmetic on MDU's dates.

For 2027 the safe assumption is an application window some time between late May and late June and tests in mid-July — but that is a pattern, not an announcement. Watch MDU's admission-notices page and the Samarth admission portal from May. The single application covers a programme at both Rohtak and MDU-CPAS Gurugram, with your preference chosen on the form.

What changed between 2025 and 2026

Very little, which is useful for planning. The notice came nearly three weeks earlier in 2026 (22 May against 11 June), and the application window was extended both years — to 30 June in 2025 and to 28 June in 2026. Tests moved two days earlier, from 15–19 July to 13–17 July, in the same three daily sittings. The four counselling rounds, the 26 August marksheet deadline and the 30 August cut-off date stayed the same. The rules — 100 questions, 75 minutes, no negative marking, test score only — did not change at all. The one policy change was the Haryana EWS income limit, raised to ₹8 lakh by a notice of 3 July 2026.

From the PG Prospectus 2026-27, p. 6, and the 3 Sep 2026 vacant-seat notice. Between 7 Aug and 11 Sep 2026 individual departments also reopened the portal for single programmes with seats left, such as M.Sc. Chemistry, M.Sc. Mathematics and M.A. Sanskrit — the prospectus lets departments fill vacancies themselves after the 3rd counselling.

Applying, step by step

On the Samarth portal

  • Register and fill one form per programme or programme group; one application covers the programme at both Rohtak and MDU-CPAS Gurugram, with your campus preference on the form.
  • Pay ₹1,600 (₹400 for SC/BC/differently-abled of Haryana); each extra programme or group is ₹400 (₹100).
  • Upload a recent photo carefully — it is matched against you at counselling and reused for your ID card, library, hostel and bus pass.
  • Use the correction window (30 Jun–1 Jul in 2026, extended to 5 Jul by a 3 Jul notice) for errors; the programme cannot be changed after submission.
  • Download the admit card and check the paper, sitting and centre.

From the PG Prospectus 2026-27, pp. 6–7, 43–44, and MDU's notices of 3 and 22 Jul 2026.

Answer keys and objections

The question booklet and answer key for all four booklet codes go up on MDU's website after each test — the M.A. English key, for example, was posted at 3:42 pm on 17 July 2026. Objections go to the Controller of Examinations, by hand or e-mail, within 24 hours; the prospectus says they are normally resolved within 48 hours, and nothing is entertained after the window. In 2026 revised keys were posted on 18–20 July for seven papers, including the MBA, Computer Science and Life Sciences groups. The result followed on 20 July. Check your answers against the key the same evening: after the objection window there is no re-checking.

If your final-year result is late

Final-semester students are admitted provisionally. In 2025 MDU admitted pending-result candidates on an undertaking, cancelled admissions without the result by 26 August and forfeited the fee, then filled those seats by open counselling on 28 August. The 2026 rule was the same date, stated in a notice of 22 July. If your university is slow, ask it for a provisional result or a certified internet result early, and keep the department informed.

How counselling works

StepDetail
Merit listOverall provisional merit list and category-wise lists on the MDU website; no individual letters
ReportingIn person, in the department at MDU Rohtak (also for Gurugram seats): attendance 9:00–11:00 am, counselling from 11:00 am
Life SciencesOne common counselling for all 13 M.Sc. programmes (coordinated by Zoology in 2026)
FeePaid online by the next day; show the receipt; unpaid means the seat is lost
Rounds 1–3Reservation honoured; vacant seats displayed after each round
Round 3 extra10% supernumerary seats for other-state candidates offered on this day (not in BCI/PCI/AICTE/NCTE-regulated programmes)
Round 4"Open counselling after conversion of seats": reserved → Haryana open → all-India
After the 3rd round, and after the cut-offDepartments fill vacancies at their own level — by entrance merit, then non-appeared applicants, then fresh applicants on academic merit; a university-wide fresh-application round follows the cut-off date

From the PG Prospectus 2026-27, pp. 6–8, 49, 89–90, and the 3 Sep 2026 vacant-seat notice. In 2026 MDU also matched photos on the admit card and application against video records at counselling.

Where other pages get this wrong

All MDU PG counselling rounds are physical, in the department at MDU Rohtak.

Commonly published instead: "Four rounds: three online and one physical", "online preference locking" and a "₹600 counselling fee".

The prospectus describes only physical counselling in the departments, with the programme fee paid online after a seat is offered; no counselling fee is listed.

Documents to carry

Originals plus two self-attested sets

  • Matriculation certificate (for age) and the 10+2 certificate and marksheet.
  • Qualifying-degree marksheets, or an internet result certified by your college head (originals by the deadline).
  • Character certificate from your last institution and migration certificate if from another university.
  • Category, income, Haryana Resident and PPP documents where they apply.
  • Gap-year undertaking if needed; two copies of your application form.

The last day for submitting the qualifying-exam marksheet was 26 August in 2026; after it, provisional admissions without proof were cancelled and the seats declared vacant. If your final result is late, keep in touch with the department — and remember that the September vacant-seat round is a real second chance: in 2026 it offered more than a hundred seats in M.Sc. Mathematics (SFS) alone.

The September round

Programme (vacant, 3 Sep 2026)Seats
M.Sc. Mathematics (SFS)116
MBA (MDU-CPAS Gurugram)60
M.A. Sanskrit42
MTTM30
M.Sc. Statistics26
M.Sc. Biochemistry22
M.Sc. Environmental Science / Environmental Biotechnology17 each

From MDU's notice of 3 Sep 2026 (seats "may vary at the time of counselling"). No vacancies were listed for M.Com., M.A. English, M.A. Hindi, M.A. History, LL.B. (Rohtak), M.Sc. Zoology or MBA (IMSAR) — those filled.
