MDU's PG merit rule could not be simpler: your rank is your entrance-test score. Graduation marks decide only whether you are eligible; there is "no weightage of any kind" (only B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed. add sports weightage), and a tie goes to the older candidate. What MDU does not publish is a cut-off — its merit lists show who is called to counselling, not who was finally admitted. This guide uses what it does publish: how many candidates sat each paper against the seats, and, for the lists MDU issues as readable text, the score of the candidate at the position equal to the number of seats.

Candidates are the rows in MDU's provisional result for each paper (the lists run down to scores of 0) — people who sat the test, not registrations. Seats are sanctioned intake in 2026-27, Rohtak and Gurugram together where both use the paper. No official applicant totals are published.

The spread is wide. M.A. English had about five candidates per seat in 2026 and LL.B. about 4.7, while M.Sc. Mathematics had fewer candidates than seats — 95 for 180 — and still had 116 vacant SFS seats in September. The Life Sciences group was close to one candidate per seat across its 13 programmes. For a popular paper a strong score matters; for the less crowded ones, meeting eligibility and turning up to counselling can be most of the battle.

"Score at position = seats" is the marks of the candidate at that place on the overall list — not a closing score, because reservation, the 15% All India Category seats, supernumerary seats and no-shows move the real last admission. How would your score have ranked?
Choose a paper and enter a score out of 100. The tool compares it with the score of the candidate whose merit position equalled the number of seats in that year's official merit list — a rough guide, not a cut-off.

Reading the categories
The 2026 Life Sciences list shows why a General-list figure is not the whole story. Its category lists ranged widely — the Haryana Open General list ran from 73 down to 5, BC-A from 67 to 26, the Haryana EWS list from 76 to 26, the all-India list from 71 to 29. Reserved candidates who score well are counted in the open list first, vacant reserved seats convert after the third counselling, and the 10% supernumerary seats for other states (in programmes not regulated by BCI, PCI, AICTE or NCTE) are offered only to those with at least 40% in the test. The 2026 LL.B. list, by contrast, had 448 Haryana Open General names out of 1,123 — for 46 such seats at each campus (prospectus seat matrix, pp. 34–38).

Where other pages get this wrong
MDU publishes no official cut-offs; the only official figures are the results and merit lists.
Commonly published instead: "Expected cut-offs: M.Sc. Life Sciences General 62–68, SC 28–38" and marks-versus-rank tables.
No MDU document gives such ranges. In the 2026 Life Sciences overall merit list the top score was 76 and the candidate at position 370 (the total seats) had 29.
After the first list
The first merit list is not the last word. Every counselling round has its own list, and seats left by candidates who do not report or do not pay are offered further down. After the third round, vacant reserved seats convert to Haryana Open General and then to all-India candidates, and the fourth round is open counselling on the converted seats. After the cut-off date departments fill what is still vacant: first from those who took the test, then from registered candidates who did not, then from fresh applicants on academic merit. That is why a low score on a paper with few candidates, such as M.Sc. Mathematics, can still end in a seat.
Where other pages get this wrong
MDU publishes a PDF result list with each candidate's marks, and department merit lists; there is no individual scorecard.
Commonly published instead: "Download your MDUCEE scorecard with merit rank and category rank using roll number and date of birth".
No scorecard or rank card appears on MDU's result pages — your position is read from the published merit list.
Setting a target
- Find your paper in the table; if it is crowded (LL.B., M.A. English, Psychology), aim well above the position-equals-seats score.
- Download last year's question booklet and key and score yourself under 75 minutes.
- Remember there is no negative marking — answer every question.
- If your paper had fewer candidates than seats, make sure you meet eligibility and attend every counselling round.

How is the MDU PG merit list prepared?
Purely on the entrance-test score (or GPAT/GATE for M.Pharm./M.Tech.), with no weightage of any kind (except sports weightage for B.P.Ed./M.P.Ed.) and the older candidate preferred on a tie.
What is the MDU LL.B. 3-year cut-off?
MDU publishes none. In the 2026 overall merit list (1,123 candidates, 240 seats) the candidate at position 240 scored 61 and at position 120 scored 67.
Does MDU add graduation marks to the entrance score?
No. Graduation marks only decide eligibility; merit is the test score alone.
How many students appear in the MDU PG entrance?
MDU publishes per-paper results, not totals. In 2026, for example, 1,123 sat the LL.B. 3-year paper and 671 the MBA group paper.
What is a good score in the MDU PG entrance?
It depends on the paper. In 2025 the Computer Science group candidate at position 140 (the seats) scored 50; in 2026 the Life Sciences group candidate at position 370 scored 29.
What is the tie-break rule at MDU?
The candidate senior in age gets preference.
Is there weightage for NCC or sports in MDU PG admission?
No marks weightage — those are supernumerary seats. Only B.P.Ed./M.P.Ed. add sports weightage to the test score.
When is the MDU PG entrance result declared?
On 20 July 2026 and 22 July 2025, a few days after the tests.
