MDU hands every candidate official practice material: the actual question booklet and answer key of every PG paper, posted on its website on the day of the test. Combine two years of those with the syllabus MDU publishes for your paper and you have a complete preparation kit. The test itself rewards speed — 100 questions in 75 minutes, about 45 seconds each — and there is no negative marking, so every question should be answered. This guide turns that into a plan.

Choose your likely exam day and how many hours a week you can study. The planner counts the weeks left from today and splits your total hours across the paper.
The dates are projections for mid-July 2027 — replace them when MDU's schedule is out. Half the time goes to your core subject because most papers test it at undergraduate level; if your paper has no English, reasoning or awareness section, move that share to the core subject and past papers.

Know what your paper covers
The published syllabi are more specific than most candidates realise. The M.Com. paper spreads its 100 questions across twelve subjects: Financial Accounting and Business Management (10 each), then 8 each for Business Regulatory Framework, Company Law, HRM, Business Statistics, Corporate Accounting, Cost Accounting, Income Tax, Business Environment, Accounting for Managers and Financial Management, and Auditing. The Life Sciences paper gives marks unit by unit — Biomolecules 5, Cellular Organisation 7, Developmental Biology 5, Diversity of Microbes 5, Seed Plants 7 and so on — so a candidate from one discipline has to cover the others' basics. The M.Pharm. paper follows the B.Pharm. course: Pharmaceutical Chemistry 30, Pharmaceutics 30, Pharmacology 25, Pharmacognosy 15. LL.M. tests the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, not the old IPC.

Language and level
Most papers come in Hindi and English, so you can read a question in the language you studied in. The Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Pharmacy, Interdisciplinary and Management papers are English only, and the M.A. English, Hindi and Sanskrit papers are in that language. The prospectus sets the level as what a student who has passed the qualifying exam is expected to answer — undergraduate level for a master's paper. Practise in the language of your paper, and learn the English technical terms if your paper is English-only.
Using past booklets well
A routine that works (our suggestion)
- Sit the paper in one go at 75 minutes, at the time of day your sitting is scheduled.
- Mark with MDU's key, and use the revised key where one was posted.
- Sort every wrong or skipped question by syllabus topic; the topics with most errors go into next week's plan.
- Re-sit the same booklet two weeks later without looking at the key.
- Note the speed: if you finish under 60 minutes, spend more time checking; if you run out, do a faster first pass.
Two papers, one week
If you apply for more than one programme, check the timetable first. In 2026 each day had three sittings (10:00, 12:30 and 3:00), and some pairs that students often want together were in the same slot — M.Sc. Mathematics shared the 12:30 sitting on 14 July with M.A. Journalism, while M.A. History and LL.M. shared 3:00 on 15 July. Papers in the same sitting cannot both be taken. Where they are on different days, plan the revision so the second paper does not get the leftover hours.
The last two weeks
Stop adding new topics about ten days out. Use the time for two or three full timed papers, your error log and the short facts that are easy to forget — formulae, definitions, sections of the law, the general-awareness items for MBA and LL.B. The day before, check the admit card for the paper, sitting and campus (Rohtak or Gurugram), and prepare the documents you will need at counselling, because in 2026 the first round came only three days after the result. Keep the evening of the test free to check the answer key: objections close 24 hours after it is posted.
Pacing 75 minutes
At 45 seconds a question, a paper cannot be read slowly. Our suggestion: a first pass of about 50 minutes answering everything you know and marking the rest on the booklet; 20 minutes on the marked ones; and the last five minutes filling every remaining bubble — there is no negative marking, so a blank can only cost you. Shade the OMR as you go, not at the end; transferring 100 answers in the final minutes is how marks are lost.
Mistakes to avoid
- Preparing from an aggregator "pattern" instead of MDU's own syllabus and booklets.
- Leaving blanks — no negative marking means a guess is free.
- Applying with a pending re-appear: you will not be eligible.
- Missing the fee deadline the day after counselling.
- Assuming CAT or CMAT counts for MDU MBA — it does not.
